Tuesday, May 22, 2007

ROH's first pay-per-view, "Respect Is Earned," will now air this July and August. Here is the latest scheduling info:

DISH: The premiere date is Sunday, July 1st. The time will be determined. DISH plans at least 10 replays over the month of July and there is a possibility for even more. "Respect Is Earned" could also be an all day DISH PPV Ticket, meaning it is available to order 24 hours a day.

TVN: "Respect Is Earned" will premiere on Sunday, July 8th at 8pm. There will be replays throughout July and Video On Demand (VOD) the entire month of August.

iN DEMAND: ROH's first PPV will air on Friday, July 20th at 8pm. There will be PPV replays throughout July and August. VOD will be available in early August and run until the end of the month. This means you can order "Respect Is Earned" anytime you want once it goes on VOD.

"Each partner is licensed to carry the event beginning July 1," Ken Gelman of G-Funk Sports & Entertainment said, "and run it through July and August, until the next one is available in September. Due to each partner's PPV and VOD schedules, it is their decision when and how often to schedule our events in these given windows. The same will hold true for future events. Like this note, as soon as we receive scheduling confirmation from our partners for future events, we will inform our fans."

Look for a list of cable affiliates for iN DEMAND and TVN soon on ROHwrestling.com.

My cable system is getting it, but it's InDemand and I can't see it 'til the 20th.

What Would Kevin Do? 07-02-2007 02:53 AM

Yeah, I'm in that boat too :(

blake639raw 07-02-2007 02:55 AM

What's the word on Time Warner Cable? I have IN Demand I believe. Is it coming on the 20th?

What Would Kevin Do? 07-02-2007 03:32 AM

Yep. If you have In Demand, it starts showing on the 20th... I think I saw an In Demand schedule for it. Let me hunt it down.

Xero 07-02-2007 11:18 AM

Thought I read it was $15...

Either way, I'm going to order it when it's available and it will be my first full ROH show (I have seen a few matches obviously). Basically it's going to determine if they're worth a shit to follow for me.

The Naitch 07-02-2007 12:34 PM

ITS MAKE OR BREAK FOR ROH TO ME DAMMIT

Mooияakeя™ 07-02-2007 12:44 PM

OK, we can't get it in England, technically it wouldn't be wrong to watch it on the interwebz (if ur gonna get legal on my buttocks!)

Nah, please. I'd love to see it if anyone knows a feed. *BEGS*

IC Champion 07-02-2007 12:53 PM

Who does ROH even have on their roster any more?

Mr. Pierre 07-02-2007 01:14 PM

This PPV features Morishima, Nigel, Roderick Strong, Delirious, Briscoes, Claudio Castagnoli, Matt Sydal, BJ Whitmer, and a little bit of Steen and Generico. I might be forgetting a few names in there.

IC Champion 07-02-2007 01:17 PM

BOOOO
I want Homicide

Mr. Pierre 07-02-2007 01:19 PM

He came out for the live crowd and did a goodbye speech..but since TNA pulled their talent from ROH PPV, it won't be aired

Mooияakeя™ 07-02-2007 01:36 PM

Well, I like Nigel McGuiness. He's there.

Ummm... ok.. how fucking stupid is RoH's site? NO ROSTER? wtf.

I was there live!

RGWhat316 07-02-2007 05:45 PM

I just watched it last night with a couple people. One buddy of mine has Dish, so he invited us over to see it. Definitely a solid show, and a good introduction to people that have never seen ROH before.

That's what the media section's for. Instead of a static roster page, you can find out who is currently on the roster and actually see them in action.

Innovator 07-02-2007 05:59 PM

Speaking of the roster, Aries and Chris Hero both have newly signed ROH contracts.

Jordan 07-02-2007 06:37 PM

I am very happy about that, very good for ROH.

Mr. Nerfect 07-03-2007 07:55 AM

Ring of Honor actually has a damn good roster at the moment, if you ask me. Bryan Danielson, Austin Aries, Takeshi Morishima, Nigel McGuinness, The Briscoes, Kevin Steen, El Generico, Brent Albright, Delirious, Roderick Strong, Rocky Romero, Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Hero are all damn fantastic. If Matt Sydal doesn't go to TNA, he could be included in that list as well. That's not even touching the guys ROH gets from overseas like KENTA and Naomichi Marafuji.

I've heard the PPV was really good. A review I read put it only behind WrestleMania and Backlash as the best PPV of the year, but they did compliment the wrestling as being better. Considering this was ROH's first outing, and it wasn't even what you'd consider to be them at maximum capacity (There weren't any big blow-offs or anything).

I'm really glad Ring of Honor got this deal. I hope that they really deliver on PPV, get the buys they need to take their company even further, and maybe have them start airing PPVs a week after they tape them, and maybe do one every month eventually.

