Spiderman 4, 4 of 6 movies?

In Hollywood, it appears today that one of the most reliable things anyone can bet on is that the 'Spider-Man' franchise is a cash cow for Sony and Columbia Pictures, with the studio having the rights, and plans to make a total of six movies, of which this would obviously be the 4th. What is not so sure is what nature this movie, which the studio will definitely make, will take. Director Sam Raimi, star Tobey Maguire and the rest of the cast have been a stable unit, but the word is that Spider-Man 3 sort of ties up a lot of the stories of what can be considered the "first half" or "first trilogy" of 'Spider-Man' movies, and so this fourth movie may very much be a fresh start in some ways. It could be a new start with a new director, certainly, and also with a new Peter Parker, a new Mary Jane, and any number of other variables.

Kane Knight 06-02-2007 07:04 PM

Get the guy who plays Petrelli as Parker!

Rammsteinmad 06-02-2007 07:05 PM

Pretty exciting, but I'm not too thrilled about the idea of new actors. Like them or hate them I've come to accept the cast as who they are. Tobey Maguire IS Peter Parker. Kirsten Dunst IS Mary Jane etc.

KingofOldSchool 06-02-2007 07:16 PM

Yeah like Tobey Maguire has anything better going for him.

I agree - although I'm not sure he can tear himself away from doing Fergie music videos.

Zeeboe 06-02-2007 08:06 PM

If they get a new cast and crew, it will bomb.

Jeritron 06-03-2007 03:20 AM

No, if they take it in a shitty direction it will bomb.

Batman Forever was a similar concept. Perhaps even more of a stray, time will tell. It was a new director, new tone, new mood, and a new Batman/Bruce Wayne. It clung to the same continuity in theory but aside from a few ambiguous references it was basically a new bag.
The only returning cast was Gordon and Alfred.
I bet the same Jameson and Aunt Mae stick around.

It did very well at the box office and was a big deal, and even though it bordered on cartoony and campy, it was pretty good at the time. It was well received and it's success was grand and it was primed for sequels.
Unfortunately, the shitty handling of the next one is what killed the franchise.

New Spidey and a new director, or even a new direction with the franchise isn't gonna kill it. As long as it maintains quality and is worthy of the Spider-Man name, it will live on.
Of course it will eventually get killed, but it's not impossible that they could succeed with a new direction for 1 or all 3 future movies.

HeartBreakMan2k 06-03-2007 07:44 AM

Meh, they could do an older Spidey movie I suppose.

Jon Kano 06-03-2007 08:06 AM

What as in where x amount of years have passed since 3? Yeah that could work.

HeartBreakMan2k 06-03-2007 08:13 AM

Yeah, I mean... that'd work especially if they're wanting to lead into the Sinister Six where the villians have had time to group up.

Rammsteinmad 06-03-2007 09:10 AM

That'd actually be pretty cool.

I suppose if they left it a few years they could get someone else to play an older Peter Parker. But the guy that played Jameson should stay, he's awesome.

Kane Knight 06-03-2007 09:55 AM

Jameson's old enough that he doesn't need to change.

Mr Regal 06-03-2007 10:39 AM

I couldn't care less if the cast changed. As long as the new actors are capable.

Kane Knight 06-03-2007 10:45 AM

I don't even get the big deal about a cast change. Maguire was pretty lame, even in the role of an insecure nerd with super powers. Parker's supposed to be a sympathetic character. Tobey makes me want to help the bad guys win. I won't even go into MJ, because there's too much to say about her character.

Zeeboe 06-03-2007 12:07 PM

An older Spiderman huh...I really don't think that would work. In order for that to work, they'd have to wait ten years....and then the kids who are into Spiderman right now would appreciate it more.

For example, it would have been a dream come true if in 2004 they did the Frank Miller Batman story instead of Batman Begins...and I would have preferred Michael Keaton return to play an older Batman.

But I doubt much money would have been made. But I think my generation would have really enjoyed it. And who knows, it would have been a good chance to introduce kids today to the first two Batman movies with Michael Keaton and advertisers could have told him that the guy who directed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory directed those as well. Those films aren't dated in my opinion and kids today would still love em'.

But enough Batman, back to Spiderman.

Personally, I think they should get the original cast to do it or not do it all. I'm sure the advertisers would be able to sucker the people in but will they like the product? Not likely. I know thousands and thousands of people went to see Batman Forever when it came out but I didn't know anyone back then or now that actually liked it. Jim Carrey was the only good thing about it.

This is one of the stupidest posts i have ever read. And that is really saying something.

Are you in an institute?

James Cameron wanted to use Michael Bein as an older Spider-Man. Too bad he's TOO old now.

Zeeboe 06-04-2007 07:51 AM

You don't know what I'm talking about and you guys have the nerve to insult my intelligence? Maybe it's because it's you're too stupid. Well, I'll sum it all up for you in idiot terms so you can get it:

A movie about an older Spiderman would suck and bomb. Young kids don't wanna see an old geezer as Spiderman. They'd wonder what happened to Maguire and who the old man was dressed up as Spiderman. If a film about an old Spiderman were to happen anytime soon, why not e-mail the WWE and suggest that they bring Hulk Hogan back and let him have another title run while we're at it? Now if Hollywood waited ten years for the kids of today to grow up, then they might appreciate an older Spiderman just like I would have enjoyed a movie about an older Batman three years ago with Michael Keaton as the lead because I grew up on the Tim Burton Batman movies.

