It still shocks me that after being on TV for the time that they have, AJ has never been a serious threat to the title. The man is the absolute goods for them and the second they get the exposure, he gets lost. Makes zero sense.

Because it is run by former WCW heads. In the storm shoot I watched, he talked on how the writers for wcw always made heels into comedy acts, which lead to storm saying. "why the hell does everything have to be a joke? How about making smart booking descions and worry about terrible comedy later"

The storyline is terrible, but its also sad how they have made Abyss so one dimensional. I mean I know that his strength is hardcore wrestling, but the guy can go in the ring and have a good match without slicing his body.
