2/5. they used to be something special, but they really haven't been for a long time. Their more recent records kind of drag down the curve. Still, in a 20+ year catalogue, they've got some great shit.

Just don't ask me to rate a band that took twenty years to learn how to play a song live very high.

I'm a little confused about how general this question is. If you are asking about the new direction of Metallica, I'd say 1/5 because their new songs are shit compared what they have done before. Now they are just living off of the legendary name. But if you mean everything before they sold out such as the Black Album and Ride the lightening then definatly a 5/5. Personally I believe they helped change the meaning of "metal" music. But thats just my opinion

Why not just rank them overall? That would make the most sense.

1/5 Not my type of music anymore, but I liked them before. Never was a fan of more than a few of the really old songs tbh, cause I was never into old metal and still aren't. Mostly liked Black Album, Load and Reload.. with a few songs from other CDs. Now though, I really can't stand to hear any Metallica. I turn the station if a song of theirs ever comes on.

Also, I'd like them more, if they didn't effectively set the precedent for gay cookie monster vocals.

I don't listen to them, but I can't really deny the fact they've put out some phenomenal shit in the past. What they do now is pure crap, though.
