Stargate SG-1: The Ark of Truth

This is the made for DVD movie that ends the Stargate SG-1 arc involving the Ori. I'm finally beginning to watch it. Anyone else seen it?

Downloaded it a week ago. I enjoyed it.

Same here. I do have some questions though that I will save for later.

I'll be buying it next month when its released over here.

Saying that though, if Sci-fi did not want to pay for a full 20 epi series, they could have at least forked out for a half season or something, instead of craming in a finale in an extended episode. That, and the finale episode of Season 10 was no way to finish an entire series.

I agree about season 10.

For what it's worth, and I know it's not worth much, but they're not ending the series with just The Ark of Truth. There is also Continuum, which will be another "Full length movie" dealing with the other outstanding story arc.

However, they should have done something more akin to Peacekeeper Wars, and done a miniseries for each story arc. I've enjoyed what I've see of Ark of Truth so far, but it feels kind of compressed and/or condensed.

This was one of the better-rated shows in Sci-Fi's roster, and they canned it after only a slight ratings dip, but I really would have appreciated an eleventh season which did wrap things up over the course of ten or twenty episodes. I mean, I on't want to whine about how they shouldn't have killed the series, but I would have liked to have seen a bit more than what they gave us to wrap it up. I can't entirely say that I'd be satisfied, but it would have given me a better sense of closure for the series.

2I liked the way they finished this arc (No pun intended) though. I wish they had had more time to develop it, but they did a good job. Particularly, I would have liked to have seen Vala's husband developed more as he began to turn. He got a little time in the last season, but the next time we see him, he's really ready to just drop his faith in the Ori as Gods and switch sides.

What I want to know is what they do with the Priors and the Ori ships. That's some bad ass technology right there that they can use.

Use them to take on Ba'al.

Actually, if they really wanted to continue Stargate, all they need to do is have them fall into the wrong hands. The IOA is stupid enough....

Thought Vala's husband became leader of the Ori followers at the end of the movie. With that, i'd assume he had all the other Ori follower back to the Ori galaxy.

He did.

I like how they still use machine guns and stuff while everyone else in the world is using stunners, staff weapons and the like.

Pretty sure that when the apocalypse comes, and even the cockroches are extinct, there will still be new stargate tv shows.

Well, the P-90 is more effective than the staff weapons of both the Jaffa and he Ori in terms of accuracy, not to mention the extensive training they have in the use of those and the auto-shotguns they've used periodically. Zats are useful, but don't seem to have the range or rate of fire of a P-90. That's why you tend to see all the frontliners strapped with Zats as well as P-90s.

Unfortunately, it will be a spinoff of Atlantis, nobody will watch it, and it will feature only Walter as a returning character.

We are set to have another series from the Stargate universe next year, apparently. Supposed to use a ninth chevron this time, and independent of the other shows.

Anyways, I like Atlantis, though not as much as SG-1.

Is that the one that was tenatively titled Stargate Command? And didn't they already use the "Ninth Chevron" for something else?

Atlantis was decent starting with like Season 2, but the first one was fairly bad. It's just not something I'm keen on watching these days, given it doesn't have an SG-1 lead in.

I thought season 4 had Carter in Command? I haven't got that far yet.

As for the new Stargate thing, it's supposed to be called "Stargate Universe," or something like that. WIKI will have more info on it.

Yeah, Carter's in command. When I said lead in, I meant as in, leading into the show. It doesn't have new eps of Stargate SG-1 before it. Not that it lacked the lead actors. In fact, I love many of the characters from Atalntis, I just find myself caring less about the actual situations and confrontations. Rodney and Ronan are especially awesome.

There was plans for a Stargate series called Stargate Command, and I'm not sure if it's the same concept or not, since SGU appears to be intended as a separate entity as opposed to a spinoff. The Stargate Command idea may have been scrapped; the idea was a poor one to begin with, since it revolved around the idea of "Let's make a new Stargate SG-1 series where we don't have to pay experienced actors high prices for the leading roles!"

Sci Fi has not been known for smart ideas over the last few years, so I worry about anything in the future. They've killed several of their best series for reasons that made no sense, and even tried to play hardball with the BBC over Doctor Who. It may be why Torchwood never came to Sci Fi, too. Though another likely theory is that it was simply too risqué, also true.

So you can see why I'm a bit worried. Especially with the guys behind Stargate not writing the new one.
