Guitar Hero III tracks named The latest incarnation of the popular music game gets an initial track listing, tunes by the Rolling Stones, Kiss, and Beastie Boys confirmed. By Emma Boyes, GameSpot UK Posted May 23, 2007 7:25 am PT Hot on the heels of yesterday's announcement of seven more songs for the 1980s-themed Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s, Activision has announced the first batch of songs for Guitar Hero III. The full list for the latest rhythm game is currently as follows: "Paint It Black" by the Rolling Stones "Cherub Rock" by Smashing Pumpkins "Sabotage" by Beastie Boys "The Metal" by Tenacious D "My Name is Jonas" by Weezer "Knights of Cydonia" by Muse "Rock And Roll All Nite" as made famous by Kiss "School's Out" as made famous by Alice Cooper "Slow Ride" as made famous by Fog Hat "Cult of Personality" by Living Colour "Barracuda" as made famous by Heart The company also confirmed that the game would be getting two new controllers--a Gibson Les Paul guitar model for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii consoles, and a Gibson Kramer guitar for the PlayStation 2. Both controllers will be wireless. The new game will also get a host of new features, including a "multiplayer action-inspired battle mode," and authentic rock venues. An expanded online multiplayer mode will allow gamers to compete with other guitar heroes worldwide. RedOctane's head of publishing, Dusty Welch, said that the team had listened to fans' requests for this edition of the game. He commented, "Many of the top bands and songs we've tried to get in the past are now on board, and we've definitely got some giant aces in the hole to say the least." Guitar Hero III is due for release on the PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii this "fall." It will be the first title in the series to be developed by Activision's in-house studio Neversoft--all previous games having been made by Harmonix. |

Holy Shit, Muse.
I think I just wet myself. |
'The Metal
 |
I'm loving Cherub Rock and My Name is Jonas. Cult of Personality is pretty sweet too.
|
That is a pretty goddamned decent list so far. Living Colour
|
FUCKING RIGHT. MUSE
|
They could have picked a much better song that would make use of both the guitar and bass in better ways though.
|
Yeah thinking about it now, Knights of Cydonia is a bad choice, Hysteria would have been better.
|
I like the band selection, for the majority, but I don't like the song selection at all.
I do like Barracuda though. |
I'm assuming the ones that aren't listed as 'made famous by' are actually the original tracks? Cause if so

Love it.

I don't want a shitty rip-off Strat :'(
and they picked a bad KISS song for the game...too easy. DETROIT ROCK CITY. |
That is a pretty swell list so far. Hopefully they don't add a bunch of ridiculous songs that I only play once again.
|
Not a bad list. They could have put a few better songs in there, tho.
Anyone else a little worried about Neversoft doing this instead of Harmonix? |
They better include songs by The Who, Eric Clapton, and Neil Young.

But all Neversoft has to do really is emulate the old games. Besides multiplayer, I'd say the gameplay is about as good as it is going to get. |
Ok, but nothing fantastic leaping out at me there. But im still going to rock out on it no matter what :D

Cult of Personality is the only song off this one that hits me at all...
I hope the rest of the songs announced for it are better than these |
For the record, I think they've been watching Dazed and Confused a little too much lately. RnR All Night, Slow Ride, and School's Out were all in that movie...which hopefully might mean Highway Star by Deep Purple and/or Stranglehold by Nugent (also in the movie).

For instance, GH2 improved on the physical gameplay and general layout of GH2, but they botched the song list a little. |
Pretty pumped about knights of cydonia

I still think it's an odd choice for GH, theres a big non-guitar part during the "NO ONES GOING TO TAKE ME ALIVE" segment. I still think Hysteria, or possibly Stockholm Syndrome would have been better. |
Yeah. If they had used Stockholm Syndrome I would have creamed myself instantly. Hysteria would have been good, but SS is pretty much my favorite Muse song ever.
|
I would've loved Hysteria instead of Cydonia.

My lab partners dad makes the game. I totally passed on Tenacious D's the metal to her. Also Eyes wide open by Chronic Future

Wow, those videos are great. The people are looking better and better all the time. The guitarist in that second video was badass.
