The back story to this I think goes like this:

The whole brawl for all contest was set up to make Dr Death look amazing and win the thing, unfortunately rather than working and booking the fights, they just treated them as shoots, which lead to this:

If you notice at the end, Bart makes gestures towards JR, basically saying I just knocked out your boy.

JR took exception to this as this in effect buried JR’s pet project and thus rather than giving Bart what could have been a decent push, they decided to bury him in a fight he had ZERO chance of winning:

The whole tournament could have been good, if they tried booking it, instead what happened was:

Dr Death looked like a pussy
3 or 4 guys got injured
The guy who ended up winning got buried because he wasn’t meant to win

Gunn knock everybody out except for Bob Holly. He beat Bradshaw in someting like 20 seconds in the final and then got destroyed by Butterbean.
