Tool For possible greatest band of all time.

Wow.

Mr Regal 07-24-2007 06:49 PM

Wouldn't go that far, but Tool are pretty amazing.

Kane Knight 07-24-2007 06:57 PM

:?:

Silent 07-24-2007 07:11 PM

Who's deciding it? I disagree, by the way. :o

Bad Company 07-25-2007 12:02 AM

Kane Knight is still holding out for a Maroon 5 comeback.

Impact! 07-25-2007 12:43 AM

How about no?

Vastardikai 07-25-2007 02:05 AM

Tool is perhaps the best band influenced by the Melvins, along with At the Drive In and Mars Volta (both of which have Bixler-Zavala and Rodriguez-Lopez)

Rush and Clutch are up there, and even then, they have the same issue: A singer whose voice takes some getting used to.

I have to go with Sabbath as best band ever, preferably fronted by Dio.

Rammsteinmad 07-25-2007 02:21 AM

The answer is Dream Theater.

Skippord 07-25-2007 02:24 AM

Tool is pretty immense

ron the dial 07-25-2007 11:21 AM

Pink Floyd is better than any band mentioned in this thread.

Which is about as likely as you coming up with a smart or funny comeback.

I dunno about PF being better than DT, but they're up there as one of the greats.

Still, I'm wondering about the context of this thread. :?:

toxic rooster 07-25-2007 12:38 PM

There's nothing about it on Google News :?:

Dream Theater is like having sex for a really long time without being able to blow your load. They're mostly alot of meandering shit, doing whatever they can to prolong their songs way past it's point of relevancy.

Tool is good stuff though, but not the best.

Indifferent Clox 07-25-2007 07:06 PM

I like bright eyes.

Requiem 07-25-2007 07:27 PM

Tool is amazing. Danny Carey is one of the greatest drummers to ever live.

Jordan 07-25-2007 08:02 PM

Uhhhh.... no. Not only do I not like Tool but I just don't think they are any good.
I can not like band but respect their music, but that music is horrible.

Requiem 07-25-2007 08:19 PM

Tool is progressive, and not for everyone. But you're an idiot if you don't think they are talented at all. I won't go as far as saying everyone in the band is the best ever at what they do, but I will stand by my words that Danny Carey is freaking amazing. And the rest are still very talented.

Jordan 07-25-2007 08:25 PM

Agreed. I just don't see how that noise is pleasant. They have good songs that I like a bit, but they are the mainstream songs.

Requiem 07-25-2007 08:41 PM

What Tool have you actually listened to? There is a LOT of Tool. And what kind of music do you listen to then, if you think theirs is crap?

Tool is good stuff though, but not the best.

Dream Theater's more like "Not blowing your load prematurely for the sake of a hit single."

It's marathon sex, instead of your awkward first time in the back of mommy's car.

I'm assuming since he doesn't like "Noise" he's talking about the industrial and disonant devices, at which point, he probably won't like any Tool, no matter what.

Zen v.W.o. 07-25-2007 09:09 PM

His best bet are to have a listen to "Undertow" and also "Opiate". Would be more accessible.

Impact! 07-25-2007 09:56 PM

Obviously Slayer is the greatest band of all time...or maybe Pantera

Skippord 07-25-2007 11:07 PM

Motorhead

Vastardikai 07-26-2007 02:32 AM

Boston!

"More Than a Feeling" Is the world's greatest song! [/Carl]

I can't tell if this is a good thing or a bad thing? You like Dream Theater?

I like Tool, but certainly not the best band ever.

I dunno if Dream Theater is either but I would pick DT over Tool.

El Vaquero de Infierno 07-26-2007 01:52 PM

While Dream Theater are probably the most superior band when it comes to musicianship, it is their weakness lyrically which stops them from being the best band ever.

Just John 07-26-2007 02:11 PM

I've listened to a few of their songs plus the whole of the Laterus CD (or whatever its called) it didn't really do much for me personally. I wouldn't say they aren't talented though.

Yeh that sums it up pretty much. :y:

Did we ever find that whole 'context' thing this thread seems to be sorely lacking?

Marathon sex>Blowing it in 30 seconds. :D

Gooner, "sez who" is the context sorely lacking.

Stickman 07-26-2007 03:27 PM

I seem to recal a British band in the 60's that pretty much IS the greatest band of all time.

weather vane 07-26-2007 04:32 PM

Motley Crue

Heyman 07-26-2007 04:52 PM

Limp Bizkit

only kidding

Stickman 07-26-2007 05:51 PM

Papa Roach
