The top 20 most OVER people ever in the WWF/E..EVER

Starting at the Mid-80's/Hogan Era and beyond

10 top as a face & top 10 as a heel. Also give the year(s) they were at their peaks and why they were.

I'll have my list up later and shit..

Loose Cannon 03-14-2008 03:50 PM

we talking WWF only here or everyone. I'll do everyone, then do WWF if this is WWF only

Babyfaces (I know I'll miss a few)

10) Bret Hart
9) Warrior
8) Taker
7) Sting
6) The Rock
5) HBK
4) Steamboat
3) Dusty Rhodes
2 Steve Austin
1) Hulk Hogan

Stickman 03-14-2008 03:50 PM

Hogan
HBK
Rock
Austin
Hart
Undertaker
Piper
Macho Man
Warrior
Andre the Giant
Perfect
Hacksaw (kids loved him)

I'm done trying.

Loose Cannon 03-14-2008 03:57 PM

Heels:

10) Andre
9) Savage
8) Tully Blanchard
7) Nick Bochwinkle
6) Dibiase
5) Freebirds
4) HHH
3) Piper
2) Vince
1) Ric Flair

MMH 03-14-2008 04:07 PM

Face (in no order):
1. Hulk Hogan (87-90)
2. Austin (99)
3. Rock (2000)
4. Taker (2000 I guess)
5. Ultimate Warrior (90)
6. Savage (88)
7. Bret Hart (96)
8. HHH (early 2002)
9. Dusty Rhodes (???)
10. Razor Ramon (95)

Heels (in no order)
1. Piper (85)
2. Rock (99 and 03)
3. HBK (98)
4. HHH (2000 and 2005)
5. Savage (89)
6. DiBiase (88)
7. Austin (97 and 01)
8. Vince (late 90s)
9. Sgt. Slaughter (91)
10. Ric (92)

MMH 03-14-2008 04:11 PM

Ah forgot Vince, yeah he should be in the top heels. I didn't include Bockin because the OP said only to do the Hogan era and onward.

Loose Cannon 03-14-2008 04:17 PM

Bockin? you mean Bockwinkle? I figured the Hogan era started around '84/85 and Nick was still on top then

It's WWF only I see anyway. I'll redo the lists

Johnny Vegas 03-14-2008 04:18 PM

I know i'm going to make my list later, but Cena should at least be in there somewhere in the faces dept. (late 2003-04)

Bockwin, forgot the W. :p

MMH 03-14-2008 04:21 PM

I don't know much about the New Generation era since I was a kid when I watched it. Were the pops modified? Because I remember Razor Ramon at one point in 95 was fucking ridiculous over, perhaps more than Shawn or Bret.

Hanso Amore 03-14-2008 05:35 PM

Heel

1) Bobby Heenan
2) Piper
3) Bret Hart (Anti America)
4) Macho Man
5) Dibiase
6) Rock
7) Angle
8) Undertaker (Ministry)
9) HHH
10) Rick Rude

HBK was never the top heel until 97, and DX was pretty much faces.

HBK in Montreal is mad heat though.

Hanso Amore 03-14-2008 05:36 PM

I cant believe I was the first one to say Bobby Heenan.

I know some of you are young, but in the 80s he was the Number one Heel against Hogan, they just attached random guys to him to throw at Hulk, and in turn got them over.

Loose Cannon 03-14-2008 05:38 PM

wasn't counting managers.

NeanderCarl 03-14-2008 06:23 PM

In no order, prime heat year in parenthesis, not counting managers, modern era only...

Faces:
Hulk Hogan (1987)
Steve Austin (1998)
The Rock (2000)
Roddy Piper (1991)
Bret Hart (1993)
Randy Savage (1988)
The Undertaker (1997)
Ultimate Warrior (1990)
Shawn Michaels (1996 or 2004)
The British Bulldog (1992)... in the UK, at least. He was a God over here, the most over babyface in the company, more so than Hogan, Warrior, Savage or anyone else. WWF cleverly edited the syndicated shows like Superstars that they sent over here, so that not only were Davey Boy matches put in the main event slot to make it look like he was a huge deal over the pond, but his losses were rarely shown either.

Heels:
Triple H (2000)
The Rock (1998 or 2003)
Ted DiBiase (1988)
Andre The Giant (1987)
Jake The Snake Roberts (1991/92)
Roddy Piper (1985)
Mr Perfect (1990)
Ric Flair (1992)
Jerry Lawler (1993)
Randy Savage (1989)
Chris Benoit (2007) :shifty:

Special mentions for Heenan, Jimmy Hart, Blassie, Vince and the Stooges, but they weren't proper wrestlers.

Vastardikai 03-15-2008 03:21 AM

Don't bother me with years...

Faces:
1. The Rock
2. Steve Austin
3. Hulk Hogan
4. Jake "The Snake" Roberts (post El Kabong)
5. Chris Jericho
6. Ultimate Warrior
7. Undertaker (initial face turn)
8. Randy "Macho Man" Savage
9. "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan
10. RVD

Heels:
1. Triple H
2. Ted DiBiase
3. The Rock
4. Chris Jericho
5. Undertaker (Ministry of Darkness)
6. Edge
7. Paul Orndorff
8. Shawn Micheals
9. Yokozuna
10. Ric Flair
11. John Cena :shifty:

The Genius 03-15-2008 03:30 AM

Not even close.

DaVe 03-15-2008 05:59 AM

As much as I believe Taker was at his peak 98-99 I don't know if heel Taker would be top 10 heels ever. Demonic Undertaker (from reconcilation with Paul to some weeks before he left in 99) always looked in my eyes as if people were interested in his character but weren't sure whether to hate him for being a super heel or like his attitude.

Bad Company 03-15-2008 07:17 AM

Faces
10. Mick Foley
9. Ultimate Warrior
8. Savage
7. Hogan
6. Rock
5. Austin
4. Undertaker
3. Ken Shamrock
2. John Cena
1. Rob Van Dam

Heels
10. Bret Hart
9. Shawn Michaels
8. HHH
7. Andre the Giant
6. Kane
5. The Rock
4. Undertaker
3. Ric Flair
2. Vince McMahon
1. Jake Roberts

In no real order.

Fox 03-16-2008 03:21 AM

1) Hulk Hogan

2) The Rock

Jeritron 03-16-2008 03:24 AM

The Rock was never more over than Stone Cold

DaVe 03-16-2008 05:05 AM

Yeah, I'd have to say Austin or Hogan are easily the most over people of all time. Rock was pretty popular in 2000, but in 97 and 98 the crowd reactions for Austin were just ridiculous. I don't remember seeing many people talking about the loudest pops of all time and including Rock... Usually it was Austin (though Jericho's debut and Triple H's return were also popular picks).

NeanderCarl 03-16-2008 11:38 AM

Triple H had a huge pop on his return in MSG but one of the biggest one-time pops ever doesnt neccessarily mean you're one of the most over faces ever.

RP 03-16-2008 01:34 PM

Dino Bravo
Adrian Adonis
Eddie Guerrero
British Bulldog
Owen Hart
John Tenta
Big John Studd
Bam Bam Bigelo
Big Boss Man
Chris Benoit

Johnny Vegas 03-16-2008 03:54 PM

I'm also surprised that no one is saying DDP more when he was in WCW. That diamond hand-signal was boss and he had one of the greatest moves ever.
