One thing that really annoys me about John Cena...

His attire. I mean, the shoes he wears, the shorts, they just don't scream "wrestler." If John Cena was still wearing his bi-coloured trunks, I'd probably like him a lot more. I don't mind it when wrestlers bust out the unusual attire to set themselves appart (Paul London & Brian Kendrick), but for the most part, I think a wrestler should wear wrestling attire.

John Cena wears shorts like he's embarrassed to be a wrestler. I guess that's all well and good, apart from the bit about him supposedly being the best wrestler in the company.

I know tights might not be the coolest thing around, and I can understand why some wrestlers separate themselves by going baggy, but come on, when you're wrestling Randy Orton in his skimpy trunks, it's not like you've got anything to lose. John Cena just seems to do it in a condescending way, too. I guess it's because I saw him on Conan O'Brien and they discussed it, and he said that the man fighting in tights business isn't his thing. I guess Cena might have just been trying to be funny, but come on, if you're a wrestler, you shouldn't be ashamed of the wrestling industry.

It's probably not as big a deal as I'm making it out to be, but honestly, I associate John Cena's wrestling skill with his trunk-wearing days. The shorts fit him when he was all ADD and rapper, but he's grown past that now. He doesn't need to be "different" now that he's meant to be the top guy, and he doesn't even do the rapper shit anymore.

John Cena just looks like a fool when he's out there wrestling in shorts that look like they're for a pre-teen boy and shoes made for a night at the movies with girls he wants but can't have. Honestly, put conventional attire and boots on the man, and he might seem less awful.

I kind of agree that his attire's annoying, but while he's still Superman, I don't think it'll make any difference.

Rob 07-17-2007 01:35 PM

His attire makes him different from everyone else. Maybe the whole company should just wear black trunks and boots.

Kane Knight 07-17-2007 02:04 PM

Maybe we should just give him a 2x4 or hook him up wth a shemale valet.

I like your idea better.

"Whether tucking or squatting
My adam's apple I'm still flaunting"

KingofOldSchool 07-17-2007 02:25 PM

"I got you backin up in the doggy style position"

Slow 07-17-2007 02:40 PM

Its not as bad as lindsay's, i mean his attire just oozes personality.

Then all we’d see is Snitsky/Lashley.

Nobody would ever get over with just black boots and trunks.....

Stickman 07-17-2007 02:54 PM

The SNitcsky/Venis match had me looking at two generic wrestlers only know generic wrestlers don't have mullets, they shave it balled. So I dont' mind the attire as much as he annoys me with his "Marine" shit.

Yeah, its so fucking hard to add colors, designs, and logos to tights. They must be bland and boring.

Xero 07-17-2007 03:37 PM

Well, at least he isn't a fucking Power Ranger...

Anybody Thrilla 07-17-2007 03:41 PM

His attire? His ATTIRE?

Good lord.

addy2hotty 07-17-2007 04:26 PM

I'm sure Cena is a gayer. That's why I don't like him. Mostly.

chrisat928 07-17-2007 04:54 PM

In case no one has noticed, and it doesn't look like anyone has, he hasn't done the "marine" thing in about a month and a half.

Anybody Thrilla 07-17-2007 04:57 PM

It would be much better if he dressed like Big Daddy V.

Who watches week in and week out?

chrisat928 07-17-2007 05:41 PM

I never miss a wrestling show. Hell, I even watched every episode of WSX.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 07-17-2007 06:02 PM

Yeah its so dumb he doesnt wear underwear around the ring

Stickman 07-17-2007 06:29 PM

It's funny cuz I was watching Orton come to the ring thinking he looks stupid in his tights

XL 07-17-2007 06:36 PM

Of all the things that could annoy you about Cena you pick his attire.

In all honesty I get where you're coming from. And that line about "not being his thing" is bullshit. I remember towards the beginning of his career he boasted he had like 200 pairs of trunks/boots.

I actually his look back then. It was different enough.

Maybe they should go a little tongue in cheek and have him wear blue and red tights (and come to the ring in a red cape)

Because wearing tights and trunks are sooooooo interesting right.

What Would Kevin Do? 07-18-2007 04:43 AM

Honestly, if Cena came out in tights now, I'd laugh. I dunno, it's just not "him" now. He could pull it off back in the day, but now, it just doesn't fit his personality.

Not even if they were coloured and had funky designs? That's what he needs according to Steele.

Maybe if they were green, and had crazy pink and purple zig zags, and spray painted chains running across them... Then maybe.

Jura 07-18-2007 05:10 AM

The clothes don't make the man, the little kids in Asia makes the clothes wait...I mean the clothes don't make the man, the man makes the clothes.

Hey, why don't we put him in a chicken suit? It made the Gobbledy Gooker different, and being different is always good.

Being different was fine for John Cena when he was fighting up the midcard. Right now he is meant to be carrying the company. A WWE Champion, no matter how "controversial" they are meant to be, should be a wrestler first and foremost. John Cena wrestling in jean shorts says "I'm too cool to wear what the other guys wear, despite this being my profession," and that's not in a good way.

Something as little as the colour of your tie can alter people's perceptions of you, drastically. I knew so many of you would be predictable and condescend the concept of a wrestler's choice in attire, but there have been tests done to prove what someone wears, and even what colours effects how easily people buy into them. My proposition is that John Cena wrestling in street clothes makes him hard to accept as a wrestler. Wrestling attire, as "gay" as it may be, could theoretically help me accept John Cena as a wrestler.

John Cena's attire isn't the thing that most annoys me about John Cena. It's just the thing I see talked least about. His entrance music is God awful (especially the start of it) and his style is shit, but I just haven't seen a topic based on his attire. So I created one.

SammyG 07-18-2007 05:52 AM

His attire fits his gimmick. I'll say it again. I like John Cena.

No, what Steele was saying is that the only alternative to wearing street clothes isn't wearing black trunks.

That's fair enough, and I can see where you get that from, but is it really his gimmick now? Come to think of it, I can't think of what John Cena's gimmick is now besides winning all the time.

The Fugitive 07-18-2007 06:47 AM

I'm pretty sure it's some sort of underdog gimmick.

I don't know, maybe I've forgotten but I've been brainwashed with all the 'CAN CENA OVERCOME THE ODDS' promos.

Ah, that's the one. I question how a guy who has been WWE Champion for almost a year can be called an underdog.

What Would Kevin Do? 07-18-2007 07:38 AM

It's less "underdog" and more " won't back down."

It's almost like they're trying to turn him into a typical action movie hero. the odds are against him, but he goes in full force, kicks ass, and wins in the end.

SammyG 07-18-2007 08:13 AM

Yeah, what WWKD said pretty much. I would mark out for a Basic Thuganomics heel return though

gatoconbotas 07-18-2007 08:52 AM

Hey -- as much as I don't like Cena, at least he can talk. Lashley can't even do that.
