This one I'm going to have to think a while about and get back to you.

Londoner 03-23-2008 08:21 AM

Eddie once again for me, There are only a few wrestlers who i think i would vote for instead of eddie.

Pardeep 619 03-23-2008 08:25 AM

Both wrestlers were excellent in terms of ring ability and both were very believable as face and heel, however Macho Man could not cut a decent promo without having to shout whereas Eddie was brilliant as promos.

Eddie gets my vote yet again.

Destor 03-23-2008 08:42 AM

I had to vote a draw. I just can't honestly think of a area where one really stands out over the other. Promos are tight as hell. Eddie picked up in the promos toward the end of his career but his promos were considerably worse than the average Savage promo up until then. Match quality is neck to neck with no man proving the better. Savage and Eddie have both had some all time classics. Savage gets a slight advantage in longevity but really, Eddie's star burns brighter than Savage's does and Eddie's been dead for a couple of years now. Which says a lot next to Savage. They both played booth sides of the coin VERY well, and niether really stands out in that department.

Honestly I don't know how I could consider one superior to another. Had to go with draw.

KingofOldSchool 03-23-2008 08:55 AM

Macho Man, without question.

Anybody Thrilla 03-23-2008 09:41 AM

Macho Man, baby. Firstly, I think Eddie's seriously overrated by a lot of you here. Secondly, it's the fucking Macho Man. Maybe I'm voting based on nostalgia, but he was involved in some of my favorite feuds and matches of all time (Hogan, Flair, Warrior, etc.). I love Randy Savage.

Londoner 03-23-2008 09:43 AM

How is eddie overrated? I dont remember one time where he didn't entertain me, and he's more my era sort of thing..so gotta go with eddie. Eddie certainly is not overrated.

Anybody Thrilla 03-23-2008 09:48 AM

I thought he was a pretty bland babyface in WCW, for starters. Also, Macho Man's rap skills are way better. :shifty:

Londoner 03-23-2008 09:51 AM

Well imo his time in wwe makes up for what he did in wcw. ;)

Anybody Thrilla 03-23-2008 09:57 AM

Well IMO, Macho Man is better, so FUCK YOU.

I'm sorry, that was harsh. Still though, Macho Man FTW, if not for his feud with Ric Flair (with the alleged compromising photographs of Miss Elizabeth), the match with careers on the line with the Ultimate Warrior (looooooooooooove that match), and getting bitten by Damien (that was Jake Roberts' snake for all you young bucks) alone.

Also, I think he somehow made Slim Jims more delicious. OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAAAAAAAAH!

Anybody Thrilla 03-23-2008 09:59 AM

ALSO, once I was at a live event when I was a wee pup, and there was this fat drunk guy dressed EXACTLY like The Macho Man. Full garb, it was amazing.

Anyway, at the top of the stairs of my section after he had just purchased two beers, he yelled out "OHHHHHHHH YEAAAAAAAAH!" and proceeded to slip on the top step, falling down the whole row and dousing himself with beer.

That may actually be my favorite wrestling memory of all time. Eddie Guerrero never did that for me.

Eddie gets my vote yet again.

what are you talking about? He rarely shouted throughout his promos early on. He spoke soft mostly and then raised his voice when he needed to. Shouting to get through a promo would be like Giant in 95/96.

Savage here, It's very close. Savage had more of a run on top . He was on top at least 3, maybe 4 times in his career. I see him in a much higher light then I do Eddie when I look back in the history of wrestling.

But again, Eddie is the man. Great promo (his promos were some of the best I've ever seen later in his career) and his workrate was solid all the time.

I don't think he's overated, I just think that he's Hulk Hogan to a lot of the new generation of fans.

Loose Cannon 03-23-2008 10:10 AM

Typical Savage promo albeit one of the shorter ones. He spoke soft, shouted for emphasis and then back to soft again.

Eddie...Eddie...Eddie...

Anybody Thrilla 03-23-2008 10:11 AM

Hulk Hogan? Please elaborate.

Loose Cannon 03-23-2008 10:19 AM

he's "the man" to all the post attitude fans. Fans that didn't watch wrestling before then. They see him in a god like stature. That's what I'm trying to get at. If you started watching wrestling in 2001/2002 etc... Eddie is of icon status to most of these fans. That's the way I feel anyway.

Anybody Thrilla 03-23-2008 10:21 AM

I dunno about all that, but whatever. MACHO MAN FTW

KingofOldSchool 03-23-2008 10:43 AM

Macho Man had more career defining moments. Like Thrilla pointed out his angle with Jake and Flair in the WWF. Not to mention his mention his HOT feuds with Honky Tonk Man, Steamboat, Hogan, and Warrior. The angle as the Macho King, his relationship with Liz, and the fact that he was WHITE HOT throughout his run in the company.

