There Will Be Blood

Just saw this yesterday, really freakin good movie.

Newest movie from Paul Thomas Anderson, I LOVE HIM. He directed/wrote Boogie Nights, Punch-Drunk Love, Magnolia, etc.

Daniel Day Lewis is freaking incredible in this movie. Like amazing, I don't know. Definitely see him winning the Oscar for this one. It's like 3 hours long apparently but it didn't feel like it at all. I was really immersed throughout the entire movie. It's loosely based on the novel "Oil!" by Upton Sinclair.

ClockShot 01-05-2008 03:38 PM

Damn you. I'm trying to see this also. But I can't find a theatre in my area playing it.

Mr. Pierre 01-05-2008 05:38 PM

I saw the preview when I saw No Country For Old Men, and at first I was like "WTF?" and then the story seemed more clear by the end of the trailer.

It looks interesting and I wouldn't mind giving it a look. Also, I didn't know it was out already, I thought it would have a wide release.

Blitz 01-06-2008 02:50 AM

Yeah really wanna check this out.

Triple A 01-06-2008 10:17 PM

I think it is only playing in limited release right now, like last week it was only playing around here in New York City, but I saw it the other night in my neck of the woods.

Boondock Saint 01-06-2008 11:34 PM

Heard nothing but amazing things about this. Will check it out soon.

ClockShot 01-25-2008 06:19 PM

Finally got around to my area and saw it after work. Awesome. Daniel-Day Lewis was awesome in that movie. So was that kid whose parents are shut out from the world.

ct2k 01-25-2008 07:05 PM

Almost every performance DDL has ever made has been astoundingly good. Heard nothing but good about this movie too:y:

Champion of Europa 01-26-2008 03:23 AM

wait did I say sucks? I meant rocks!

DrA 01-26-2008 11:11 PM

I hate to pull a KingofOldSchool and be an asshole, but:

I didn't really like it.

The movie was two and a half hours long and it felt as if nothing had happened throughout that whole time. There really wasn't any character development, and I just felt that either the screenplay was lackluster or the film was poorly edited. It kinda felt like Paul Thomas Anderson was trying too hard to make a Citizen Kane.

What is the deal with movies having these half-assed endings these days? It doesn't seem to matter, as people just seem to eat it up and label it as wonderul no matter what.

DrA 01-26-2008 11:12 PM

On a side note, they filmed this movie in Alpine, Texas, where some of my relatives live, and my aunt, a massage therapist, got to massage Daniel Day Lewis's kids.

Blue Demon 01-26-2008 11:22 PM

I'm going to see this Tuesday and I can't wait.

It was def not a traditional movie in terms of character development and the ending and all that.

I loved it though. Something about it, I dont' know what. Every part of the movie, I enjoyed. Like I wanted to see what would happen next in every scene. The acting was amazing. Daniel Day Lewis's character was very well developed I thought. I cared about his character a LOT, that is what made the movie so good for me I think. I think his performance had a lot to do with that.

And the ending... I don't know... it was wrapped up. Just like No Country for Old Men. It was finished. I wouldn't call them half assed endings. I don't like when movies suck dick throughout and are just leading up to a huge ending. This movie was good throughout and everything that needed to be resolved was resolved earlier. They didn't wait til the end.

That just sounds dirty.

YOUR Hero 01-27-2008 11:48 AM

good dirty?

Champion of Europa 02-02-2008 11:32 PM

So amazing.

I've seen it twice in two days, and I think I'm taking some friends to see it tomorrow.

Blue Demon 02-06-2008 03:17 PM

I saw it and it was really good, but probably could've done with being a half hour shorter as some of the sub plots probably could've been cut.

loopydate 02-06-2008 06:48 PM

I think I'm going to see this on Friday.

FakeLaser 02-06-2008 09:22 PM

I still want to see this but it's not playing anywhere.

Champion of Europa 02-06-2008 10:01 PM

It should continue to expand to theaters because of Oscar noms. My theater in shitty ass Seymour, Indiana is getting it on Friday.

loopydate 02-08-2008 08:45 PM

Honestly, I was pretty disappointed. DDL was fantastic, and Paul Dano gave a really good performance, too, but... nothing really happened. It's sort of the same problem I have with Citizen Kane. The performances are great, it's shot incredibly well, but... what was the plot? Sociopath gets rich, soul decays, fights a priest, bad things happen...

That said, the performances WERE great, and it WAS shot very well. I was just expecting more from the story, I guess. Of the three Best Picture noms I've seen (along with No Country and Juno), it ranks third for me at this point.

Seriously? Juno better than There Will Be Blood? That's madness.

loopydate 02-09-2008 09:13 PM

I had more fun watching Juno.

Boomer 02-09-2008 09:51 PM

I want to seeeeeee it. I trust Jonny Greenwood did an amazing job with the soundtrack.

Indifferent Clox 02-10-2008 02:16 AM

I have the soundtrack and a link above.

GREAT SOUNDTRACK.

Stickman 02-11-2008 02:01 PM

It was a great movie but I was slightly let down by the ending.

Azriel 02-15-2008 06:07 PM

Daniel Day Lewis could probably read the phone book and still be nominated for an Oscar. If he doesn't win the Academy Award for this, then I'll boycott the Oscars forever.

Downunder 03-19-2008 04:02 AM

There will be Blood

I have tried 3 times to watch this movie and each time I have fallen asleep.

WHAT!?

Jura 03-19-2008 05:48 AM

lol Same here. There was hype for this movie but I fell asleep half-way plus the audio was out of sync on the second part of it so I just went ahead and deleted it.

El Vaquero de Infierno 03-19-2008 11:38 AM

It's because you're a coffin dodger, Wunder-Nunder. Don't be all down, it's just a sad reality of life... Except for the eternally young like myself.

Blitz 03-19-2008 01:11 PM

I liked it. Also, think me and jura downloaded the same copy.

Stickman 03-19-2008 03:44 PM

This reminds me of my experience watching the Matrix.

Downunder 03-19-2008 04:31 PM

The copy I have is perfect, iI just can't get into it.

Admitidly every time I put it on it's after a few beers and late at night, but it's just so fucking slow I give up and fall asleep.

Jordan 03-19-2008 07:00 PM

One of the best movies I have ever seen, you guys are crazy. Give it another chance when your not tired.

Jura 03-19-2008 07:12 PM

It's a good movie to fall asleep to though.
