Movies That Could Have been Good/Better With Different Actor(s)?

What movies do you think would have been good/better if one or two of the main characters were switched out with other actors? Name the movie, actors and characters.

Downunder 01-16-2008 05:26 AM

Anything with Tom L Hubbard Cruise would have been way better with anyone else.

As Will Ferrall demonstrated in Talledega Nights

Maverick 01-16-2008 05:30 AM

Radio, If you switched out Cuba Goodin' for Brad Pitt.

Destor 01-16-2008 05:32 AM

Nah they should've casted a black man for radio. To bad they couldn't get one though.

Haha, Word.

Green Street Hooligans - the entire starring cast

Dead or Alive.

Now, "better" is a subjective word here. I don't think this movie could have been good by any means, no matter how big the budget was or what director they got on it. DoA is bad movie material. Furthermore, I'm really just pissed that they hired actresses that looked nothing like the characters--after all, the entire reason for watching would be tits, and what do they go and do? Get actresses without tits. Come on now. With that in mind, several of the folks I'll mention aren't actors per se--models and such, more like, but it's not like the acting talent aspect mattered for a movie like this.

Kasumi
Original Actress: Devon Aoki
Critic's Choice: Yoko Matsugane
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi.../DOAKasumi.JPGhttp://www.ezthemes.com/previews/m/matsuganez3.jpg
Aoki's cute an' all, but boobies. Boobiesboobiesboobies. The biggest argument I hear against better casting for DOA is But there aren't girls built like that. Bullshit.

Tina Armstrong
Original Actress: Jaime Pressley
Critic's Choice: April Hunter
http://www.efecte-d.com/wp-content/u...07/04/Tina.jpghttp://pointme.to/april_hunter/image...l-feb2004a.jpg
Boobiesboobies. Blonde her up and let it roll. She's a wrestler in real life, so it's a sly nod to the aware. April's looked slimmer, I just couldn't find a good pic on such short notice.

Helena
Original Actress: Sarah Carter
Critic's Choice: Bianca Beauchamp
http://images.google.com/url?q=http:...7RGzsK_LAP8lAQThe only picture I could find of her blonde, she was also naked.
Bianca Beauchamp's into cosplay, gaming conventions and other assorted nerdy shit, so it wouldn't be a stretch to talk her into doing this.

Ayane
Original Actress: Natassia Malthe
Critic's Choice: Nozomi Takeuchi

And that's from like, ten minutes with Google and Wikipedia. You can't tell me that a director with months of preparation shouldn't be able to do better.

Jura 01-16-2008 11:17 AM

Nah I like Natassia Malthe.

I disagree Cruise was good in M.I. 3

In Speed you could have replaced reeves with anyone....lets say um Matt Daymon

Stickman 01-16-2008 12:22 PM

Had Tom Hanks decided to put effort into the Da Vinci Code he could've replaced himself with himself.

FakeLaser 01-16-2008 12:25 PM

The Matrix is the most obvious answer here.

Beat me to it. Christian Bale proved with Equilibrium that he'd make a much better Neo than Keanu Reaves. Hugo Weeving was highly entertaining, but part of me wants to see what Andre Braugher could have done with the role. Or at least the part of Morpheus. I liked Laurence Fishbourne, too, but honestly: Andre Braugher could improve any movie he is in by doing anything. Most underrated actor ever.

Equilibrium was just an all-around better take on the concept.

Fishburne woulda been fine, but it seemed like the director told him to never emote or something. I think anyone in that role would have been as bad.

The Star Wars prequels could have benefitted from actors worth a crap. Some of the lines are terrible, but a lot of them are decent, and only really suck because of the assholes playing the characters.

.44 Magdalene 01-18-2008 08:40 AM

Funny note: Originally, Will Smith was the one they planned to have play Neo, not Keanu. Imagine that crazy nonsense.

Now imagine if Keanu had played Will's character in ID4. :O

Savio 01-18-2008 11:11 PM

Mel Gibson should've played O-dogg in Menace to Society.

Agent Smith: Goodbye....Mr. Anderson.
Neo: AWWW HELLLLL NAW!

YOUR Hero 01-19-2008 12:06 PM

I thought Matrix was good with Reeves. That role didn't need anyone better. Movie was far and away ahead of it's time.

Let's not talk about the sequels.

Supreme Olajuwon 01-19-2008 12:24 PM

I never liked Mena Suvari as Angela in American Beauty. I didn't buy her performance at all especially compared to the other major female parts in the film which were superb.

and yes I realize the absurdity of saying American Beauty could've been better

Least Smith can emote.

Granted, he does it in a goody Minstrel Show style, but it would have fit better than Reeves.

.44 Magdalene 01-19-2008 03:48 PM

Yeah. I can't say with any certainty that Smith would be better or worse, it would just be drastically different. I don't know if the Matrix would have gotten the cult following it did, to be honest. Again, not that Smith's worse, he just seems to be less available for the role of the nerd hero.

Kane Knight 01-19-2008 03:57 PM

A black Jesus though. That would be money.

Jura 01-19-2008 04:14 PM

Black Kane Knight

Kane Knight 01-19-2008 08:04 PM

Wouldn't work. A black KK would have no impact saying nigger.

mitchables 01-19-2008 11:00 PM

Actually, I'm pretty sure Will Smith was offered the role of Neo, but turned it down for Wild Wild West.

I'll take "career choices he probably regrets" for $500, Alec. Alex. Whatever, we don't have Jeopardy(!) here.

.44 Magdalene 01-20-2008 05:13 AM

Now imagine if Keanu had been Jim West. Wacky!

To be fair, how could he possibly have known that the movie he was in would be the inferior one? :shifty:

Chuck Jones 01-20-2008 12:53 PM

Supposedly, Brandon Lee was the one the Wachowski brothers had in mind for Neo when they were writing the movie.

Could have been interesting.

Jura 01-20-2008 01:40 PM

I do wonder how his career would have been like if he was still alive.

I would have loved for this too happen. I saw great things in store for Lee and the matrix would have been better with him.

Seriously, Andre Braugher as a Jedi Master somewhere. He's going to become my Movies/TV equivalent to Doug Basham, but I don't care. The man has two Emmys to prove his talent (I know, Emmys don't mean shit).

I can actually see that. It would have probably kicked a lot of ass. It's a shame his career was cut so short.
