A new Sonic game is in the works. It's apparantly going to be for the Ps3, Xbox360 and the Wii. I can't see how the Wii could handle it though.

HeartBreakMan2k 03-24-2008 03:25 PM

Spoiler: It's going to suck

Tornado 03-24-2008 04:03 PM

Sonic the Hedgehog (PS3/360) was poor.
Sonic and the Secret Rings (Wii) was meh.

I don't hold out much hope.

Mr Regal 03-26-2008 03:26 PM

let's face it, sonic has always been second rate.

Xero 03-26-2008 03:56 PM

Sonic sucks when he's in 3D. They never can seem to get decent gameplay out of it. It feels clunky.

Game companies need to realize that the 2D platformer should not be dead. 3D works in some cases like Mario, but others, like Sonic, completely kill it.

Indifferent Clox 03-26-2008 04:10 PM

The dreamcast sonic games were gold

Purgatory 03-26-2008 05:45 PM

The Wii could handle it, although there will definately be a lack of some elements that will take the hardware prowess of the PS3 and 360. I have Sonic: Legend of The Rings for the Wii and it's graphically beautiful for what it can do...Granted, it isn't a great game but it's ok if you're a Sonic fan.

I'm not gonna expect too much out of this latest excursion either.

They were pretty much "Meh" at best.

Destor 03-26-2008 07:42 PM

I loved the Dreamcast Sonic games. anyway the trailer looks alright. We'll see how it goes. (Completely agree with what Xero said about 2D/3D platformers.

FakeLaser 03-26-2008 08:06 PM

Yeah Sonic Adventure was the last good Sonic game and it was the first good one since like Sonic & Knuckles.

Destor 03-26-2008 08:20 PM

Don't forget Sonic Adventure 2

Hey, you are supposed to do those in black so you don't ruin the suprise.

Testicle 03-26-2008 08:43 PM

They released a sonic collection for PS2, it has all of the genesis sonic games, if anyones interested.

Its called 'Sonic Mega Collection' and its only 20$

Destor 03-26-2008 08:50 PM

Everyone already knows that.

Dorkchop 03-27-2008 12:56 AM

Sonic Advance 1-3 are all great games. Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush: Adventure were both good as well... however Sonic is always ass on consoles. By the looks of this it's 2.5D, which could actually make this not ass. Has this been confirmed yet? I know small bits of "info" have been released, but I don't think Sega has confirmed anything yet.

It's also out on the Gamecube, got it this past Christmas for my wife.

Drakul 04-02-2008 01:34 AM

Yeah, there is a Sonic Gems Collection aswell. It has Sonic R and Sonic CD on it among others. Plus one or two non-Sonic games hidden away.

Maybe his wife likes Sonic games? So if that was the case it very possibly could have done.

therocksays 04-02-2008 06:50 AM

"you are so sweet hunny, its sonic" somehow that doesnt sound right to me haha

Nowhere Man 04-03-2008 10:19 AM

As much as I've really disdained most of the 3D Sonic games, I've got to admit, that footage does look like a lot of fun. Here's hoping that the actual gameplay itself stacks up.

Drakul 04-03-2008 10:30 AM

Yeah, the 3D side scrolling thing reminds me of Sonic Rush.

I have story details and screenshots taken from the ONM forums.(spoilers?)

Background Information
Sonic Unleashed is the next exciting installment in the Sonic The Hedgehog series. The game's title was trademarked by Sega on 12th March 2008 and the first screenshots of cut scenes and gameplay were posted on 22nd March 2008. Gameplay footage was also released in the form of a video.

The game is currently being edited upon by Sega's development teams from Japan, America, and Europe in an attempt to reinvent the franchise for a multiplatform release in November 2008. A new character has also been announced, but no screen or plot details of the character have been given.

It is unknown if any characters other than Sonic will be playable, though it is rumoured that Tails and Knuckles will also be playable.
Quote:

Plot
From the screenshots so far, it can be garnered that Doctor Eggman has managed to defeat Super Sonic by neutralising his powers. It is also confirmed that there will be a werewolf version of Sonic in the game. Speculation about the purpose of this new character ranges from the game's main enemy to a transformation of Sonic.

It has been revealed that the setting for this new game is the desolate and unpredictable world of Mubuz, a world dictated by an evil Dragon Lord called Immarius. Upon entering Mubuz, Sonic fights an evil power which turns all the inhabitants into dangerous beasts.

Recently revealed concept images also show the planet exploding.

