So I am watching the current MNW episode on wwe247 and Piper has assembled a team of John Tenta and two other guys I dont recognize for the uncensored PPV.

I looked up the ppv on wikipedia and it says Piper's team was Jarrett, Benoit, and Mongo.

What happened with those guys piper had picked during his open invitational during that nitro episode?

In typical WCW fashion, they ignored it.

yep. Uncensored 97 has one of the greatest WCW moments of all-time on it when Sting goes nuts and attacks the nWo.

Actually, they did something on an episode of Nitro, where Flair offered Piper the use of the Horsemen, which Piper ended up accepting. Piper apologized to his initially assembled team about not using them.

The guys Piper picked didnt get over with the fans at all and I believe the segment got a real low rating as well. So WCW scrapped it to have an angle where Flair offered the Horsemen to Piper use for that night.

Yeah, they were all nobodies, with the arguable exception of Tenta.

Didnt Goldberg try out for that but didnt make the final cut?

nope, i just watched the segment and unless goldberg was edited out there were only 5 guys who tried out. the first two nobodies who came out got beat by piper but then the boxer, kickboxer, and tenta were selected.
