So, I'm thinking about getting a Gamecube for xmas...

and I'll probably get Double Dash with it. Can you recommend any other good games.

razorblade kisses 12-13-2003 09:03 AM

Billy hatcher and the Giant egg

Burnout 2

Smash brothers melee

Mario party 5 :)

born angry 12-13-2003 09:04 AM

why?

The Destroyer 12-13-2003 09:50 AM

Metroid Prime. You need this game.

Eternal Darkness can be quite good, as can Worms 3D, especially with friends, although the single player mode is still fun.

MrMeJW 12-13-2003 10:27 AM

Zelda, Metroid, Super Smash Brothers

born angry 12-13-2003 11:58 AM

Team Sheep 12-13-2003 04:20 PM

cheers, I'll take a look at those games. BTW, i've got a PS2, I'm getting a Gamecube because they have decent adventure games: Zelda, Mario .etc. And since the gamecube is so cheap now, I thought it would be an ideal time to get one.

Vega 12-13-2003 05:17 PM

Definitely get Super Smash Brothers Melee.
Mario SUnshine is decent but Mario 64 was much better.
Meteroid Prime is good for what I have played
Don't buy the matrix game, I'ts really good but also really short. Rent it instead.

Silent 12-13-2003 05:22 PM

Avoid the Matrix game at all costs. It is boring, and literally FULL of bugs. The game is one giant glitch that will somehow boot when you place it in your system.

If you buy the game cube, make sure you get the Zelda bundle pack. It comes with-

The Legend of Zelda

The Legend of Zelda:The adventure of link

Ocarina of Time

Majoras Mask

There should be a law that says you can't have a Gamecube without ever playing any of these games at least once.

The Mask 12-14-2003 05:39 PM

my brother has one and none of those games :(

Nowhere Man 12-14-2003 06:05 PM

I'm a PS2 man myself, but the Gamecube is a lot of fun for a second system, especially with the lowered price.

Get Ikaruga, but only if you're into games that are ungodly HARD. Still a lot of fun, though.

Also, besides the others people have suggested, I'd also recommend:

Resident Evil (the re-make)
Star Wars Rebel Strike (pretty much got looked over because of the awesomeness that is Kotor)
Metal Gear Solid: the Twin Snakes when it comes out
The Sonic the Hedgehog super pack thing (it's still weird seeing Sega's flagship character on a Nintendo system, but the Sonic games always ruled)

All on one disc. Pretty sweet deal. You can't buy it by itself though, unless you wanna go to eBay or somthing.

Y2Ant 12-14-2003 07:40 PM

sadlhflsadfkhkkkk

I have the OoT: Master quest disc that I got with Wind Waker, damnit I really could use Majora's mask though, haven't played it yet.

Are the NES ones in NES graphics and stuff?

I have to have those discs dammit

Head 12-14-2003 07:46 PM

Yeh, they are all in their origional graphics, even though I think they mighta updated the frame rate or somthing a little bit.

You gotta buy a couple of new games to get it and give Nintendo their pin numbers (renting them would probably do), or subscribe to Nintendo Power for $20. I don't remember exactly, nintendo has info on their website.

loopydate 12-14-2003 07:50 PM

Super Smash Bros. Melee

The Two Towers (haven't played ROTK yet, 'cause I don't want the movie spoilers, but it looks incredible)

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

Animal Crossing

Mario Golf

Ikaruga's awesome, but difficult and short.

Haven't tried Rebel Strike, but you can prolly get Rougue Leader on the mad cheap. That game is so awesome I'm still playing it.

F Zero GX is awesome.

I was also pretty big on WMXIX ecxept for the obvious flaw of the "Story" Mode.

G 12-15-2003 12:05 AM

Sonic Mega Collection
REmake
Resident Evil Zero
Mario Sunshine
MK: Double Dash

Never has there been a statement so true. Anyway, as it's been said, you HAVE to get Super Smash Brothers: Melee that's just how it is, Metroid Prime also. My favorite is Eternal Darkness though, it's just... well good. Haven't got Mario Sunshine yet and I'm not really much up on the GameCube but it is a good system and way worth it :y:. Though why not a X-Box? Is it pure price or what, 'cause personally it's a great system that gets overlooked by most.

Or you can get a job in a game store. Nintendo sent out hundreds of free copies of it to different retailers as Xmas prezzies for the staff. When my mate got it I marked out like a bitch. Ocarina of Time is one of the great games of all time and to see it on rerelease is fantastic. (not that I'll get it. I never threw the old N64 out! :D )

Mario Party is great for the sheer fact that you can play it while REALLY drunk and not be at any kind of disadvantage. It's the ultimate party game.

Also a couple of bargin buys: Gauntlet Dark legacy is simple, graphically unimpressive, cheesy as hell and one of the most addictive multiplayer games I've ever seen. The fact that the higher level you are the cooler looking your character gets and the joy of nicking each others items is great. I once went to bed leaving my housemates playing it, came back down the next day and they were still there. I love the way you can just add or remove players from the game without having to interrupt play.
Another good buy is IMO (bet people disagree) Ledgends of Wrestling 2. It's dirt cheap (I got it for a tenner) and beating the shit out some random jobber with a baseball bat is kinda cool. Don't expect anything much from it, but it's good for a laugh every now and then and so cheap that you might as well buy it rather than rent.

Games to aviod:

Rouge Leader: Cheap but not worth it. Suffers from the old game design theory of "if we make all the levels REALLY hard then nobody will realise that there isn't actually very much in the game." Playing the same level a million times over isn't what is meant by replay value. Plus the interface on the main menue is dire (it kicks you out to the start screen every time you die).
Hunter: Like Gauntlet but costs more.
Matrix: Duff, duff, duff, duff, duff.

The Cube is a great consol to have over Xmas. PS2 may have a bigger range of games. But nothing beats the cube for speed and multiplayer.

:wtf:

You thought this game was REALLY hard?

Kane Knight 12-15-2003 08:35 PM

Hunter was fun. I thought it was better than Gauntlet, but too glitchy and only had true play value in multiplayer mode. Much like Gauntlet. Considering I got it for under 10, I can't complain too much. Still, if you're looking for a fun MP game, neither one's really the way to go.

Spoon Bender 12-17-2003 05:25 PM

Meh. Was to me. I just hated the way there was no 'retry mission' button.

Team Sheep 12-18-2003 01:53 PM

thanks a lot, I didn't expect this much info, you've helped me out a lot thanks.

I didn't die enough for it to be a real issue for me. If I failed, it was usually because of mission objectives (The Falcon got Trashed on the DS run, too many Tibana gas containers lost), and That kinda loss DOES take you to a screen with a retry option.

Some levels were pretty hard, but I have pretty much everything in the game unlocked. most of my replaying was trying for Gold, and it was enjoyable to me. The only one that was mind-numbing, mega-frustrating, and had me swearing at the screen was the next to last (regular) mission, in which I kept getting Darth Bobbed. The last one was hard, but not insurmountable.

But hey, I bet there are games you've mastered which I SUCK at. So I mean, this is all opinion, and one person can find a game hard while another does not.