ROH is arguably the best promotion in the world for ring work. I just hope they continue to go up.

What Would Kevin Do? 07-03-2007 08:09 AM

Don't forget about Davey Richards, Jimmy Jacobs (when he's healed up), Matt Cross, the sporadic Dragon Gate guys, the sporadic Chikara guys now, etc. Outside of the students, there aren't any real weak spots on their roster. I'm not a big fan of BJ Whitmer or Adam Pierce, but they aren't bad by any means. I love Jack Evans, although some people think he's way too spotty.

What Would Kevin Do? 07-03-2007 08:09 AM

Also, in an interesting note, apparently the ROH contracts have health coverage in them. Way to man up and take care of the talent.

Mr. JL 07-03-2007 08:29 AM

Whats with Claudio Castagnoli? I was under the assumtion that he recieved and accepted a WWE developmental deal?

What Would Kevin Do? 07-03-2007 08:42 AM

At the last minute, WWE fucked him over and pulled the contract. Essentially, he was released before he was fully signed.

It sucked for him, because he dropped all his ROH/Chikara bookings, and cancelled a tour he was suppose to do in Japan for the E. Then they go back on the deal.

The Fugitive 07-03-2007 08:48 AM

And despite what was reported, it wasn't because of visa or green card issues. He wouldn't have been able to work in ROH, CHIKARA or any other promotion if he didn't have either.

What Would Kevin Do? 07-03-2007 08:51 AM

I would like to add that Claudio is the man.

How can he be released when he didn't sign? And they didn't fuck him over. They offered him a deal and then canceled it. Things like this happen in the real world. And if he canceled his bookings then he is a tosspot because WWE always tells it's new signings (aside from huge stars) to work out their bookings.

IF you watch the last video wire with Morishima vs. Pearce, Pearce was pretty damn funny. "Are you ribbing me?!"

That's not strictly accurate. They let him finish up his domestic bookings, which he did, dropping several titles along the way and majorly changing booking for a few promotions. I believe the Japan tour was like a few months away and so he cancelled way ahead, it would've come through after he had already started otherwise.

Mooияakeя™ 07-03-2007 06:04 PM

Still... If anyone knows where to watch it online, or when it's done if it's up. Please post.

I'll check Dailymotion etc. But The closest thing we have over here is TWC Fight!, and that's not available on my bastard carrier.

I actually meant to include Jimmy Jacobs on my list. I am really looking forward to his return. Davey Richards is a damn fine talent, but I didn't want to necessarily include him with ROH's best, because people seem to jump on me for supporting underrated talent. I haven't seen much of Matt Cross, but he is apparently damn awesome, and improving leaps and bounds.

BJ Whitmer certainly isn't a bad talent. He's solid on all counts, and I have found myself enjoying a lot of his work. Adam Pearce is apparently shaping into a great promo guy, as well. Combine that with his passable ring skills and you have yourself two more solid talents for ROH's base. Jack Evans is also better than given credit for. As you said, a lot of people don't like him, but I find him able to play the face role very well. He's improved substance-wise in the ring, and he's using his flexibility to enhance matches, rather than just inject them with ADD.

I love the way that ROH has no issue dipping into other promotions, whether it be for Championships (FIP, SHIMMER) international talent (Pro Wrestling NOAH, Dragon Gate) or to even just pad out their roster sometimes (CHIKARA, PWG, IWA-MS). It's a great selfless approach to professional wrestling, that makes it seem more like a sport, and less like a soap opera.

Mr. Nerfect 07-03-2007 07:33 PM

It is a pretty dickish move to tell a guy that there's a spot for him in the company, and then retract it because you're idiots and can't think of anything for the guy.

His work at both ROH PPVs has been praised, so his stock should continue to rise, which is good for him. I have a feeling he may be offered a WWE deal when his ROH contract comes up. This probably won't be until 2009, though, so who knows what will happen by then?

I'm really looking forward to Castagnoli's feud with Matt Sydal, Chris Hero and the rest of Sweet N' Sour International. Larry Sweeney's group is pretty much becoming ROH's version of The Kings of Wrestling. So far they have: Larry Sweeney, Chris Hero, Matt Sydal, Sara Del Ray, Tank Toland and Bobby Dempsey. So far, so good.

Of course you haven't. Ring of Honor is a new promotion to reach a national market. They don't have the name power of World Wrestling Entertainment, obviously.

Seriously, though, give it a chance. For ten bucks, or fifteen, whatever it is, you get two amazing tag team matches, both of which have been labelled MOTY by some people. Plus you get a nice little match between two men who have found success in Japan, plus you get to be introduced to these new entities you knew nothing about. Granted, you might be thinking you don't know them for a reason, but if you actually watch and see what they have to offer, you might take some satisfaction in discovering these guys.