But the fact of the matter is, even if a new young actor played Spiderman, a new Spiderman movie with a new cast and crew would suck and you're an idiot if you think otherwise. It's a waste of time and money. Why not use that money and energy to donate to a charity instead of making a crappy movie no one is going to like?

Mark my words. It will suck and then it will bomb and I will be sure to remind you all when it happens.

The only reason why they're making new Spiderman movies is because the others brought in money and as long as something brings money in, they're gonna keep shipping them out. But making a new movie with a new cast is almost like the studio's way of trying to kill off the series once and for all because they know a new cast and crew will ruin the series. Part IV will come out and blow ass and parts V and VI will most likely go straight to DVD...but as long as the studio gets their money, that's all they care about and they already made millions from the character so I doubt they care anymore.

Personally, I think Spiderman is over-rated anyway. Batman is way cooler. ;)

Bring on the red, bitches.

Kane Knight 06-04-2007 08:59 AM

We know what you're talking about. You're still stupid.

Yeah, we're talking about a 90 year old Spider-Man. And who uses Geezer anymore? Are you 50?

Quote:

Yes, because people are so horrendously stupid they couldn't figure out that a different actor can play the same role. And putting something as simple as "Five Years Later..." At the beginning would certainly be incomprehensable to them.

Forgive me if I lack faith in your word that it'll bomb simply because of a different cast.

It's amazing how ebullient people tend to get over the prospect of failure.

Well, you certainly would know more about filmmaking than the guys making it, after all.

And no, it's not "almost like."

But...But you just said that they would continue to release them as long as they made money! Hell, you also just said that they don't care about the character! Why, then, would they even release a fifth after the fourth bombed?

You didn't think this through very much, did you?

Zeeboe 06-04-2007 11:57 AM

I thought there was a contract and three new movies had to made?

Oh. My God.

You have no right to question anyone's intelligence. Ever.

This is so stupid it goes beyond simply "not knowing any better" and right into "common sense should have sent up a red flag and strangled you before you could say something that patently idiotic."

Mr Regal 06-04-2007 04:37 PM

I have no one on Ignore. After this thread Venis, you are close.

I was actually going to comment but it hurt me trying to get my head around your reasoning. I cannot, no matter how hard i try, stoop to those levels of stupidity. I just can't....

And for fucks sake please stop talking about YOUR generation. Jesus:mad:

Jeritron 06-04-2007 04:47 PM

wow

Jeritron 06-04-2007 04:47 PM

to Val Venis that is. Just fuckin wow. Did you eat a lot of paintchips as a kid?

Kane Knight 06-04-2007 04:54 PM

Needless to say, I think the odds of another Spider-Man movie bombing are about ass good as my odds of becoming a covergirl for Playboy.

I think the odds of one failing and them making another one anyway are the odds of Mr Regal's nipples spontaneously producing gold.

Eat them, no.

He tried to use them as leverage to get the crayons out of his nose and ears.

In the end, this debate and any debates I have with you guys....I will always win. ALWAYS. Wanna know why? Read on.

It's like I've said before fellas, look at your post counts...then look at mine....

I win by default. :).....I will ALWAYS win by default, and in society that actually exists outside of your homes, I will always be better and superior to all of you.

So stop trying...cause debates among grown men on internet message boards about Spiderman and pro wrestling don't mean a thing in the real world and those things should only be discussed if one is looking to pass the time...and in many of your cases...you're all clearly bored A LOT. The fact that you all care so deeply about those topics and can talk hours and hours about em' just prove what losers you all are.

But none of this stuff you're all debating about and insulting me about don't mean a thing in the non-internet world. All that matters in life is money and sex and only a moron would disagree. And boys, let me tell ya something...I've had more pussy action then all of you comic book loving, "jerking off to pictures Mary Jane, obsessing over a fake sport called rasslin' and spends all day posting on an internet message board chatting with other nerds" virgins combined.

I win. You all lose. Always and forever.

The end.

Fignuts 06-04-2007 06:32 PM

Venis, spider-man has been portrayed as older in the comics for over a decade.

And fyi, making assumptions about people's lives outside the internet based on their post count is kind of ridiculous.

Blitz 06-04-2007 06:52 PM

Mr. Zeeboe, you are trying entirely too hard here.

Mr Regal 06-04-2007 06:57 PM

You have officially become the stupidest person on these boards Venis. That is something to be very, very ashamed of.

Fignuts 06-04-2007 07:01 PM

Well, to be fair, he's probably right on the money about Kane Knight.

YOUR Hero 06-04-2007 08:39 PM

     OMG lol is this real?

See I read that, but the fact is people who DO have these dicussions are people who know what they are talking about. And even though some more than others, who cares, were talkin about ideas and shit that do mean something to people who wanna talk movies, your the fucking idiot making out you are something way beyond us, yet here you are wasting time like a prick.

But the main reason why I found that funny was where you are saying the most important things are money and sex, and then I look at your name and custom title lol what kind of fuck up are you lol

Jon Kano 06-04-2007 08:49 PM

Or is this another sock/joke thing I have missed out on?

YOUR Hero 06-04-2007 09:01 PM

What kind of a spazz out rating would you give that, Kano?
