The Return of Edge

Given that Edge is due to return soon there appears to be a solid opinion that he is going to RAW.
What I don't understand is this;

If RAW has more solo characters that are/could be title contenders than Smackdown has, and it's been well commented that SD needs strengthened, then wouldn't it make more sense for Edge to return to SD as a face?

Personally, I would love to see the return of the feud he had with Angle. (Remember the Hair v Hair matches, etc)

Smackdown needs wrestlers even though I would love to see Edge on Raw

The CyNick 03-02-2004 12:32 PM

Eddie Guerrero

John Cena

Undertaker

Rey Mysterio

SD has enough faces, they need heels.

I want Edge to return as a "Hollywood Blonde" type of heel on Smackdown.

Edge is Smack Down!

Edge was on a role when the brand split was on. I think moving him to the RAW side will do him more harm than good. See Matt Hardy. He was rocking on Smack Down! and when he was switched he kind of lost most of his momentum.

Side Note:

Like the CyNick said before me, Smack Down! needs a heel. I think a nice Rob Van Dam heel turn and roster switch would be just what Smack Down & Rob Van Dam needs in order to start to draw in more money for the company.

If Edge goes to Smackdown, I wouldn't mind seeing them get compensated with Rob Van Dam or Randy Orton.

Orton can eventually develop a solid rivalry with Cena (kinda like Rock/HHH 98).

RVD on the other hand, could become one of "Heyman's boy's" and turn heel (like he was in ECW). I don't think the fans would readily accept him as a heel, but who knows.

RVD could have some great matches with Guerrero, Kidman, etc.,

I think at this point and time in RVD's career the fans would accept anything new. I think most people are sick of seeing RVD battle BIG HOSS guy who can't get himself over, rookie who can't get himself over....world heavyweight champion that can't get himself over :shifty:

RVD was one of ECW's best heels, even though the crowd loved his attitude (after a while, anyway). I think he could do it again on another Heyman-written program.

They could do an angle where RVD is jealous of Guerrero's success (and even Cena's). He can talk about how they are "Vince's boys" and are only getting main-event pushes because of that. He can then talk about how the fans 'cheer him', not as much as they should.......due to his ECW background.

RVD then talks about Paul Heyman........the only guy in the world that knows how good he is.

RVD wasn't THAT good of a heel in ECW, it was more of his WWF association that guy him over as a heel then anything. The ECW fans would boo anything related to anything to the WWF at that time, and once that association was gone, Van Dam was a face and won the TV title for his 97 year reign.

Rob 03-02-2004 07:41 PM

Yeah but he was over like a mofo and when anyone is in that position, promoters are stupid not to capitalise on it.

I think the main thing with RVD though, is that the fans need to CARE about him again....in any shape or form.

If RVD turned heel unexpectedly (and aligned with Heyman on Smackdown), perhaps the fans' will be torn and heartbroken. They'll be confused. One of two things can occur.

1)The fans will cheer even louder for RVD.....persuading him that they still 'love him'.

2)They will 'boo' the piss out of him for turning on them.

Problem with that is if Van Dam did go to Smackdown, he wouldn't be close to the top heel with Brock and Kurt doing their thing. At most, he'd get a program with Eddie for a month or two, but then he'd be back to where he was, they'd probably just turn him face again after that. The biggest problem with Van Dam is and always will be they didn't pull the trigger on his push when they had the chance and now it's too late. It's nice to see that they actually went through with the Guerrero push and possibly the Benoit push and creating new main event guys which they definitely need if they plan on doing 14 ppvs a year.
