Power save mode

I have a computer at work that I use soley to ship with UPS. Sometimes, usually on a monday, it goes into power save mode. The only way I can get out of this is to hold down the off button then turn it back on. Pressing buttons, moving the mouse ect doesnt' seem to do anything. Is there someway to get out of power save mode without turning the computer off then on?

This sis not helpful at all and totally unrelated, but the title reminds me of those old Powerwheels toy commercials for some weird reason.

Is it going into sleep mode or hibernation?

If it's sleep mode, if both the mouse and keyboard are run on USB you need to enable them to be able to wake on an action. I don't know how to do this off-hand, I just know it's an option in the device manager. Also, just pressing the on/off button SHOULD turn it on.

If it's in hibernation, you need to turn it on manually every time. Essentially hibernation saves the state to your hard drive and the computer completely shuts off.

Check the options under Power in Display Properties/Screen Saver. You might be able to change something.

What Operating System do you have?

If you're running Windows XP try this:

Go into Control Panel and select "Power Options". You should then get a dialogue box with various setting options for Monitor, Hard Disks and System Stand By.

You may use this to change your settings to something like:
Turn off Monitor: select "After 20 mins" - this will simply turn the monitor off after 20 mins but turn back on automatically on mouse movement or key press.
Turn off Hard Disks: select "Never" - that way computer will keep running.
System Standby: select "Never"

So i double clicked on the icon for My Computer and it went into power save. WTF...i should probably call ups and tell them to fix their computer.

Not sure if this will fix your problem but sounds like it might be on the same line: http://www.cnet.com/8301-13880_1-9827937-68.html
