ROH "Man Up" on ppv starting this Fri.

ROH "Man Up" debuts on pay-per-view tomorrow on iN DEMAND, The DISH Network and TVN cable systems. It will feature the Ladder War so dangerous, so death-defying and so insane that ROH has BANNED this match from ever happening again. Some esteemed critics have already seen an advanced screening and here is what they had to say about ROH "Man Up" on PPV:

"I'd go out of my way to see the ROH PPV on Friday. I got a tape of it and it's a strong candidate for best major show of the year." - Dave Meltzer,
http://www.wrestlingobserver.com/wo/news/headlines/default.asp?aID=21438

"ROH put its best foot forward here. It was easily the strongest of their PPV efforts thus far." - Mike Johnson, http://www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.asp?id=27853&p=1

"Recommendation: (10.0) This is the best PPV I’ve seen this year. I thought “Driven,” ROH’s last PPV, deserved a 10.0 rating, but this PPV is even better, as ROH found a way to top themselves once again." - Sean Radican, PWtorch.com

WTF is a ladder war?

What Would Kevin Do? 11-29-2007 01:32 AM

Just the tag team ladder match between the Briscoes and Steen/Genrico that is apparently insane. Some people are reviewing it (PWTorch included) as the best ladder match they've ever seen. Probably has a million and a half "insane" spots, and unneeded risks, but hey.

Mr. Nerfect 11-29-2007 03:53 AM

A Ladder War is just the name given to their Ladder Match. It was the big blowoff to their feud, and the first time ROH had held an actual Ladder Match.

Funky Fly 11-29-2007 04:04 AM

Why give it a special name? To the uninformed it sounds like a ladder match with a twist (RPGs and AK-47s suspended from the ceiling? :?: )

I am not in huge support of it, but it kind of made sense at the time. The feud was red-hot, and one of the best things going in Ring of Honor. It wasn't really so much described as "A Ladder War Match" as a "Ladder War." It was like an unofficial nickname, if that makes sense. Like how the WWE might advertise a "Battle of the Giants" between two big guys.

Funky Fly 11-29-2007 04:12 AM

I dunno, man... RPGs hanging from the ceiling sounds pretty badass.

Dave Youell 11-29-2007 04:13 AM

Is this the show when Jacobs comes out and has a shower from one of the Briscoes?

What Would Kevin Do? 11-29-2007 04:15 AM

What Alienoid said. "Ladder War" isn't a stipulation. It's just a nickname the match took on. Still, the way the quote above makes it sound, it sounds like a specific match type.

I wonder how long the "ban" on ladder matches will last... ROH is usually pretty good on gimmick matches, seeing as they've only had a handful of cage matches. ROH loves to keep their gimmick matches rare, and only use them to end big feuds.

What Would Kevin Do? 11-29-2007 04:15 AM

Yep.

They're cutting that out of the end of the show though.

I've always wanted to see a Street Fight, between say, Triple H and Stevie Richards, where Triple H is standing in the ring all powerful and angry, and JR and King talk about how poor Stevie is going to get killed. Then Stevie enters...and has an RPG! Come on, tell me it would not at least be a mark out moment to see Triple H start pissing himself, and security come out and try and confiscate Stevie's weapon in a match that is supposedly no disqualification.

You could turn it into an angle where Triple H goes after the guy for embarrassing him, and Stevie complains to the board for not allowing real no disqualification matches. A segment where Stevie goes through a list of possible punishments for his opponent ("Running them over with a car? Bear traps? Land mines? Sea mines? Depth charges? Sharks? Lasers? Laser pointers? Hand grenades? Hand guns? Neurotoxins? Andy Warhol movies? Blue Meanie? Howard Finkel? An Iron Maiden? Styx?") and each one being met with a "No" by the board would be fucking classic.

Why?

Granted from what I've heard it's pretty graphic, but I want to see it!

