Spiderpig, Spiderpig...does whatever a Spiderpig...does! (aka Simpsons Movie Thread)

Only 17 more days :D

Mr Regal 07-11-2007 05:47 AM

I'm not really hyped about this movie!

I mean we have had the Simpsons on TV for an age doing everything that can be done. Unless they do some kind of South Park mastery of film comedy i can't see it being anything other than an extended TV episode.

I haven't looked into the film much, so please do tell me if i should be expecting something more!

Kane Knight 07-11-2007 02:02 PM

You should be expecting about 30% less, actually.

Tornado 07-11-2007 02:33 PM

This is either going to totally blow, or totally rule...there is no inbetween for The Simpsons now.

Stickman 07-11-2007 03:31 PM

THIS IS MAKE IT OR BREAK IT FOR THE SIMPSONS!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!

94 SVT Cobra 07-11-2007 09:44 PM

For some odd reason, i think that the people at fox have really had MORE then enough time to come up with something good for this movie. I have faith, hopefull its worthwhile

ClockShot 07-11-2007 09:52 PM

I'm overdue for a good comedy to see. I may go see this. But it's just easier and cheaper to sit home and watch it.

Kane Knight 07-11-2007 10:00 PM

Anyone want to explain to me how y' all lost out to Springfield, VT?

mitchables 07-11-2007 10:09 PM

I saw a longish version of the trailer at the movies last night, and I am highly optimistic except for one thing: President Schwarzenegger? Moreover, President Schwarzenegger who looks and sounds exactly like Rainier Wolfcastle sans the brown hair? I mean, I know that Wolfcastle is an obvious Arnie homage but I never thought they'd flat-out replace him. :$

Vietnamese Crippler 07-12-2007 06:03 AM

The one line from the trailer that has sold me on the movie:

Homer (flipping through a Bible): This book doesn't have any answers!!!

Downunder 07-12-2007 06:28 AM

It looks like it will be a 90 minute Simpsons episode (or whatever the length is) and therefore it will be as boring as the last 10+ years of the Simpsons.

YOUR Hero 07-12-2007 09:46 AM

I'll see it. In about a year or so, whenever it's a renter.

Indifferent Clox 07-12-2007 10:27 AM

Simpsons is hit or miss on tv now. But when it's hit it's pretty damn good. The movie has higher production quality and thus better animation, 1 continuos storyline which means excellent run on gags and the like for hours.

...Or, rather...That'd be what I'd say if it wasn't premiering in Springfield, VT. :shifty:

FakeLaser 07-12-2007 01:45 PM

I can't wait.

Fuck Vermont.

Kane Knight 07-12-2007 02:17 PM

Man, New England Rocks. First the home of Family Guy, now this. ;)

haha Nice comparison. But Winston does indeed rule...Vermont just blows.

diothoir 07-12-2007 07:46 PM

Actually, I'm looking forward to it.

I'm a sucker for their marketing. :$

Fignuts 07-12-2007 11:13 PM

I didn't really care that much as I havn't liked the simpsons for some time, but the spider-pig thing had me rolling.

Disagree, since the majority of the writers are the old writers. Out of the "new school", I think maybe Ian Maxtone-Graham, Matt Selman and Mike Scully are about the only three who contributed. Outside of that, it's the classic roster of people like Jon Vitti, John Schwartzwelder, Al Jean, Mike Reiss, George Meyer, David Mirkin, and obviously Matt Groening. I think I'm forgetting a few, too. But I'm relatively certain that most of them are old-school writers, and thus I have more confidence in this film than the current show would deserve.

Mitch you and I will always disagree on the Simpsons, as you like it and I think is is well past it's use by date, and wasn't very good to start with.

mitchables 07-13-2007 01:58 AM

Yeah, I know that's how you feel. :( I tend to agree with you on the 'best days are behind it' thing, though I don't feel the most recent seasons were anywhere near as bad as the run between seasons 13-16. Still, as far as TV goes, I'll take even the worst of the Simpsons over every reality TV show ever, which tends to be all that most Aussie networks play these days.

Just saying though, that as far as the batch of writers is concerned, they could've done a lot worse. :-\

Savio 07-13-2007 09:13 PM

it will suck

Evil Vito 07-14-2007 12:33 AM

Yeah I'm definitely seeing this.

ct2k 07-14-2007 07:48 AM

Not expecting huge things but I'll go anyway

road doggy dogg 07-14-2007 12:19 PM

It'll probably suck but how can anybody growing up in the 90's not see the SIMPSONS MOVIE.

Jeritron 07-14-2007 03:19 PM

very interested to see how this does financially. It will succeed (exceed its budget), but it's hard to tell whether it's box office gross will be dissapointing or astronomical. It's hard to tell really.

A part of me says, well people seem to agree the Simpsons isn't good anymore and might not turn out.

Then again, Simpsons has been a cultural phenomenon for the past 17 years and has so many fans old and new. I don't see how it won't turn most of the people it has been followed by along the lines out to the theater to check it out. Plus it's still gets high ratings.

Who knows. I suppose theres a chance it will dissapoint financially, but I think its a safer bet that it will do huge numbers for an animated movie thats not Shrek or pixar

FakeLaser 07-15-2007 02:07 PM

I think that this will be the biggest movie of the summer.

Mr Regal 07-15-2007 02:44 PM

Your opinion isn't valid anymore. You have consumed too much beeer to be taken seriously.

weather vane 07-15-2007 10:36 PM

can I have 4 beers?

darkpower 07-16-2007 03:52 AM

Something about the new Simpsons movie that's been fucking with me majorily.....

Shaggy 07-22-2007 11:29 PM

I love the end of the new TV Spot...

Marge-"You Can Bring Spider Pig with you?"

Homer- "He's not Spider Pig anymore....He's Harry Plopper!"

Shisen Kopf 07-22-2007 11:43 PM

wow, there is a state called Vermont?! I bet this movie does great at the Box office initially then seriously drops after the fanboys stop going.

road doggy dogg 07-23-2007 02:47 PM

So does anybody know if they're going to end the series sometime after the movie comes out? 'Cause I'm totally pumped about new Futurama episodes instead of crappy new Simpsons ones.
