The Black Album

Every song is good. Best produced album in a long time.

Thoughts?

Mike the Metal Ed 03-06-2004 09:25 PM

Yeah. Enter Sandman, Nothing Else Matters, The Unforgiven, Through the Never, Sad But True... great album.

Kane Knight 03-06-2004 09:25 PM

Best produced album in a long time?

Kris P Lettus 03-06-2004 09:26 PM

Truthfully, I think the production value on Phernology and Love Below were untouchable in recent memory.. Good album, but I've always been a Jay-Z fan so..

:-\..

Wait are we talking about a great album or an abomination released over 10 years later? :?:

Let me guess, you're one of those "RAP SUCKS!!1!" guys..

:nono:

It's funny, in all my years of being a music fan I've never heard a Hip Hop fan blindly talk shit about "rock".. With vice versa, you hear it often..

Weird..

asphyXy 03-06-2004 09:38 PM

The black album is overproduced garbage. It has a few good songs [Through The Never is great], but the vocals suck, and the overall feel of the album was commercial.

Kane Knight 03-06-2004 09:41 PM

The album's not really overproduced.

asphyXy 03-06-2004 09:43 PM

For a thrash metal band it is.

Kane Knight 03-06-2004 09:48 PM

If a thrash metal band is produced at all, it's called a miracle.

don't worry, they went back to their roots with ST Anger.

Kane Knight 03-06-2004 09:48 PM

:)

DaveWadding 03-06-2004 09:57 PM

Jay-Z's Black Album rules.

You've never read Teletext on a the BBC then, some guy was saying that Rap takes a certain kind of mastery, where as Rock music is talentless, before saying that guitar's "practically play themselves"

What's the great album written ten years before the Black Album? :?:

Krow 03-06-2004 10:28 PM

Bob Rock should be shot.

...Yeah, as nothing involving Ulrich can actually be be considered great.

R U INSAN? LARZ ROOLZ FAGIT!

I have to go with asphyXy, though. Pre-Justice Metallica was good.

Master of Puppets is overrated garbage. Ride the Lightning was the beginning of their downfall. Justice wasn't even a thrash album, but it does have its moments [Shortest Straw].

Kane Knight 03-06-2004 11:00 PM

You know what's a really overproduced album?

Frank Black--Dog in the sand.

Live to 4-track.

asphyXy 03-06-2004 11:14 PM

Darkthrone's Transilvanian Hunger is overproduced. This is the equipment used to record Transilvanian Hunger:

Random four piece studio drumset
A guitar
A bass
One microphone [vocals and drums]
Cheap four track pocket studio

Silent 03-06-2004 11:24 PM

Metallica probably put more work in producing St. Anger then every other album they have made. I don't think it's possible to sound that shitty after playing music for that long.

asphyXy 03-06-2004 11:31 PM

Oh, right. St. Anger exists. Haha.

Yeah, I was just taking a shot because it's funny as Hell that something that was that "overproduced" could possibly sound that shitty.

Usually, when you overproduce something, you at least improve the sound...Even if the m,usic suffers as a result.

"These songs are long, and there are fast parts, so that automatically means that they're good"- St. Anger parody :y:

:D I saw that, it was by some guy called "G-Units Biggest Fan" or something. Anyway, that teletext music service pretty much sucks ass, the Channel 4 one is much better (p350). I have no idea what the people are talking about on their letters page, but at least its more intelligent.

The Mask 03-07-2004 09:11 AM

The black album is the most overrated album ever. Bob Rock needs to die.

That the one where the "Snare" drum is a folding chair?

I don't remember the lyrics, but that was funny as shit.

 The closest he's prolly ever come to a guitar is sampling one...

I'm not gonna say that rap is easy to do, but I've produced beats and played instuments, and the latter is MUCH harder.

Having been in rock bands since I was 12, and having lived through the Tupac/MTV-craze that made rap part of pop culture, I can easily say that a TON of rap fan trash rock.

Oh, come on...MOST overrated?

There's gotta be more overrated albums...

...Though I can't think of one...

the black album is the fifth best metalica album, or the third worst, whichever.

1 - Kill 'Em All
2 - Ride The Lightning
3 - And Justice For All

I have been a big Metallica fan for a long time. Even though now there music isnt the same as it used to be I still stick with them. Black Album was the beginning of them getting a little weak. Dont get me wrong it was a good album. I loved it but they have had better. Im a big fan of Kill em All myself. The only thing that makes the Black Album seem so great to most people is that no one really new Metallica untill they put out the black album. when this one came out they were getting fans from everywhere. The one thing that makes me mad about the album though is that most fans that loved this CD seem to think it was Metallica's first CD.