What Would Kevin Do? 11-29-2007 08:23 AM

From what I've read, they show part, but not the actual hanging.

I see two reasons for this.

This is ROH's third ppv, and they're trying to push the "wrestling" aspect of ROH. While this type of thing is rare in general for ROH, to show it on their 3rd ppv may make it seem like it's a more common type of thing.

Two, they can stick it on the DVD, along with the other extra content and try to use it as a selling point.

What Would Kevin Do? 11-29-2007 08:29 AM

Personally, I love the angle, but ROH shot themself in the foot doing this angle at the same time they're trying to market themselves on PPV as the "WRESTLING" alternative. They need to slowly insert "storylines" into the ppvs (not ones as gimmicky as wwe), but the AOTF one is way too difficult to convey on ppv, and really doesn't fit the niche they're trying to market the ppvs to.

CSL 11-29-2007 12:07 PM

He ruined that lovely jacket! They should cut it.

Innovator 11-29-2007 12:10 PM

TBH, I want to see Danielson/Mori more than the ladder match

What Would Kevin Do? 11-29-2007 03:41 PM

Danielson Vs Mori should be good. I've heard the Manhattan Mayhem match is better. I like where they're going with the feud though. Especially with their last match (Danielson throws everything at Mori, but he can't be him, so he repeatedly stomps him between the legs and the ref DQs him.)

Indifferent Clox 11-29-2007 03:57 PM

Yeah I downloaded it for that match. but i watched the whole thing manhattan mayhem wasn't a bad show

St. Jimmy 11-29-2007 04:35 PM

Major compared to what? A backyard fed? Bite my ass.

IC Champion 11-29-2007 04:49 PM

Wait, when was this PPV recorded?

Indifferent Clox 11-29-2007 05:19 PM

Dude it's as big as TNA was 5 years ago. It makes quite a bit of money. They have major guys going there at times, and the biggest names of Japan. Some big names went there. Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, CM Punk. They have quality matches in all styles not just extremely technical style.

IC Champion 11-29-2007 05:22 PM

RoH is a distant third, as far as major promotions go.

loopydate 11-29-2007 06:59 PM

They're a TV deal away from being ECW in the mid-'90s. ECW was always a distant third, too.

BigDaddyCool 11-29-2007 07:06 PM

Who cares?

There're huge gaps between all top 3. WWE is miles ahead of TNA, TNA is far ahead of ROH, then ROH is ahead of every other US indy out there

Yes,because how could anyone EVER think an ROH ppv could be better than those gems TNA and WWE kick out?

And that's the way it'll more likely than not stay. I'm pretty sure the only way that'll change is if TNA fucks up bad enough in the long run to go under.

:shifty: ...Isn't that at least somewhat likely to happen, though?

Mooияakeя™ 11-30-2007 09:56 AM

Rep points to anyone who can tell me where to see thsi thing on the interwebz cos I doubt UK TV has heard of anything other than TNA and WWE (unless u got that TWC channel thing, which, tbh is a mixed bunch of crap).

BigDaddyCool 11-30-2007 10:05 AM

Moonraker, you might try RoH.com. Just a thought.

.44 Magdalene 11-30-2007 10:14 AM

And probably YouTube. If not now, then later, I'm sure.

What Would Kevin Do? 11-30-2007 12:27 PM

pwtorrents will have it.

It'll probably be posted on VEOH.

OK, thought taken on board, but I don't get it?!?!?!

http://www.roh.com/

What Would Kevin Do? 12-03-2007 12:06 AM

rohwrestling.com is the actual address.

They do have some matches up in the media section of the site, but nothing to write home about. The video wires do show clips of matches though.

RGWhat316 12-04-2007 01:59 AM

I'll more than likely order it, but I'm a little disappointed they will not be airing the whole Project 161 segment. But I guess if I want to see the whole thing, i'm willing to buy the dvd just to see the hanging and all of the blood dripping down on Jimmy.
