Best Sporting Matchup

I was just wondering what matchup you all think is the best in the sporting world.

For me personally, its the Tri Nations rugby tourament each year. The three best nations at the sport all together showing their stuff to the world. Always good games played, and usually tight finishes.

The Ashes are probably the biggest trophy that's fought between 2 countries in the world. (Despite the fact that it's not really a trophy because the poms get to keep it, even when they lose)

Essendon vs Collingwood games in the AFL are always unpredictable, regardless of where both teams are on the ladder.

the Old Firm in Scotland only cos that's the only game worth watching in that ridiculous league.

Man Utd vs Arsenal is great as well

also, on a local thing here in NZ, Auckland vs Cantabery at any sport is always big

In no particular order:

New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox
Internazionale vs AC Milan
Everton vs Liverpool
Manchester United vs Liverpool
Ashes
Old Firm
Real Madrid vs Barcelona

In my opinin anyway, I don't consider any of the London derbies big enough to make the list

Yankees vs. Red Sox easily

I actually think now all things considered Old Firm probably just gets it for me, can't think of another rivalry that is like it, Red Sox/Yanks is huge and vocal, but its not the same, its not the same city, it doesn't have the sectarian tension, and its not like the Red Sox have the unbelievable record of the Yankees to add to the matchup, which Rangers and Celtic have.

Irish Soccer Fans vs Laws

ct2k 02-12-2008 07:31 AM

To be fair the worst fans by far can be found in Italy

English fans used to be terrible but we were forced to completely clean up our act and introduce much stricter safety and security measures, no other country has done much to improve to the level we have but we still get labelled and blamed for things.

But Irish fans?:wtf:

New York vs Boston is some dank toes, you got that fuckin annoying Yankees/Red Sox goin on then the Mets whoopin up Boston in 1986 then the Giants beating the Pats in the Super Bowl

THE LAKERS CELTICS FINALS THIS YEAR

ct2k 02-12-2008 02:57 PM

OLD FIRM:rant:

WestNZ 02-14-2008 05:37 PM

Also, to me, it seems any english soccer match where both teams are from the same City or two teams real close to each other seem to go off real big. I have never seen anything like it EVER

yianni 02-15-2008 09:05 AM

Any football (soccer) derby is fucking immense. Nothing like it in the fucken world.

McDoogle 02-15-2008 09:39 AM

Inter Milan vs Ac Milan. I went to a derby two years ago and sat in the Ultra's section and it was the single greatest sports experience of my life. It even topped the world cup game I saw in New York (Italy vs Norway). There just isn't another atmosphere like it.

WestNZ 02-15-2008 04:23 PM

I can remember watching Inter v AC a lil while back on telly, and i have to say, even though i was thousands of miles away, you could feel the passion of the players and crowd as well.
