Sweeney Todd

So I just got back from seeing Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and it's fucking awesome. Seriously. The cast is phenomenal, the music is all really good, and the style is Tim Burton at his Tim-Burton-est. I was really worried that they'd tone down the gore for the movie, but if anything, it's even bloodier than the stage show.

Even if you don't like musicals, it's worth checking out, because it's one hell of an entertaining flick.

Anyone else seen it yet?

Depp should try branching out a bit.

Lock Jaw 12-22-2007 10:48 PM

I'm going to go ahead and initially take this as sarcasm.

...assuming it's not though, Johnny Depp has been a marine, a pirate, Willy Wonka, a man with scissors for hands, Hunter S. Thompson, Ichabod Crane, a CIA agent, and now a serial murdering barber.

The only branching out he has left to do would be to play a woman, and that doesn't generally HELP your career unless your Dustin Hoffman.

Nowhere Man 12-24-2007 04:20 PM

Well, he did plenty of cross-dressing in Ed Wood, so I guess you could say he's played a woman already.

I do get what Zen is saying, though. Depp does tend to play somewhat creepy roles. He's a very solid character actor, but rarely does anything in a more realistic vein.

Still loved the movie, though.

Saw this today.

Wild.

I didn't know anything about this movie when I went to see it, including that it was a musical. But holy shit I loved this movie.

loopydate 12-29-2007 09:37 PM

Just got back. SUCH a great flick. Anything Alan Rickman is in is going to be good, so I had no doubt it would be. But still, I had a blast.

Skippord 12-31-2007 06:10 PM

Pretty sweet movie, I am weirdly attracted to Helena Bonham Carter

gatoconbotas 01-01-2008 11:36 AM

I'm attracted to Helena too. Odd.

Anyway...I enjoyed this movie. I'm not a huge Tim Burton fan, but he did very well with this movie. I despise Stephen Sondheim musicals (nothing against him really, except that he does a lot of the same music throughout and I was in a musical written by Sondheim that sucked..our fault, really, but still, I am baised now) but it was still good either way.

I laughed at quite a bit, to be honest, especially at the gore. I thought it was brilliant.
I also didn't know much about it comming in. I knew he killed people, and why, but that's it. I hadn't heard the music before, it's one of the few shows I haven't seen on Broadway, I didn't know a lot.

It was good. Very good.
I'd pay to see it again,to be honest.

Heros Welcome 01-05-2008 02:28 PM

Saw it last night. Going in I was very excited to see it, and coming out I was amazed about how great it actually was. Depp and Burton have done it again! I would def give another 10$ to see it again.

Mr. Pierre 01-05-2008 02:31 PM

It was awesome :y:

Blitz 01-08-2008 09:14 PM

Saw it tonight. Loved it.

KingofOldSchool 01-08-2008 09:22 PM

Can't go see it because the moronic movie theaters here aren't showing it, yet they feel like showing Dewey Cox on two screens is a smart decision.

I loved Walk Hard, but two screens is a horrible decision for a box office bomb.

Mr Regal 01-11-2008 11:15 AM

Saw the trailer for this last night.

Was very underwhelmed. I love Tim Burton movies though and will see it thanks to your glowing reviews.

KingofOldSchool 01-11-2008 04:56 PM

Saw it last night, the ending pissed me off.

But I saw the greatest movie poster of all time while I was there.

The Gold Standard 01-16-2008 09:21 PM

I did not know too much background about this movie when I saw it, but once it came on it was gold from beginning to end. Right now I do not know if there is a better movie out there to see.
