New Metallica Album?
Has anybody heard any news as to when the new Metallica album is suppose to be coming out?
Apparently, the latter half of the year, near September, could be earlier.
2011.
if it is anything like St Anger, it can stay put
It is supposed to be released in the Spring, but then again I have the same sentiments as WestNZ.

Metallica has specifically stated in a couple of interviews that it won't suck like St. Anger did. They've played at least one of the new tracks at foreign concerts, and it didn't sound totally bad.

METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich recently spoke to Rolling Stone magazine (web site) about the songwriting process for the group's new album, tentatively due later this year.
When asked the titles of the new songs his band is about to record for its next album, Ulrich said. "Right now, most of them are called cities, I kid you, not! Caspar, Fresno, Munich, Glasgow — that seemed the easiest way to identify them." Ulrich, singer-guitarist James Hetfield, guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Rob Trujillo began work on the follow up to 2003's "St. Anger" while on tour during the past year backstage before each show. "We did something we'd never done before: We carried a ProTools (recording) system with us," Ulrich said. "Twenty minutes before stage time, we would go into a room and play, to get the machinery moving. They were jams, riffs, fun and games. And they were recorded. "That's where ninety-five percent of this record came from," Ulrich added. "The working titles are the geographical locations where they came up." According to Ulrich, the group's new producer Rick Rubin (SLAYER, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, AUDIOSLAVE, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS) says he wants to make the group sound "like the METALLICA that made them METALLICA without going backward" — and that he's doing it by challenging old habits. "He's questioning what key we should play in," Ulrich told Rolling Stone. "We've played in E flat since the beginning of the '90s. Nobody questioned it. All of a sudden, Rick is going, 'Maybe the stuff has more energy and Hetfield's voice sounds better in E.' He's forced us to rethink big-picture stuff, something we haven't done in years." Rubin also insisted that METALLICA rehearse and learn the material until, as Ulrich puts it, "we can play these songs in our sleep, standing on our heads. "With Bob [Rock, METALLICA's longtime producer], we'd go into the studio when we had some concrete ideas. But Rick wants us to take care of all the creative elements first. He wants us to capture these songs in a recording environment instead of creating them there." http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/bla...wsitemID=66980 |
There's also guarantees of actual guitar solos, meaning it's already better than St. Anger.

I find it funny that they say this album won’t suck like St Anger
And they said St Anger won’t suck like Load and ReLoad did Or irony! But the way it’s been put together sounds interesting, more spontaneous, I’ll get it, mainly because I’m a hypocrite |
I liked Load and ReLoad

Well the good news is that lars claims that he is going to actually turn the snare on for this album.
On a side/related note, for those of you with comcast go to on demand, entertainment, music, VH1, then VH1 classics, they have a 5 part series about Metallica :y:

it seems like this time they are saying that they are doing all the right things but i guess only time will tell.
well, i have to say, when it arrives, i will buy it, but if it sucks, it will suffer the same fate as St Anger, a nice place in my fire, with a gallon of lighter fluid on it.
I liked St Anger, wasn't their best album but it is not that bad.
I like Some Kind of Monster and The Unnamed Feeling on St. Anger.
Some Kind Of Monster, and Dirty Window, were like the only good songs on that album, the rest sucked monkey balls.
As long as it doesnt sound like it has trash can lids for drums, it'll be 1000x better than St. Anger.
I saw a video from one of their recent concerts where they played one of their new songs. Dont know if it will be a song thats on the album but the music sounded like a mix of Old School and New School Metallica with the vocals being new school.
The only sure thing I know besides that they said the album will be out this year is that the first single off the CD is gonna hit the video game Rock Band before anywhere else. |

Another album to show that they're just shell of their former selves. :nono:

I like to consider St. Anger a one-time accident, and not an indication of the state of affairs
i concider St Anger just another step in the wrong direction. If they are to get back to the heights of success they enjoyed before Load, then this new CD will really have to kick copious amounts of arse to make up for 3 disappointments in a row
