Rate the Wrestlemania matches!

Give your rating for each match on the five star scale!

JBL/Finlay - *** - This match really fun, a fantastic Wrestlemania opener. The spots were basic but effective, and JBL got the shit beat out of him!

Money In The Bank - **** - Probably my favorite MITB ever at Wrestlemania. Really awesome innovative spots, the only thing I didn't like about it is the amount of times wrestlers were left having to sloooowly climb up the ladders.

Batista/Umaga - ** 1/2 - This match seemed cut short, it didn't have much of a story other than two really tough guys beating on each other for a few minutes. I thought this had potential to steal the show, boy was I wrong.

Kane/Chavo Guerrero - N/R - What can you say? It was a 10 second match, Kane got to win a title at Wrestlemania and thats good.

Shawn Michaels/Ric Flair - **** 1/2- Great match, great end for Ric Flair's carrer. The match was totally different than I expected and had some classic Wrestlemania moments.

BunnyMania - ** - The WWE diva's have improved so much in the past few years its really great. This wasn't the best diva match ever but the crowd was hot, Snoop Dog was funny, and the match was pretty good. The addition of Snoop, Santino, and the WWE Divas for lumberjacks was a good idea.

Orton/Cena/Triple - **** - Ah what a surprise finish! Really excellent match that was quick and never slowed down. Clever spots, and a hot crowd also added to the match.

Floyd Mayweather/Big Show - *** 1/2 - They pulled this match off so much better than I expected. It wasn't a classic wrestling match, but it was a classic Wrestlemania match, filled with tons of great moments and believable spots. I loved when Big Show beat up on Floyd's entourage, and when Floyd tried to leave the ring. Really fun.

Edge/The Undertaker - **** 1/2 - This was a really good classic WWE style wrestling match. It reminded me a lot of The Undertaker/Steve Austin at SS98.

Jeritron 03-31-2008 01:15 PM

I'm not as demanding of a match to get the 5 star as, say, Meltzer. But I still wouldn't just call any amazing match 5 stars.

With that being said, I'm giving 5 stars to Flair vs Michaels and I'm going to give it to Edge vs Taker as well

Destor 03-31-2008 01:18 PM

Not going to go into too much detail:

JBL/Finlay *** decent brawl, nothing to write home about, but nothing wrong with it either.

MitB ***1/2 Some brutal spots and what could be a very big turning point in CM Punks career

Batista/Umaga *** There wasn't anything bad about this match, but nothing grand either.

kane/Chavo *- Well...come on

HBM/Flair ***** I think in some ways the 58 year old Flair outperformed HBM. I'm not saying HBM wasn't on fire, cuase he was, but wow. Flair is the man. Period.

Bunny Bit- * 1/2 the lights going out made it a little better

Triple threat **** Definitely above par and with Orton going over in true heel fashion, all the sweeter.

One man Big Show ** considering he got a two star match wrestling a human dummy it's pretty impressive.

Edge/Taker ****1/2 This really was a fantastic match. It had everything a big match needs. I loved it. It was just overshadowed.

Londoner 03-31-2008 01:45 PM

I agree with every single rating you gave jordan x

Jeritron 03-31-2008 01:58 PM

Except he didn't give HBM/Flair 5 stars. If that doesn't get 5 stars what does?

Destor 03-31-2008 02:01 PM

Seriously. If Flair/HBM isn't five stars what would you have to do?

Londoner 03-31-2008 02:09 PM

oh wait i thought he did give thta match 5 stars, ok everyone except that one. turns out he didnt give edge/taker 5 stars either.they were two 5 star matches imo.

Afterlife 03-31-2008 03:06 PM

Basics, I guess.

JBL/Finlay *** I rather enjoyed this -- much more than I'd expect to like a Layfield match. And the fact that Hornswoggle wasn't forced to play a total load or the direct cost of the match made it even better.

MitB ***** Much more impressive than last year's, and possibly the most inventive to date. Amazing plays by everyone involved -- mark this, because I'm even praising MVP -- and probably my Match of the Night. Also, five stars because of Morrison's balls.

Batista/Umaga ** Yoomanga was Yoomanga, Batista was Batista. Nothing notewarthy. Oh yeah -- except for the fucking FUBAR AT THE END. Note to wrestlers: if you can't do the finisher, don't do the fimisher.

