Set changes

There are rumours that the WWE will be changing the RAW and ECW sets to coincide with their move to HD. Personally, I am so glad to hear about this. SmackDown! could use a change, too.

Just fucking give all their sets a make-over. They're all pretty horrible right now, if you ask me. RAW just needs freshening up, ECW is no longer the old-school ECW knock-off and its own brand, and SmackDown! also needs to be refreshed. Hint: Lose the big fist.

Volare 01-11-2008 07:36 PM

Agreed on the fist. If they wanna make ECW look like smackdown...oh wait that's right...it will NEVER look like smackdown, cause ECW has Shelton!

JT 01-11-2008 09:46 PM

Meh, how much can they really do with the ECW set?

Technically ECW is on the same tapping as Smackdown which already has a huge set. Unless they want to place up two large sets at the same show, I don't think anything impressive is coming out of this.

As for RAW, I thought their last design was horrible. I'm actually just finally liking it because they added some extra stuff to the sides to give it more feel. I think if they change it again, they're just gonna fuck it up.

The Optimist 01-11-2008 09:50 PM

I like.

Corkscrewed 01-12-2008 07:13 PM

Needs more cowbell.

Shaggy 01-12-2008 07:22 PM

Im curious if it will be a huge change or just some minor change. I remember last time they had a set change it was just a minor thing.

I also wonder if this means new theme music for the show.

Kane Knight 01-12-2008 09:13 PM

They really should update and/or replace all the sets.

Crossrine 01-12-2008 09:22 PM

Will it really make a difference for ECW or Smackdown? I mean its like wrapping a turd with gold foil, its still a turd you know...

Will people need a new T.V. or what how does the H.D. thing work?

Must you rub it in :(

Kane Knight 01-12-2008 09:27 PM

But to repeat:

If you want to "enjoy" pro wrestling in HD, you need an HD TV and an HD receiver. If you don't have an HD TV, you can still "enjoy" pro wrestling in standard def.

Yes. :naughty:

Xero 01-12-2008 09:58 PM

So, are they going to be doing letterbox for the SD broadcasts or clipped?

Well, the ECW set is currently nothing. Like seriously, it's a doorway and a small screen above it. If they made the SmackDown! set a little tidier, then they could come up with something beneficial for both ECW and SmackDown!. It'd be very TNA-ish, but part of me thinks that they could get away with a combined set for ECW and SmackDown! (with maybe a few changes like colour of the lights, logos, etc.) seeing as ECW and SmackDown! have a talent exchange thing going on.

ECW Superstars can have one entrance, and SmackDown! Superstars can have another. Or something like that. Something simple would be great for SmackDown!, and a massive improvement for ECW.

Mr. Nerfect 01-12-2008 10:49 PM

I've said this before, but I think SmackDown! needs to lose the blue theme. Maybe not entirely, but I don't like the blue lights over the audience during the shows, and I don't like the blue pyros at the beginning. It seems to "cooling," when the atmosphere should be getting the fans warmed up.

RVDmark 01-12-2008 11:54 PM

I personally think the raw set could be smaller, its got so big now that it dwarfs the wrestlers in certain camera shots. The only problem is it doesn't have the impressiveness that a large set such as WM has, I think it detracts from the wrestlers.

I think they could design 2 sets for smackdown / ecw that look quite different. If they thought about it they could use a base stage and then add different items for the different shows. Making 1 stage look completely different isn't that hard as long as its designed right. They should have more stuff in the stage that moves too, like when the ramp went up at WM22. Maybe different entrances, like 6 of em , just to rip a little bit on TNA.

Seriously, the fist is cool, it should stay in some capacity.

Two-shay.

I wouldn't mind it if the SmackDown! set was paid and supported for by MVP. Have all these little features around it that don't have much use besides being used for MVP's entrance.

The show took its name from one of The Rock's catchphrases, so why can't the set be used to make MVP look like a star?

Honestly, I think it would be nice if there were some variables in the set. Entrances are by and large the same these days, and the WWE could benefit by switching it up.

Mr. Nerfect 01-16-2008 03:17 AM

I'm actually somewhat excited for the set changes next week. RAW needs something a little better, and ECW will probably actually have something for the first time ever.

I couldnt agree more. It even adds to the feeling like its a B show. The blue just doesnt drum up excitement.

The only issue that I would have with this is that the WWE has been doing that because RAW's colors were always red, red, and red. Blue seems to really contrast red alot, so they decided to make SD's color theme blue to contrast with RAW (they also did that so the WWE can "separate" it from the Monday Night War, so SD would look like a show that wasn't trying to compete with anyone...or at least that was one of the ways). If they changed SD, they probably would have to change the RAW color scheme to something that offset the colors they give SD (what color could there be that would contrast well with red?).

And since they changed the RAW theme, there were red lights on the audience during the show (not sure if they are still doing this, though). I don't think they will change that too much.

I agree about the fist though. All the sets needed changed for a long time.

Fox 01-16-2008 06:41 PM

whatever they do, let's just hope it's better than WCW's giant "WCW" logo that opened and shut.

SmackDown! has always had the general blue theme, and it was a great show. They never needed blue pyro or blue lights, however. They might as well just film the entire product with a blue-tinted lens.

However, I was not aware of the red lights for RAW. I personally think they should change that. I think it ruins the atmosphere, personally. I also would not oppose RAW moving ever so slightly away from the red, and SmackDown! ever so slightly away from the blue.

The Lone Wolf 01-16-2008 08:48 PM

They all needed to be redone. Raw was just so generic, Smackdown was ok when it first came but now is out dated, and ECW's looks like an indy promotions set in and huge arena.

JJT420 01-19-2008 08:36 PM

Well its official, all the shows will be sharing the same sets, heard the whole production is going to be real slick now, cannot wait to see it. :)

Shaggy 01-19-2008 09:09 PM

I heard that they are gonna be doing 3D in opening videos for ppvs now...

No...im not kidding...

Mr. Nerfect 01-19-2008 09:11 PM

I actually like the idea of all three shows sharing the same sets. It sounds very...slick I guess is the right word.
