Mr. Nerfect 09-02-2007 04:22 AM

And your new NWA World Heavyweight Champion is...

Adam Pearce.

He defeated Brent Albright in the tournament finals in Puerto Rico, with Bryan Danielson as the special guest referee. So like it or not, Adam Pearce is now a World Champion. Discuss, if you like.

chrisat928 09-02-2007 04:24 AM

Um, who?

I know who Brent Albright and Bryan Danielson are, but who is Adam Pearce?

blake639raw 09-02-2007 04:44 AM

Good to see Pearce get some recognition. He's an underrated heel, and one of the best promo guys on the indy scene.

Mr. Nerfect 09-02-2007 04:57 AM

Blake pretty much summed it up, but Pearce is an underrated heel, and gives one of the better promos on the independent scene. He's currently involved in ROH as kind of a mid-carder. He's a part of a stable consisting of BJ Whitmer, Brent Albright, one of the ROH students, and himself. He's kind of the mouthpiece for the group. They have been gaining quite a lot of momentum lately, with Peace, Whitmer and Albright actually defeating a team consisting of Nigel McGuinness, Delirious and Pelle Primeau. While Primeau is not high on the ROH ladder, Nigel McGuinness has been one of their main players, fresh off a feud with ROH World Champion, Takeshi Morishima. Delirious is another guy who is considered a big deal in ROH, and is the head trainer of the ROH Wrestling Academy.

He has an assortment of training from the New Japan Dojo, the WCW Powerplant and Ace Steel. CM Punk also received training from Steel, so there's two World Champions who have been trained by Steel.

So yeah, that's some brief history of the guy.

XXXCMPunkXXX 09-02-2007 04:59 AM

So with Pearce capturing the NWA World Title do you guys think it is possible that the NWA World Title will be defended in ROH?

It's possible. I'm not sure how likely it is, but when they pulled the title from TNA, and the three guys rumoured to win where Bryan Danielson, Brent Albright and Claudio Castagnoli, I was thinking that it would be great if ROH could have the belt defended in ROH occasionally. It'd be something great for their PPVs.

I would have chosen Brent Albright over Adam Pearce, but, assuming that ROH and NWA already had something in place, Pearce is probably considered the leader of his group, and putting over over Albright as the NWA World Heavyweight Champion suddenly makes a lot of sense. I'm probably looking too far into things, though.

I would love to see the belt show up in ROH occasionally, though. It would add a lot of energy to his new heel stable if Pearce was recognised as such.

Mr. Nerfect 09-02-2007 05:06 AM

Another Adam Pearce note:

He looks a bit like Barry Darsow, which often provokes the fans into chanting "Repo Man" at him. At some shows, Pearce occasionally whips out a Repo Man and puts it on to play off them.

Two members of the Gold Bond Mafia could now technically be considered "World Champions." It's kind of surreal in the same way Johnny Nitro becoming a World Champion was.

The Fugitive 09-02-2007 05:38 AM

BUH? Adam Pearce? NWA World Heavyweight Champion?

And here's me thinking Albright was getting the nod after Danielson got injured.

Yeah, they really should have put it on Albright, methinks. That's why there is a conspiracy-loving part of me that wants to call this an agreement with ROH, as Adam Pearce is leading the stable Brent Albright is in. It wouldn't make too much sense to see Albright walk in with the NWA Title, and then start getting bossed around by Pearce.

The Fugitive 09-02-2007 07:19 AM

I haven't read detailed results for the match, but my feeling is that because Danielson was injured and couldn't win the title, he wasn't going to let Albright win the match and maybe quick-counted a victory for Pearce.

Mr. Nerfect 09-02-2007 07:46 AM

The NWA is traditionally not like most companies in that they have shows all over the place, but if they somehow decided to get everything together, a feud between Bryan Danielson and Brent Albright could go a long way to establishing something outside the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

*yawn*

The One 09-02-2007 01:15 PM

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Brian Danielson didn't win!!!!!!!!! Life is good.

By the way, who is Adam Pearce?

