I think you're really doing yourself a disservice by just handing us the SparkNotes version of your story rather than the story itself (and putting it in a TV/Movie Forum before knowing if the Writing Forum would be cleared) Right now this thing reads more like a homework assignment rather than a story.

Also, flat-out admitting where a lot of the ideas are pulled from probably isn't a good idea. Save the trivia stuff for if people ask about it.

Honestly, it doesn't sound like it would be all that bad, but only we're able to read the story itself and not just have you talk about it.

It'll be hailed as derivative and unoriginal anyway, so why not be up front about what he ripped off?
