God, is Rey Mysterio really only 32?

No wonder he looked 12 in WCW. He WAS!

I was looking at past Smackdown Champions in terms of the "Smackdown Curse," and Rey just seems so young to have the history of injuries he does.

(YEah, yeah, I know. Steroids. Work with me.)

Innovator 07-26-2007 02:41 PM

Well when he comes back, probably a little slimmer, he can have nice a feud with Bobby Lashley for the cruiserweight title. Of course after Lashley all of the sudden drops back to his amateur wrestling weight of 190

IC Champion 07-26-2007 02:44 PM

I hope Khali falls on Rey Rey's head.

Stickman 07-26-2007 03:52 PM

Why do they call him Rey Rey?

James Steele 07-26-2007 03:57 PM

It also doesn't help that he has wrestled for 18 years.

Fox 07-26-2007 04:23 PM

Using a very, very high impact style.

I don't think his constant knee injuries are a direct result of steroids as they would be from jumping off the top rope for 18 years.

Mercury Bullet 07-26-2007 04:49 PM

Some people are just more injury prone than others. And he picked a bad career to be injury prone in, I'm surprised he's lasted as long as he has. I didn't realize he was 32 though, I would've thought more along the lines of 38.

Slow 07-26-2007 05:34 PM

speaking of injuries, has Christian ever been injured? i can't think of a time he's been out, and he definitly doesn't look like he's on steroids

I honestly thought rey was younger, but then he does hide behind a mask, and i don't know much about his history

He injured his back when he was feuding with Jericho after WrestleMania XX. I just remember because he was getting a push and then he got injured and it haulted it.

But that is the only time I can remember him injured.

Well, except he's sustained several injuries working a significantly safer style, while other people who are using a much higher impact style are currently unharmed. You're the one with the hardon for TNA, you should be able to see that.

mrslackalack 07-26-2007 11:14 PM

Mysterio has several good years left in his career in my opinion.

mrslackalack 07-26-2007 11:15 PM

Mr. JL is right, Christian was injured for a few months in the spring/summer of 04.

The Optimist 07-27-2007 12:11 AM

Mysterio has been wrestling for a god-awful long time, and for a style that gets wrestlers hurt often. He has slowed down the past few year probably because he's basically also because he's on the ass end of his career ability-wise. Which is also the reason he's easily hurt. Yeah, that wasn't too hard to say.

Haven't seen TNA in months, to be honest. Kind of lost interest. I blame Vince Russo's booking and the Benoit tragedy, as I've stopped watching most of WWE as well.

Mysterio first injured his knee in WCW around early 1999. From 97-99, Mysterio, as fans of Nitro and Thunder would recall, an extremely fast-paced and high risk style, the likes of which had never really been seen before. It was this style, which he used for years prior in ECW and Mexico, that led to his ultimate knee injury in WCW. He returned, and it was at that time forth that he's utilized a much, much safer, toned down style (much to my chagrin).

Rammsteinmad 07-27-2007 02:39 AM

Safe style or not, he's still awesome to watch in the ring. And at 32, he still has many great years left in him. :y:

BigDaddyCool 07-27-2007 03:18 PM

Rey sucks. Any well trained monkey can do what he does. You know what, I'm sorry, that was wrong. It could be a poorly trained monkey.

Afterlife 07-28-2007 05:02 AM

Your avatar suddenly makes perfect sense.

Apparently Rey's doctor advised him never to wrestle again after his current surgery again. It's good Rey has had a full career at such a young age. That means when he signed with the WWE, he was about 27? That's quite shocking, as I remember everyone was talking about how he was old and broken then.

And he pretty much was broken down by then. Amazing.

Blue Demon 07-28-2007 02:12 PM

Rey as WWE champ = is not cool

The MAC 07-28-2007 04:32 PM

32 refers to his height in inches

He debuted with WCW at 19 for sure.

And Rey's doctors wanted him to retire 6 or 7 years ago.

Retirement at 25. Jesus.

Afterlife 07-29-2007 08:34 AM

Honestly, tho...if I could retire at 25...I totally would.

Afterlife 07-29-2007 08:34 AM

Then again, I'm a quitter.

It's actually not uncommon to call someone by their first name twice if you're a "Jr."

But
