What's a decent acoustic guitar?

Preferably, an acoustic electric number. My grandparents usually end up sending me some decent cash for my Borthday (yeah, two months away, but), so I can usually afford stuff.

I'm currently playing a Rogue Dreadnought which I got for cheap. It was cheap because of some warping, and I had it set up, but the action ended up being really high. It's Hell on my bum shoulder especially. It was a learner guitar though, something I got back when I only knew three chords and was teaching myself guitar. I knew next to nothing about what to look for.

Anyone got any recs? An A/E they love the shit out of that's reasonable? Reasonable being more than the 100 I paid for my guitar, but less than like 5-600....

i got a simon & patrick ages ago. it's a bit fucked up now (was a 12 string, now it's 6 cause i'm cheap, plus it's got a bit dusty and neglected)

at the time i bought it though, i wasn't even looking for a guitar. just gave it a try one day and i had to have it. put a down payment on and struggled like fuck for the money. absolutely incredible sound and pretty cheap too.

nevermind, didn't read the post.

Taylor
Martin
Yamaha

They are supposed to be pretty good makers of acoustics.

too bad the base price on a Taylor or Martin is $500...

You can try a Takamine.

You mean a grandpa's guitar? Grandpa guitars are for pussies and grandpas.

But Taylor and Dean

Do you actually play guitar, BDC?

I know my way around a bass. I need to practice and tune it up, but yeah. It is just a black fender p-bass. But in high school and most of college I spent a good amount of time in guitar stores, looking at guitars and playing around with guitars. Plus my brother builds guitars. I don't remeber hearing anything bad about either Dean or Taylor for grandpa's guitars.

Kane Knight 03-27-2008 12:43 PM

Tuning should probably come before practice.

BigDaddyCool 03-27-2008 01:04 PM

Don't tell me what to do.

Kane Knight 03-27-2008 01:14 PM

You gonna stop me, bitch?

Fender do an acoustic Strat and Tele these days. They have fender pickups and electric necks. Cheap, easy to play. Id link you to them, but I can't be bothered.

Had a roommate who had an Alvarez A/E that he said was about in that price range. It was a cutaway, pretty playable. No idea what kind of wood or anything, I'm not good with that, but whenever I have browsed guitar stores Alvarez comes up as a pretty decent guitar that isn't like Martin money.

Meh. I hate the Strat/tele design.

I think thats nice... I have a Paisley Tele (electric, modern one, as they didn't make the Paisley finish post CBS :( ). I went through a period of not liking its looks, but then I realised how stupid that was.

Ticks every box better than anything else for that money.

Try the new Ibanez's.

Or if the electro/acoustic thing isn't totally necessary, get an Epiphone J200 Jumbo. They are as good as the Gibson at 1/4th the price.

Kane Knight 04-18-2008 09:45 AM

I hate the shape of the Fender strat/tele bodies.

I've looked through the Ibanez stuff, though I think I want to find more specs on them.

I also fond a fender AE 12 string that I like. It lists at like 500 bucks, though I can find it almost anywhere for about 350.