Kane/Chavo ** Only gets two stars because as Kane awaited Chavo's notice, I called out "Chokslam and pin the fucker!" and the Big Red Machine obliged. :)

HBM/Flair *** The only reason Flair had to carry the match for 15 minutes was because HBK hurt himself. It demonstrated that Flair cannot wrestle and that he is well overdue for retirement. That being said, Flair had to carry a match, which is sad enough. But it was a match with Michaels. Boo, gentlemen. Boo.

Bunny Bit- * Thank God for good timing.

Triple threat *** Fucking weak.

One man Big Show *** So much better than I'd expected! I actually enjoyed the damn thing! Granted, I enjoyed it because SHow basically squahed the little twat, and the cunt puddle only won because "Pinfall, Submission or Knockout" means "Weapons are cool", but still -- I enjoyed it.

Edge/Taker ****1/2 Another match that told me where to stick it. I figured it'd be a slow, slug-it-out bore monger. But nay! T'was much more involved. I mean, we all knew Taker would win with his gogplata, but aside from that, I honestly didn't know what they were gonna do next. I was very happy with this match.

Jeritron 03-31-2008 03:16 PM

Are you serious? I mean, where do I begin. The triple threat was far from weak. MITB was prob the best of it's kind and really excellent, a solid 4 to 4 1/2 stars but it can't be a 5 star match seeing as it was little more than a cleverly worked spotfest with a lot of good workers.
And 3 stars for Flair/HBM?!? I'm just walking away from this argument

Destor 03-31-2008 03:18 PM

I don't think Afterlife and I saw the same event...

Londoner 03-31-2008 03:18 PM

I was gonna say the samething as what destor just said...

The Optimist 03-31-2008 03:18 PM

I think I officially need to see the Flair/Micheals match. I was in the "This is going to hugely overrated" camp and there are apparently conflicting views on how badass it was, however fickle those views are.

The Optimist 03-31-2008 03:22 PM

Or maybe Afterlife is just on a drug trip.

JBL/Finlay *** - A solid Match, great opener to the show.

MiTB **** - Another incredibly solid match, some great spots and as mentioned very inventive at times. Surprised to see Punk win it, I was sure the victory would go to Y2J.

Batista/Umaga ** 1/2 - Nothing too special, not good and not bad but after MiTB it couldn't help but look pretty weak.

Kane/Chavo - Nice to see Kane with a title I guess.

HBK/Flair ***** - They both gave it their all, a really good match. I wasn't really sure which was it was going to go at times but it was nice to see it end the way it did.

Divas - Fast Forward Button = Win

Triple Threat Match *** 1/2 - Very Surprised to see Orton get the victory here. I was expecting him to be thrown out of the ring and the rest of the match be contested between HHH and SuperCena and at one point it pretty much was. However with that said it was an enjoyable match.

Big Show/Mayweather *** - Definately better then expected, I was surprised to see no run ins during the match. Would have liked to have seen a spot where Show launches Mayweather into the crowd like a dart but can't really have everything.

Edge/Taker ***** - I knew Taker was going to win but that didn't stop me from drawing a sharp intake of breath on every near fall Edge had on him. During the match I literally forgot all about it being predetermined and just got into it fully, loads of near misses and great spots throughout. An incredibly solid match and an excellant ending to the show.

Jeritron 03-31-2008 03:30 PM

On second thought, that Kane vs Chavo match is a knock down drag out classic. They really brought the house down.

#1-norm-fan 03-31-2008 03:31 PM

JBL vs. Finlay - ***

MITB Ladder Match - ****

Batista vs. Umaga - **

Kane vs. Chavo Guerrero - *

Orton vs. Cena vs. HHH - **

Flair vs. Michaels - *****

Big Show vs. Mayweather - **

Edge vs. Undertaker - ****

Jeritron 03-31-2008 03:33 PM

You gotta love a night that has two 5 star matches, arguably. It definitely has one. I'll be buying this dvd.

Also, the MITB was probably the best worked spotfest ever. I call it a spotfest in the most loving way possible too, it was incredibly well worked and entertaining. Perfect for what it is and a credit to those guys, who are all amazing compettitors. But it's still a spotfest.
That's how you do it though. TNA, take note. That's how you do it, and you do it in the sake of entertainment and event once a year. Not every week on impact.

