1. Homicide: Life on the Street
The most realistic cop show of all-time. Some great fucking writing in this, and amazing acting. I can actually remember the name of victims and criminals that appeared for one random episode here and there. If you have ever watched the show The Wire and Oz, and liked those, you will probably love H:LOTS. Both shows kind of spawned from the same ideals as this one. The DVDs are very expensive, apparently, but if you have ever enjoyed a police procedural show, or just like watching characters evolve, I'd highly recommend it. It's got thrills, intelligence, philosophy and humour. Easily my favourite show of all-time. 2. The Simpsons This is just a show that is so influential. It's a shame the writing is not what it used to be. In its prime, this show could be placed at the top of any greatest show list, and it could not be disputed, even if you don't agree. It's just that iconic. 3. Scrubs It took me a while to get into this, as for a while, I thought it looked stupid, but once you get in, you have a hilarious show with the most talented cast going today, and some damn fine serious moments, too. I recommend everyone pick up Season One, and just watch. If you don't laugh, and aren't at least a little touched by episode four, "My Old Lady," I do not want to share a car ride with you. I fear my soul will also dissolve into nothingness. Oh, plus, Sarah Chalke occasionally shows some skin on the show. Judy Reyes is underrated in the hotness department, too. Scrubs is the best show still running, without a doubt. I can't wait to see what the cast move onto after this. They are all really great. Please take your clothes off again, Sarah. It's never too late to start, Judy. 4. Arrested Development I read great things about this show, so I just thought "What the hell" and got it for my birthday. Believe it or not, I'd consider it the greatest birthday present I have ever got, and my whole family agrees. You really need to see this show from the beginning to really appreciate it. Buying Season One is strongly advised. It's just flat-out hilarious, and the only show I have ever watched, besides maybe "The Simpsons" that has made me laugh out loud when no one else is around. 5. Late Night with Conan O'Brien Conan O'Brien is the funniest talk show host in the world, hands down. The man is a comedy genius. Like with Scrubs, it took me a while to warm up to him, but once you've let your guard down a bit, the brilliance flows out. The man is funniest in a natural environment, too. He's the celebrity I most want to meet. I also want to see him in an actual acting role. This guy could be a heavyweight of comedy if he does a few hilarious scenes in a Will Farrell movie, or something. |
