Flashing adapter light, no charge

I was using my laptop the other night when the light on the adapter/charger pack started flashing and the computer signaled that the charger was unplugged (it wasn't)

The battery died and since then I haven't been able to charge it/turn it back on. Every time I plug the lead into the computer, the light flashes.

I bought a new adapter/charger pack and the same thing happened (flashing light) Thought it may have been the laptop's battery so I took that out and tried running it from just the mains power. Same thing, flashing light.

Suggestions anybody? :-\

Take it to a shop and have it looked at. Or if you have a buddy who knows pc hardware, let him look at it.
