UEFA CUP FOURTH ROUND DRAW (with potential ties for Quarters and Semis)

Fourth round draw

1 CELTIC v Barcelona
2 Genclerbirligi v Valencia
3 Bordeaux v Club Bruges
4 NEWCASTLE v Real Mallorca
5 Auxerre v PSV Eindhoven
6 Inter Milan v Benfica
7 LIVERPOOL v Marseille
8 Villarreal v Roma

Quarter-final ties

1 Bordeaux/Club Bruges v Genclerbirligi/Valencia
2 Liverpool/Marseille v Inter Milan/Benfica
3 Celtic/Barcelona v Villarreal/Roma
4 Auxerre/PSV v Newcastle/Mallorca

Semi Final Ties

Auxerre/PSV/Newcastle/Mallorca vs Liverpool/Marseille/Inter Milan/Benfica
Celtic/Barcelona/Villarreal/Roma vs Bordeaux/Club Bruges/Genclerbirligi/Valencia

Tough tie for Celtic, I think Newcastle should go through, Liverpool's game is tough to call but I'd expect them to be Marseille

For me it'll probably be

Quarters

Bordeaux vs Valencia
Liverpool vs Inter Milan
Celtic vs Roma
PSV vs Newcastle

Semis

PSV vs Inter Milan
Valencia vs Roma

Danny Electric 03-04-2004 11:37 AM

As much as it pains me to say, I can see an all Italian final Inter v Roma. There are some hot teams in the UEFA cup this season. I'd love to see a Newcastle v Liverpool semi final though. :)

Wengerland 03-04-2004 12:30 PM

Quite a lot of good games there.I think Newcastle should get through to the semi's because none of the sides in their quarter of the draw look that threatening.I can see Liverpool getting to semi's to if they sort out their defense,Marseille could be tougher than expected but i could see them beating Inter.

Celtic/Barcelona is tough to call as both are in form right now,i'll go for Barca as unless they suffer a drastic loss of form then they'll win it imo.

Mr. Monday Morning 03-04-2004 02:23 PM

At this point I'd say Valencia or Roma for the whole thing

Dazz 03-04-2004 02:35 PM

I agree with MMM, when I get some money, I'm putting a tenner on Valencia, they have a piss easy run.

Mr. Monday Morning 03-04-2004 02:46 PM

Right now Valencia are actually favourites at 9/2

Roma 11/2 :wtf:

Can't understand that...I know Valencia are very strong but I would've said Roma would be a better bet...

Wengerland 03-04-2004 02:54 PM

Roma did only beat Gaziantaspor(sp?) 2-1 on aggregate though.Which isn't inspiring.

Dazz 03-04-2004 02:55 PM

Celtic/Barcelona/Villarreal/Roma vs Bordeaux/Club Bruges/Genclerbirligi/Valencia

Roma have to get past Barcelona, Valencia have to get past either Bordeyx or CLub Brugges

Wengerland 03-04-2004 03:03 PM

Barcelona have recently won away in Valencia and Deportivo,so thats why i think they'll win it.Valencia could struggle against Genclerbirligi, seeing as they beat Parma 4-0 over the 2 games.

Razor Rybek 03-04-2004 06:03 PM

I quite fancy Celtic to win the damn thing this year, call me crazy, but I just think with it being Larson's last year at the club, and maybe O'Neills aswell, They might just push that extra bit harder and do the business.

Granted they got a really tough tie against Barca, but if you've seen Barcalona play this season, you'll think they are beatable too. Ronaldinho has been exceptional for them and they are very very strong when going forward, but very dodgy at the back also. This season they have a case of the "United" when it comes to defending.

If they get past Barca, which I think they will, then they will probably face Roma, who have not been really impressive this year. Yes they have a super squad, capable of running through most teams on their day, but sodo Celtic really, when you wheigh it up.So it could be a very even match, won by the single away goal.

By that stage, the rest of the British teams will have crashed and burned and it'll be plain sailing for the boys from Glasgow

Rob 03-04-2004 07:59 PM

I think Celtic will get a result against Barcelona but I'm taking the underdog and going with PSV to win the lot. The Italian teams aren't as strong as they used to be and I think any team left in it is capable of beating them.

Quietly confident we can progress through to the next round - it's hard to imagine us playing any worse than in the last round and hopefully Bobby will give them a kick in the arse.

After that who knows on our day we could beat any of the teams I reckon but having our day is a pretty rare occurance at the moment - a Semi Final appearance wouldn't be so bad.

I have a soft spot for Inter but I fancy Valencia to go all the way.

Sin Harvest 03-05-2004 09:00 AM

As much as I want a British team to win the UEFA Cup, I'd be pleased if the Magpies went out.

What a crap match. Even though I'm a Liverpool fan the Celtic and Newcastle matches looked more exciting.
I still see us going through, we do better away from home.

Cactus Sid 03-11-2004 06:48 PM

What a sack of sh</>ite we are

packt up 03-12-2004 12:47 AM

4-1

That'll do.

packt up 03-12-2004 12:48 AM

Oh and congrats to Celtic. :)

How quickly did Newcastle score those four goals? I was in Varsity (a pub/bar in Sunderland), and they were losing 1-0. we must have been there 20 minutes or something and it was 4-1 to Newcaslte when I left! I could've been in there longer though, was quite pissed :)

packt up 03-12-2004 01:19 PM

Yeah it was well quick. 3 in 7 minutes I think. It must have been about 30 mins for all of them.

So your memory's not too bad when your pissed :y: :).

Mr. Monday Morning 03-12-2004 02:08 PM

That must be the first time Bramble's done something right

Danny Electric 03-12-2004 02:13 PM

Nice goal by Bramble.
Barca finishing with 9 men. :)
We had Marseille and then we just sat back, we played our best when Heskey came on in teh last few minutes. It's the only time we looked like we really wanted it.

Wengerland 03-12-2004 05:16 PM

Jonathan Pearce obviously hadn't done his homework, after the goal he was like "that's Baros' first goal since returning from injury" and then a few mintues later he says something like he got a scrappy goal at Leeds(:wtf:) but then i swear i head him say either at the end or while it was 1-0 that Liverpool lead from Baros' first goal since injury.

Rob 03-25-2004 06:13 PM

UP THE FU</>CKING JOCKS!!! :D

Well done Celtic. Barca are a bunch of crybaby cheating bastards and they got what they deserved. Villareal? Don't even bother showing up lads.

Rob 03-25-2004 06:15 PM

What was the Liverpool score?

I wonder how far Sunderland will get in the Uefa Cup next year.

Not as far as Millwall.

Cactus Sid 03-25-2004 06:40 PM

Disgraceful

Only Gerrard and Hamann deserved to wear the shirts tonight, Houllier made sh</>ite decision after sh</>ite decision, Biscan, don't get me started.

Its just too depressing to talk about, I don't have a clue how the board can justify having Houllier as manager anymore.

That said, congrats to Celtic, I was chuffed when they won, and they deserve to go all the way after the final last year.

Mr. Monday Morning 03-25-2004 06:44 PM

Assuming Valencia make it through I can't see them being stopped now

-edit-

It's down to

Bordeaux vs Valencia
PSV vs Newcastle
Villarreal vs Celtic
Inter vs Marseille
