Greatest Hits: Metallica

Lets say Metallica was to release a greatest hits CD with 20 songs on it. What 20 songs would you like to see on that CD?

Nervous Ferret 08-20-2007 12:49 AM

i dont know

master of puppetrs
battery
one
the call of ktulu

ct2k 08-20-2007 01:41 PM

Four Horsemen
Whiplash
For Whom the Bell Tolls
Fade to Black
Battery
Orion
One
Dyer's Eve

That is all

Crossrine 08-20-2007 01:45 PM

Sad But true would have to be somewhere on there.
And enter sandman. Among other ones

El Fangel 08-20-2007 03:43 PM

Enter Sandman
Fade To Black
Four Horsemen
Nothing Else Matters
Whisky In the Jar
Master Of Puppets
Wherever I May Roam
No Leaf Clover
I Disappear
Turn The Page
The Unforgiven
Sanitarium
The Memory Remains
One
For Whom The Bell Tolls
Battery
Orion
Hit The Lights
Ride The Lightning
Fight Fire With Fire

Stickman 08-20-2007 03:47 PM

Every song could be on the Greatest Hits album. Other than most of the St Anger cd

El Fangel 08-20-2007 04:11 PM

Actually pretty much what Stickman said, although mose songs after the Black album were shite

I disagree. I actually liked Load and Reload. yes it's a lot different from the glory days of Ride the Lighting and stuff like that, but it's still better than a lot of shit other bands put out.

You know, Maybe Load and Reload were sub-par compared to Ride the Lightning and such, but still to me it was more or less like Using the bathroom after a Chinese Buffet, standing up wiping your ass, and then having to shit again. It has a few good moments, but otherwise its painful to sit through.

Then St Anger, was like getting a call from your girlfriend that she is outside your apartment, you then realise while sitting there that your out of toilet paper, and use a pair of underwear, then when you flush the toilet it backs up.

Anathema 08-20-2007 07:33 PM

You see it wouldnt be a 'greatest' hits. They would just select two songs off each album and put them together.

Well maybe not st anger cos that was a giant pile of shit and they know it

And about half of Load and Reload.

Erebus 08-20-2007 07:47 PM

I dunno but Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) seems to be absent from the lists presented. That is for sure one I would include.

Rammsteinmad 08-21-2007 12:03 PM

Rather than doing the same played out argument over Load-era stuff... I'm gonna go along with the thread. I'm gonna get a few songs from each album so that everything is covered. It's funny for a band to be out as long as Metallica and never release an official greatest hits record. Oh well...

1. Hit the Lights
2. The Four Horsemen
3. For Whom The Bell Tolls
4. Fade To Black
5. Am I Evil?
6. Battery
7. Master of puppets
8. Welcome Home (sanitarium)
9. Blackened
10. One
11. Enter Sandman
12. Sad But True
13. Nothing Else Matters
14. Until It Sleeps
15. King Nothing
16. Fuel
17. No Leaf Clover
18. Bleeding Me (S&M Version)
19. I Disappear
20. Frantic

Rammsteinmad 08-21-2007 12:06 PM

Also just wanted to add 20 was pretty difficult. If Metallica ever did release a greatest hits it'd likely be a double cd with about 30 tracks or summit.

ct2k 08-21-2007 12:11 PM

Ok I'd add Blackened, Hit the Lights and Damage Inc to my list

A 20 song album would have to be two discs.

Think about it. 20 songs means that they have to average four minutes apiece. Most MEtallica songs are longer than that, some significantly so. A six minute average is closer to accurate, and that would mean 20 songs would be 2 hours, already 40 minutes longer than a CD is designed to hold. Sure, you can go longer, but even at 80 minutes you're looking at fidelity loss.

20 songs would be 2 60 minute records. Hell, I just looked through my Metallica MP3s, and though I'm missing a couple of albums, we're talking an average of SEVEN MINUTES A SONG. That's two 70 minute discs.

Kane Knight 08-21-2007 12:54 PM

I'll get back to an actual list once I've reviewed the MP3s I'm downloading.

(It's quicker than finding and ripping the discography).

I'm missing enough vintage MEtallica that I can't really reference it off the top of my head,

BigDaddyCool 08-21-2007 01:41 PM

I would just rerelease Master of Puppet and ...And Justice for All.

ct2k 08-21-2007 01:47 PM

I always felt like atleast 4 of the tracks on MOP coulda done with 2-3 minutes removed from them tbh, although I still enjoy the disc regardless I think its like, over the top, ditto AJFA

Stickman 08-21-2007 01:51 PM

Can somebody seriously explain to me what's so bad about Load and Reload? Which songs are terrible from it?

St. Jimmy 08-23-2007 09:18 PM

they had more than 5 songs?

Blitz 08-23-2007 10:59 PM

No love for The Thing That Should Not Be?

I thought Load was an excellent album from top to bottom.

Reload, so/so

Kane Knight 08-24-2007 01:30 AM

What was so terrible about ST Anger?

The drums, the guitars, the "music".

My brother is not a metallica fan at all it's just not his type of music but he watched their documentary. He said it was a great piece of work but..."What the hell were they thinking with St. Anger?"

D Mac 08-24-2007 12:50 PM

Some Kind of Monster rules tho.

Rammsteinmad 08-26-2007 08:11 AM

Load and Reload are both awesome albums. Though Load is much better in my opinion.

St. Anger was good. I wouldn't say it was brilliant but there is some good stuff on there (Frantic and Sweet Amber are cool songs).

The film Some Kind Of Monster is plain awesome. I love watching DVD extras where you see bands in studios/backstage/hanging out etc, so I enjoyed this film from start to finish. :y:

Kane Knight 08-26-2007 11:03 AM

Bad Company 08-26-2007 01:19 PM

I didn't think saint anger was as bad as people made it out to be, hating it is a bit of a bandwagon I think.

Agreed. Just like how Load and Reload supposedly suck.

weather vane 09-02-2007 11:47 PM

Sweet Amber and Frantic are two good songs.

DaveWadding 09-03-2007 12:00 AM

I don't think the could advertise a Metallica's greatest hits and then sell a blank CD...but you know with Lars.

Funky Fly 09-03-2007 02:05 AM

If I were them, I'd just rerelease Kill 'Em All and call it a greatest hits CD. :-\

Unless the blank CD gave you access to a site with all the Metallica songs and like say a certain number of credits you coulduse to download the songs of your choice to put on the said CD.

The Lone Wolf 01-14-2008 04:41 PM

there are many obvious ones to put one there (enter sandman, one, master of puppets, etc.) but i would love to see orion get some more attention.

Crossrine 01-14-2008 09:12 PM

Stop bumping threads

Kris P Lettus 01-14-2008 10:12 PM

The lack of mention of Disposable Soldier saddens me..