KingofOldSchool 09-02-2007 01:29 PM

It's pretty bad when a ROH midcarder wins the NWA Title.

The One 09-02-2007 01:34 PM

KoOS, is he any good?

loopydate 09-02-2007 01:34 PM

Pearce will be a great champion in the tradition of "Colorado Kid" Mike Rapada, Gary Steele, and "Rugged" Ronnie Garvin.

The One 09-02-2007 01:36 PM

HEY! Rapada had his moments, and I don't care what anyone said, Ronnie was WAY underrated.

IC Champion 09-02-2007 01:50 PM

lol

Loose Cannon 09-02-2007 01:52 PM

if there was any Garvin that should of won the belt, it should have been Jimmy.

Mercury Bullet 09-02-2007 02:09 PM

I don't know who that is. :|

I might as well be NWA Champ. I think I'm going to lay claim to it from this point forward.

IC Champion 09-02-2007 02:11 PM

Atleast I know who Mercury Bullet is.

Mercury Bullet 09-02-2007 02:17 PM

See, I'm already more over with the wrestling fanbase.

The One 09-02-2007 02:47 PM

I've already claimed the WWE World Tag Team Titles and WWE Tag Team Titles. Both of them (or I suppose all 4 of them), for myself. Until they can produce a decent team, I am the undisputed Tag Team Champion of the world.

#1-norm-fan 09-02-2007 03:31 PM

But... how is that possible when MVP ALONE is better than you? :-\

I actually like Rapada, too, but when you think about the NWA Heavyweight Title, he's about the thirtieth name you think of.

The One 09-02-2007 03:34 PM

Yeah, he made a damn fine North American champ though. :y: He'd probably be the first guy I'd think of for that belt...well...post the glory 80's days.

mrslackalack 09-02-2007 03:40 PM

Garvin vs Valentine at Royal Rumble 90 is one of the most underated matches ever IMO.

loopydate 09-02-2007 03:46 PM

I was surprised he never got a real shot at the big time. I always thought Lawler was high on him in the '90s. He put the USWA Title on him during a stretch when it was all WWF guys winning that belt. For the better part of two years, the title lineage went Razor Ramon, Jerry Lawler, Ahmed Johnson, Jeff Jarrett, Jerry Lawler, Sid Vicious, Jerry Lawler, Mike Rapada.

But I don't remember him ever being used by the WWF.

No offence, but even fewer people know who you are, buddy. :p

If anyone from these boards is getting the NWA World Heavyweight Title, it's gotta be Kane Knight. He has a shitload of posts, if I recall, so with those posts, there is more chance than most that a KK post is read by someone who stumbles onto these boards. Plus the guy has some martial arts background, so he might be believable.

Adam Pearce is actually one of the more over heels on the independent wrestling circuit, I believe. So whether or not you know who he is doesn't really matter. Other people do, I guess.

I'm not asking this to be an ass, I honestly want to know, seeing as you are a trained wrestler, and aren't as stupid as you make yourself out to be sometimes; but what don't you like about Bryan Danielson?

Spot monkey? :|

I have an amateur wrestling, judo, and mma background. PLUS, I am a rising star whereas KK is well past his prime. I would be a much more suitable choice for NWA Champ. :y:

Anyway, with Mercury Bullet or Adam Pearce or KK as NWA Champ, point being they are taking a HUGE step back from where they were. HUGE. F'ing huge.

BigDaddyCool 09-03-2007 02:32 PM

Hey, remember when guys like Flair, Race, and Rhodes held the NWA title. Hell remember when guys like Douglas or Jarrett held the NWA title. Ah well, good for jobber #3 or whatever his name is.

IC Champion 09-03-2007 02:42 PM

Jobber #3, priceless.

BigDaddyCool 09-03-2007 02:44 PM

Well I think this proves WWE isn't alone in its problems of suck ass champions.

Well then you're credible enough to be WWE Champion these days. Professional wrestling is taking a huge step back.

The One 09-03-2007 08:28 PM

Right now, the chair that I'm sitting on is about as credible as ANY of the World Champions currently are.