Sonic Unleashed is set to follow on from the events of Sonic The Hedgehog Next-Gen.
Quote:

Gameplay
The game appears to be a 3D sidescroller, similar to Sonic Rivals, with occasional shifts to on-rails gameplay with the camera behind Sonic, much like Sonic and the Secret Rings. A speed meter can also be seen in the bottom left corner of some screenshots, but whether this has any major gameplay impact has yet to be seen or announced. Also, it seems that there is a ring meter which acts as the Tension Gauge in the Sonic Rush games, which can be used for speed boosts. It is uncertain how the style of gameplay will change due to Sonic's apparent contraction of lycanthropy

More story info:

Quote:

This time Dr Eggman has broken the world into pieces and Sonic has to put it back together again by retrieving the power of chaos emeralds. In addition to high speed running, the hedgehog will have to enage in some combat as he speeds around the seven continents in a race against time to save the world.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about this new game is how the game changes in the night levels. Sega is promising a different type of adventure when the sun sets.

Kalyx triaD 04-04-2008 12:36 PM

Why, why, WHY a werewolf gimmick?! GOD they got something with the 2.5D stuff but they had to push it to wacky concepts!

Nowhere Man 04-05-2008 12:32 AM

It's like just when they get their hopes up with the promise of fun gameplay, they were really just winding up to bash you over the head with stupid.

An already-anthropomorphic hedgehog thing that transforms into another anthropomorphic wolf-hedgehog thing? And you just know the big monster form is going to be clunky and slow, which defeats the whole purpose of a Sonic game.

Just.....rrrrggggghhhh.....

Kalyx triaD 04-05-2008 09:08 AM

Looks like SSBB will be the best Sonic game in years.

I guess Sega hasn't learned a single thing from their past miskates. Does anyone in Sega speak up?

Kalyx triaD 04-07-2008 03:16 AM

On second thought, the GBA/DS Sonic games seem to be pretty decent.

Drakul 04-07-2008 05:27 AM

Maybe the werewolf sections will just be for boss battles or something :?:

RottingFreak 04-08-2008 05:00 PM

Gimmicks can be good in platform games if done correctly. Just look at the Mario series.

therocksays 04-08-2008 05:01 PM

rottingfreak just gave me bad rep, the rock has only 1 thing to say to you

go rot and die bitch

RottingFreak 04-08-2008 09:29 PM

That's the exact reaction I was hoping for. Way to go, rock. You really showed me there!

Goddamn idiot.

Lux 04-09-2008 12:41 AM

Look at therocksays, that was a mighty amazing comeback, clearly you have proved me wrong in that i think your an idiot

Well, she's just a fan of some of the more...'cutesy' is a good word I guess...games. Mario, Sonic, Spyro, some jobber Ty, the Tazmanian whatever he is..Those type of platformers.

I prefer the stealth/action genre. Splinter Cell series tops the list.

Although, I am thoroughly enjoying Bully for the PS2 right now

So you may have already seen yesterday's Sonic Unleashed teaser trailer featuring a mysterious werewolf. Today we can reveal that the werewolf is Sonic!

By day Sonic will be the blue hedgehog we all know and love but, when the sun sets, he turns into a werehog with claws and fangs.

This does make a difference to the gameplay as the werehog is slower but stronger, meaning he can swing around levels, move obstacles and hurl enemies around.

You can read more about the werehog in the new issue of Official Nintendo Magazine which goes on sale on Friday. Featuring an exclusive preview of Sonic Unleashed an an interview with the game's designer, Yoshihisa Hashimoto, ONM 29 is a must-read issue.
I'll let you know if any interesting info is in the magazine when I pick it up tomorrow.

New trailer for Sonic Unleashed. This video is for the 360 version but apparantly the Ps3 and Wii versions looks and play exactly the same as the 360 version.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UWu5uiS-4KI&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UWu5uiS-4KI&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

The game looks awesome. I don't think I've seen Sonic run so fast but now he looks to actually live up to his name. I'm not sure how the Wii version will be able to match the 360/Ps3 version graphically though.

*sigh*

Y'know, the levels where you play as regular Sonic look freaking amazing. If they went and remade, say, Sonic 3/ Sonic and Knuckles with that engine, they could have an instant classic on their hands.

But that 'were-hog' thing still looks retarded. And the fact that I'd have to spend half of the game trudging through half-assed God of War wannabe levels to get back to the fun stuff has pretty much turned me off altogether.
