Would you be willing

To miss Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 for a really nice 2010 version?

Xero 12-13-2007 11:43 PM

I'll be willing to miss every one in the series now that I have FPR.

QFT. All I need is FPR and King of Colleseum II and I honestly don't think I need to play another wrestling game ever. Unless it's a sequel of the above mentioned.

D Mac 12-14-2007 01:20 AM

How about we have a nice 2009 version?

Funky Fly 12-14-2007 01:58 AM

Well, I'm skipping 08 for sure. I'm not gonna support a game if it's crap.

What he said.

As much as I want custom entrance themes, this is a game that's one step forward, five steps back. Fuck SVR.

Xero 12-14-2007 11:05 AM

I honestly don't get why custom themes were so much of a deal breaker for people. "OMG I GET 2 HEAR 1 MINUTE OF MUSIC PER MATCH!!1!1!"

Maybe if they didn't implement that they could have spent a bit more time working on, I don't know, the game itself?

But oh no! People want shitty bells and whistles that mean jack shit. Meanwhile you're lagging online and are walking with a stick up your ass.

Hey Xero: Have you noticed that the complaints you have are present in pretty much all of the games that didn't have custom themes in them?

i just hate the logic that if they didn't work on custom themes, that everything (or even one substantial thing) would be different. IT wouldn't, really. Making the characters look better, or online better would take substantially more effort than would have been diverted away for custom entrances.

The fact is, they got lazy. With fewer wrestlers, a shitty roster, a crappy new "style" system, and more of the same old, it should be pretty obvious that the notion that they somehow could have actually improved significant qualities of the game with that effort is incredibly absurd.

Custom themes shouldn't really even be an issue. You know when games started having custom soundtracks? 2001 when the original Xbox debuted. Number of WWE games that have already featured custom soundtracks? 2. Amount of difficulty in implemementing what is really a hardware feature anyway? None. And there shouldn't be any difficulty, since they've done it before.

They fucked up because they are lazy and don't listen to fans. But they'll get away with it because so many of you guys ran out and bought it anyway.

Yeah, they made a lazy, shitty game that will appeal to a lot of people only because it's the new game. They knew they could get away with it, so they did it. Any accusations that custom entrance themes are even remotely an issue are woefully oblivious.

Plus, I mean, some of the best XBox abd 360 games have supported custom soundtracks, even back before it was one of THE things.

Dorkchop 12-14-2007 09:57 PM

I'd be willing to wait until 2013 for a good Smackdown game. I haven't enjoyed once since HCTP.

Fignuts 12-14-2007 09:59 PM

I will echo the statements about FPR, and never needing smackdown ever again.

Kane Knight 12-14-2007 11:44 PM

Eh. I'm not as big on FPW as I could be. I don't like the timing system as much. I still own several of the handheld FPWs, but it feels dated in many ways. I know customisation is cool, but I'd rather have DoR 3 or a good Smackdown.

Fignuts 12-14-2007 11:48 PM

Despite its very devoted cult following, its not for everyone. KOC is a much deeper, and richer, 3-d version of firepo. Made by the same company too. My ideal game would be to combine KOC's gameplay and default wrestler customization, firepro's match customization and deep roster, and smackdown's visuals.

Praying that KOC 3 gets made and isn't region locked.

Fignuts 12-14-2007 11:52 PM

I would honestly buy a Jap PS3 for KOC 3. And I've never thrown out the "I'd buy this system just for that game" line before, but the series is just that good. Only problems are a lack of match types, limit of 4 wrestlers on screen at once, and you cant edit features of the head in edit(caw) mode. They're all premade heads like firepro. But these are all problems on a ps2 version. I think the match type and wrestler limit can be solved just with more power on the ps3.

I've heard good things about KoC. Same grapple engine, or no?

Fignuts 12-15-2007 12:24 AM

Its timing based like firepro, but you initiate the grapple by pressing R1 and a face button unlike firepro. It has a clutch system which is kind of like smackdown where starting a grapple while pressing a different face button leads to a different grouping of moves. But unlike smackdown where it leads to a set of different lockups, it goes right into the move types. For example if you press R1 and x he'll set up for a vertical suplex. And from there, its timing based. When they bend their knees thats when you hit one of the face buttons. Like firepro, each button is a different strength and you have to hit weaker moves earlier. What move types a wrestler has depends on who he is. One wrester may have the vertical suplex type, while another might have a chokeslam type. Point is, it allows for more moves per wrestler than any other wrestling game. Which is good, because it has more moves than any other wrestling game. And the reversals. Ooooooh dear lord the reversals. Had it for two years and I still occasionaly see a new one.

Fignuts 12-15-2007 12:30 AM

I also love the finisher system. Its called the powerball system.(insert obligatory KK homosexual innuendo here) The way it works is a wrestler has any number of moves assigned as a powerball move. I'm not sure, but I think you can assign around ten moves as a powerball. May even be limitless. Dunno, but the point is, in the match, you only get 3-5 chances to use them depending on which wrestler you pick. Once they're used, thats it. No building up a meter to get it back. You CAN get it back by taunting after getting up from a 2.999 count, but its very hard to do. Oly done it once. This system adds a lot of strategy to the mix, as like all strong moves they are hard to hit early on, but not impossible.

Funky Fly 12-15-2007 12:57 AM

Sexy. They need to port that shit over here.

Fignuts 12-15-2007 02:23 AM

Won't happen. At least not the existing games. The game has the actual liscense for AJPW, NJPW, NOAH, ZERO-ONE, and World Japan. But now NJPW and AJPW liscences belong to different companies, so porting it would be a legal clusterfuck.

Funky Fly 12-15-2007 02:33 AM

Fuck, they should just Fire Proify it and make everyone into knockoffs.

Fignuts 12-15-2007 03:24 AM

Thats what people are hoping for, is a NOAH/DragonGate liscensed game with everyone else as edit templates. They had a ton of people as edit templates in the previous games. Edit templates are like premade samples. You unlock the charcters appearance moveset, logic and everything, then go to edit mode and select it and bam, you're done. Takes like 2 minutes. They had hayabusa, hogan, Lesnar, Flair, Rampage Jackson, etc. over 100 I think, in the second game.

Fignuts 12-15-2007 03:28 AM

In fact this site has pics of the entire roster, including the pre-set wrestler templates.

Fucking videogames never coming stateside due to licensing.

It's just like in Kane Knight's Super Robot Taisen thread.

Did you know there is a DBZ/One Piece/Naruto crossover fighter in Japan? We are never gonna see that shit. :'(

Can't say I'm heartbroken about not playing a crossover between DBZ and Naruto, but they get a fair share of shit we're not gonna see over here.
