wtf? Help!!

For some reason there's some virus or something in my computer that is taking over all of the search engines on my comp. Like when I go to google or msn is says "best web search" and is some scummy second rate search engine. How can I get rid of this, I tried ad-aware but that did nothing.

sadio8 03-03-2004 08:33 PM

hhmmm whats the url of the search engine you are getting>?

Smitty 03-03-2004 08:37 PM

It still says www.google.com on the address bar, wtf.

samichna 03-03-2004 08:42 PM

samichna - whats url of your search engine problem :)

hhhmm check the bottom of the search engine that you get when u go to google.com Check the bottom for like terms and agreements and shit like that. See if it says anything about how to get rid of that 'search engine' as being your default search engine. Happened to me with a different search engine i went to the FAQ/terms of agreement at the bottom of the page. Said if i wanted to get rid of it i had to uninstall some software or somthin.... You install any software recently???

maybe this will help?

Norton Anit-virus scan. Thats what I'd use.

I couldn't fix it, so I did a selective restore on my computer. Great thing is that all of the programs and files on my computer stay there and the rest is restored, good stuff. :y:

Try using a different browser like Netscape 5.

go into the reg and change the default one to google, that way it can never be changed.

I just run Spysweeper on my computer. It gets rid of Ad-ware and Spy-ware, which is probaly what it is.

I would have run Spybot. That's better than Ad-Aware for browser/internet related spyware in my experience.

DegenerationY 03-24-2004 03:21 PM

where would i get spybot?

Triple A 03-24-2004 03:58 PM

That's what you have. I fixed it using the steps listed at that link on a few computers earlier this year.
