What rock/alternativ bands from 90's and today would you recommend as radio friendly?

Even the most obscure of the bunch you can think of.

Crossrine 06-06-2007 10:39 PM

NIRVANA end of story

Kane Knight 06-06-2007 11:50 PM

Do you mean lyrical content wise (no swearing etc) or stuff that could appeal to a mass audience?

Everything that got played on the radio back then, perhaps? Despite some of it not being quite suitable for most radio stations, there was certainly a nice opening of the doors for music that was not so "safe" and "friendly" sounding as alot of the tripe was back in the 80's.

Bad Company 06-07-2007 08:14 PM

ah, just look through the Triple J back albums and you'll see plenty of stuff.

FakeLaser 06-07-2007 09:58 PM

Xiu Xiu
The Locust

Ok so he had one or two (Heart shaped box and Moist Vagina) but there was plenty other awesome songs. "Come as you are" was a really good song along with others such as "Dumb"

The Naitch 06-07-2007 10:48 PM

STP

The Naitch 06-07-2007 10:48 PM

I love Velvet Revolver right now. Probably my favorite band right now

Stone Temple Pilots have some radio friendly tracks.

You could pass some Pearl Jam as radio friendly (Daughter, Low Light, In Hiding, etc.)

Zen v.W.o. 06-09-2007 02:29 PM

The Cranberries.

D Mac 06-09-2007 02:35 PM

Soundgarden

D Mac 06-09-2007 02:35 PM

Alice in Chains

ron the dial 06-09-2007 03:29 PM

Smashing Pumpkins

RP 06-09-2007 03:43 PM

Green Day for sure. The Dookie album actually became dookie after about the millionth time i heard the songs on the radio.

The Genius 06-09-2007 05:16 PM

weezer, silverchair, deftones, live, bush, filter,

Zen v.W.o. 06-09-2007 06:46 PM

Tool.

el fregadero 06-09-2007 08:34 PM

Incubus
A Perfect Circle
LINKIN PARK

Tool, not so much, seeing as most of their songs are over 6 minutes long and usually release one or two singles per album.

Zen v.W.o. 06-09-2007 11:56 PM

I didnt realize APC were a 90's band. Linkin Park either.

Tools entire "Undertow" album has songs mostly within 4-5 minutes or so length wise.

But they didnt really hit the mainstream in such a big way back then.

el fregadero 06-10-2007 02:02 AM

Title says "90's and today" :o

Zen v.W.o. 06-10-2007 03:30 AM

Well fuck me in the ass....it does. I see 90's and nothing else matters usually.
Maybe I am stuck in that timeframe. Good one to be stuck in.

I thought Hybrid Theory was like 1999 or so, anyway.

Reavant 06-10-2007 03:13 PM

Staind
Audioslave

No I think it was made in 2001 (It was best selling album of 2001)

I loved 2001. Not because of Linkin Park as a band, but Linkin Park as the music.

Actually, it's listed as 2000 on every discography I checked (Both of them) So we're both wrong.

Which makes sense. My bandmates were actually playing In the End at one point, when I walked into rehearsals, and this was the winter before my 21st Birthday.

The song sounds weird with no bass, by the way.

Just John 06-11-2007 10:46 AM

Yeah, odd because its not exactly a song well known for the bass in it.

Kane Knight 06-11-2007 10:54 AM

Naw, and there really isn't a lot interesting in the bass, but without the bottom, the sound is funky.

Could have also been that they were playing it in E, not Drop Cb.

St. Jimmy 06-11-2007 01:09 PM

For today, didn't see that part.

WELL THAN GWAR, ObVIoUSLY.

Skippord 06-11-2007 01:25 PM

Not gonna lie here I would be much happier if I heard GWAR on the radio more often

Vastardikai 06-12-2007 02:35 AM

Hum
At the Drive In (seeing as how many of the bands today are trying to BE them).
