I just got a DS, and I've been trying to hook it up online and it won't acknowledge my router at all. I have a netgear wireless and when I scan for a connection it never picks anything up, and I've tried puting all the details in manually like the WEP and IP address and all that and it still won't pick up the connection. Just keeps popping up with error 51099. Any ideas? Would be much appreciated.

Error Code: 51099
The only access point within range of your Nintendo DS is not configured or is not compatible with the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (such as those found in many Hotspots).
Where are you trying to connect from?

1. Wireless Home Router (please scroll down)

Using a router:

1. Please make sure that your router is not on our list of incompatible routers. Click here to view the list and locate your router (if available). If it is listed as ?not compatible,? then it appears your router will not work with the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Consult the compatibility chart for recommended routers, or consider purchasing a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector. If your router is not listed as being incompatible, please proceed to step #2.
2. Ensure your router has the latest firmware installed. Visit your router manufacturer?s website and look for any updated firmware that may be available (these are typically found under ?downloads? or by searching for your particular model number). Contact your router manufacturer for additional assistance.
3. Make sure that your network?s name (SSID) matches exactly to what you have entered in the Nintendo DS.
   1. Log in to your router using the default IP (consult the router?s owner?s manual for assistance).
   2. Look for the section for SSID (typically in the ?wireless settings? area).
   3. After you find the SSID (network name), verify in the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings of your Nintendo DS that the SSID is appearing exactly as listed in your router. This includes making sure capitalization, spaces, or special characters match exactly.
4. Check Nintendo?s router info for special notes, if available, for your router.

   2. Use the drop-down box on the left to select, if available, your router manufacturer.
   3. Click on your router?s model number, if available.
   4. Read any ?special notes? at the top of the router?s page. Many issues can be solved by changing such things as the Transmission Rate.
5. Your router may not be assigning an IP address to the Nintendo DS. Try manually assigning an IP address to your Nintendo DS.
   1. The first thing you?ll need to do is find out what IP address your router is using. To do this:
      1. Click the "Start" button in the lower left-hand corner of your computer.
      2. Click "Run."
      3. Type "cmd" into the box and press Enter.
      4. Type "IPCONFIG/ALL" and press Enter. The IP address displayed of the PC will be displayed. The IP address you going to assign to the Nintendo DS must be 10 digits higher than the PC?s. (e.g., 192.168.1.100 becomes 192.168.1.110)
   2. You will now need to manually assign this new IP address to your Nintendo DS. For step-by-step instructions on how to do this, please click here.

Using a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector:

• Does the Blue Wi-Fi registration tool icon appear in the system tray of your PC (typically this is found in the bottom right-hand corner of your computer screen, near the clock)?
  1. Yes. If the connector has been inserted very recently, it may take several moments for it to establish a connection. Retry.
  2. Yes. If the USB Connector is inserted directly into the PC, trying attaching the plastic extension cable that came with your USB Connector. Getting some distance between the PC and the USB Connector may help the signal strength.
  3. No. Is the software installed? Is the USB connector inserted? Restart the PC, and if it still does not appear, we recommend uninstalling the software and installing the latest version. Click here to get the latest software for the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector.
  4. Yes, but it?s gray. Is the USB connector inserted? Right-click the registration tool icon and choose to run the registration tool. If it does not respond, restart the PC. Connecting from a non-partnered Hotspot:

• The access point at the Hotspot may not be compatible with the Nintendo DS. Ensure the Hotspot location does not require an internet browser to setup an account, accept a use agreement, or enter a password before accessing their Wi-Fi service. If the location requires any of these items, you will not be able to connect to the Nintendo WFC.
• Try another Hotspot. To search for known Hotspots in your area, click here.

Hi, not show if i'm reading right but somewhere on the internet it said if you don't have a router you can use an usb wifi connection to connect your ds to your boardband connection. does anyone know if this is true and it so, can any wifi connection work or does it have to be the nintendo one.

tryed your advise but when i tell the ds to connect to the usb connecter, it fails. All i want to do it post my score for the touchmaster game, can't believe i'm top on one of the games. it would be cool to see my name at number 1. is there any other way of posting your scores on-line

I though it only connected specifically with the Nintendo Wifi Dongle.

I could be wrong. I use a router.