FakeLaser 03-31-2008 03:43 PM

JBL vs. Finlay
Meh. Pretty boring and boring finish. The 2 stars are basically for Hornswoggle.
**

Money In The Bank - Really cool spots. Not a good match really, just a spotfest, but it was a lot of fun.
***

Batista/Umaga
Trash flavored trash
1/2*

Kane/Chavo Guerrero
DUD

Shawn Michaels/Ric Flair
Amazing match. Both guys are obviously over the hill but it was amazing. Michaels looked like he was in agony for the whole match. They both put on a great fucking show and the match told a great story, which is what a wrestling match should do. Perfect ending too, my eyes were pretty watery. If you weren't emotionally moved by this match then you aren't a wrestling fan.
*****

BunnyMania
Snoop Dogg was amazing and throws a good clothesline. Who cares about women wrestling? They weren't too bad, I guess. Just have them do bra and panty matches and crap like that because that's all wrestling fans really want to see.
*1/2

Orton vs. Cena vs. HHH
I'm just really glad Cena didn't win. It was an okay enough match, I like how Orton pulled off the win Scoop Dogg style. Decent enough for a title match.
***1/2

Floyd Mayweather vs. Big Show
I don't think anyone really knew what to expect but it was entertaining. The crowd really got behind The Big Show. Mayweather is a natural heel and took a beating well. Show was able to look overpowering and Mayweather was able to win in a way where he looked good and Show didn't look like a bitch.
***

Edge vs. The Undertaker
Everyone knew Taker was winning. This shit started out so slow but it built up nicely and finished well. It didn't have that Wrestlemania Main Event feel to it, however. In retrospect, I would have put Flair/Michaels on last, but I guess that isn't really a Wrestlemania main event type of match either. I dunno. I guess you can't have a Rock/Austin, Hogan/Andre, Hart/Michaels every year. I thought the Triple threat would be the main.
****

Afterlife 03-31-2008 03:57 PM

That triple threat was the biggest disappointment of the night. The first ECW title defense in WWE history being a 5-second event is bad. That triple threat was astoundingly worse.

And don't forget: I fecking hate Ric Flair, so nothing involving him will hold any value in my eyes.

Londoner 03-31-2008 04:18 PM

Some people are just too critical/judgmental i guess.

thedamndest 03-31-2008 04:24 PM

The Chavo Guerrero squash calls to mind Mr. Bob Backlund. Backlund's is still quicker though and involves, you know, a title that matters.

CM Punk sucks...

That is all.

Because you let your personal bias, towards Cena Orton or HHH get in the way. You call a match shit that is clearly solid, probably just because you don't like them.

You also admit to not liking Ric Flair, and consider everything he does shit, which would make you overly judgemental and critical of a superb match that you don't like based soley on what you think of someone in it

I think you're retarded, but maybe I'm just being overly critical and judgemental as well

No, no, no; let me clarify: I hate Flair, because he can't and/or doesn't wrestle. The fact that people like him bothers me, because he's simply atrocious, and the fact that I don't understand it makes me resent him. Nothing he does is in anyway entertaining, so I can't justify calling it a great match. The best part about it, in fact, is that it's his last -- at least, so far.

Aside from Randy "Shitbag" Orton being a douche in real life, the only thing I dislike about him is what I dislike about Cena -- and even Triple H, to an extent: he's bland as hell. But the contenders of the match had nothing to do with why the match was disappointing.

I had assumed that said individuals would actually attempt to put on a match that would seem like a WrestleMania main event. THey, in fact, did the same old bland shit they always do. And, to be perfectly up front, the only thing that really stood out was when Trips re-created the "tap grab" from WrestleMania 20. Doing the same thing 4 years later doesn't do anything but point out the fact that you're not doing anything new.

To put it more concisely, I'm not let down because I think the guys in the match are bad. I was let down because they do have potential, and they didn't even try.

Jeritron 03-31-2008 04:50 PM

I just see a lot of bright purple garbage

Afterlife 03-31-2008 04:52 PM

LOL, That's o.k. Besides, we all rate everything with our own standards. I don't hold mine higher than anyone else's; they just coincide with my perceptions.