His time alone in the WWF already beats anything Eddie has accomplished. But then again Eddie is going to win basically on the IWC's love for cruiserweight wrestlers.

Blue Demon 03-23-2008 10:53 AM

It was a very close call for me, but I went with Macho because I have many great memories as a kid of watching him. Mostly nostalgia, but I think he was solid all around as well.

Kane Knight 03-23-2008 11:08 AM

I was never a big fan of Macho Man. Not like I hated him, but he never did it for me. Eddie, on the other hand, was someone I've liked for ages. Face or Heel. It's not so much that I think Macho sucks as it is that I loooove Eddie.

Yeah. Plus I kinda only caught the tail end of Macho Man's career and haven't really made an effort to familiarize myself with his earlier stuff.

Rammsteinmad 03-23-2008 04:35 PM

Eddie Guerrero.

CSL 03-23-2008 05:08 PM

Ahhhh man.

Savage. Just.

What Would Kevin Do? 03-23-2008 05:15 PM

Hard decision... Really hard.... Going with Eddie.

Destor 03-23-2008 05:27 PM

Really interesting thread. I appreciate the discusion guys, it's why I make this after all. As usual I repped everyone who posted their reason for voting the way they did. Really enjoyable read. Good points all around. Definitly the hardest vote for me thus far. My first draw here.

KYR 03-23-2008 05:47 PM

Wow. I really can't make up my mind.

Eeny, meeny, miney...

Chavo Classic 03-23-2008 05:57 PM

Eddie. But I wondered how much my decision has been affected by his untimely death

redoneja 03-23-2008 05:58 PM

Randy Savage.

Savage was a hell of a wrestler at a time in the WWF when big men ruled. He consistently put on good matches through the early 90's with a mediocre supporting cast (with the exception of Steamboat, Flair, Dibiase). He carried Warrior to a classic at Mania 7 and was able to make Yokozuna and Crush look much better than they actually were during the '93-'94 period. One of the greatest technicians of that era.

And then he goes to WCW in late 94, early 95. Has a shit time through late '96. And then he (much like Hogan) revitalizes his career in the nWo. Easily had the feud of the year in 1997 with DDP. Not only did this feud show that Savage still had 'it' almost a decade out of his prime. He was able to put DDP on the map during that feud, setting up everything Page would do until his first title win in 1999.

jerrystupidlawler 03-23-2008 06:39 PM

Macho Man. The true "Mr WrestleMania." WM 3 vs Steamboat, WM 4 title win, WM 5 vs Hogan, WM 7 vs Warrior, WM 8 vs Flair...

Ruien 03-23-2008 06:46 PM

Macho Man without a second thought. When voting, I figured everyone was going to be behind Randy. That dude was gold, and kinda like KK said but in reverse for me. For some reason always liked Randy over Hogan when they were teaming, and always hated seeing Hogan with the best, just for the fact I wanted Randy to have it. (I was a toddler back then basically)

Verbose Minch 03-23-2008 06:49 PM

Eddie Guerrero, his silly antics were glorious.

Destor 03-23-2008 07:31 PM

eddie is winning by a lot more than I expected him too. 5 up.

Heros Welcome 03-23-2008 08:14 PM

Going to go with Eddie on this one. Based on the fact that I caught the tail end of Macho while he was in WCW, but I still loved him then, so I could only imagine what my vote would be if I did watch more early/prime Macho. Always loved Eddie, and my votes for him will continue.

Innovator 03-23-2008 08:18 PM

Eddie. Knowing Randy was a control freak and had to plan out spot for spot most of his big matches took away in the end.

Though he did figure out how to get a good match out of Warrior.

redoneja 03-23-2008 11:38 PM

Also, I forgot to mention how well Savage could control the crowd, whether as a face or a heel.

Prior to Mania III, he was hated and reviled by fans for his attack on Steamboat. His heat during this time was incredible. Same with his heel heat leading up his match with Hogan at Mania V.

Savage could also get the crowd behind him like many others couldn't. In '92, he became the sentimental crowd favorite against Flair during their feud, same thing with Elizabeth. Speaking of Elizabeth, let's not forget their reunion after he lost to Warrior at Mania VII. FFS, the cameras broke away to countless women who were sobbing.

Eddie was a great wrestler, but most of the time, he wasn't controlling the emotions of the crowd. Instead, they were just going "OH" "AH" at his moves. Such is the case for his time in Japan, ECW, and WCW. It was only during his WWE run after he won the championship that he really, truly began to emotionally connect with the fans.

Skippord 03-23-2008 11:38 PM

because I love Mexicans

To be honest, I haven't seen enough of Savage to really put him over Eddie. I love Eddie, he was amazing, and I can't vote for someone else over him because of someone else's arguement. Savage may be the big, historical figure, but in the end, I'll go with Eddie. In fact, I think there are very few pre-90's figured who I know/watched enough to