Xero 03-31-2008 04:58 PM

24 Man Battle Royal - *1/2 - Jobbermania was runnin' wild!

JBL vs Finlay - *** - Decent brawl, was pretty much what was expected.

Money in the Bank - **** - Great match with a lot of innovative spots. Hardy returning and taking out MVP was done perfectly. Was a great spotfest. In the top five ladder matches of all time no doubt. Punk winning surprised me.

Batista vs. Umaga - **1/2 - Just your run of the mill big man match.

Chavo vs. Kane - *1/2 - Only for Kane winning. Was pretty sad when you think about it and makes you wonder what, if anything, Chavo did to deserve that.

Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels - ***** - I'll admit I went into this expecting a pretty meh match. And the match wasn't perfect. It was slower than the match would have/should have been if Flair were ten years younger, it was a bit sloppy of Flair's part and there were a few botched spots, but it really didn't make a difference. This was Flair's best match in the last ten years at least and he was in top form. It had a lot of great spots on both of their parts, and was actually quite suspenseful. The ending plus the emotion of the match as a whole bumped this up to a five, otherwise this would have gotten a ****1/2.

Bunnymania - ** - I'll be honest, I didn't really watch the match. Two stars for the blackout. Otherwise n/a. Also, while it's good the team with the decent wrestler won, it made no sense to me since it was really just to push Maria's playboy. Her team should have won logically.

Triple Threat Match - ***3/4 - Good match with a great innovative finish (in terms of today's normal finishes).

Big Show vs. Mayweather - *** - It actually surprised me how well Mayweather sold everything. He did a really great job and the match turned out to be more entertaining than I expected. Shitty ending, but it was pretty much expected. Overall, Mayweather worked out well and it wasn't anywhere as bad as his "I'M GONNA BREAK YOUR JAW!" promos.

Undertaker vs. Edge - **** - Good match. Throughout the match I kept thinking that IF Taker were to hit all three of his finishers with Edge kicking out that Edge was going over. There were times when I did think it was over and Edge was going to take it. Honestly, the only really bad thing about the match was a slightly sloppy finish, but it was a great Taker match and I would have honestly believed Edge ending the streak right then and there.

WrestleMania 24 Overall - **** - Aside from the shit thrown in, I thought this was a solid Mania and the good things about the event outweighed the shit.

Fair enough. I just couldn't believe what I was reading. It was made more abrasive by the sharp purple scorching my retinas

IC Champion 03-31-2008 05:04 PM

I'd like to go on record and say that Mayweather is a better worker than Cena, and possibly Orton.

Afterlife 03-31-2008 05:07 PM

lol, Hey, I can admit when I'm wrong. But the purple stays. :D

#1-norm-fan 03-31-2008 05:10 PM

Just want to say though, while the Show-Mayweather match itself was alright, I HATED how the end was booked. I thought it made Big Show look weak. he lost a hardcore match (A match that he excelled in in ECW before leaving)... to a 150 pound boxer. And on top of that, he did it as the face. Pathetic.

You realize Mayweather is pound for pound the greatest fighter on Earth? He had his posse at ring side, and it took 5 chair shots, and a right hand with knucks to bring the Big Show down, but yeah, you're right Big Show got buried and lost as creditbility as a 7 footer.

Mayweather was brought in, and paid big bucks, not to mention has a real fighting career. I don't see how you could see Show doing anything but jobbing.

So? Show was booked as the best fighter in WWE not long ago. In the scripted world of WWE, Show was booked to have been better than Mayweather, or anyone else for that matter. Mayweather wrestled a scripted match against Show and in the end, he destroyed Show, knocking him out cold. Said to me that a boxer could come in and beat anyone in a hardcore match.

Jordan 03-31-2008 05:39 PM

BTW It must have sucked for a lot of people there, but the outdoor thing was kick ass on TV. True it would have been a hotter crowd if it were indoors but it came off really well none the less.

Jordan 03-31-2008 05:40 PM

The Show/Mayweather argument is silly. There is no way Show was going to win, he lost against Akebono do you think he wasn't going to job to Floyd Mayweather?

He lost to Akebono is a Sumo match. Obviously not gonna make Akebono look weak against a wrestler in his own element.

This was Show's element though. That's the difference. Show losing to Mayweather in a Hardcore wrestling match is the equivelent to me of Show having beaten Akebono in a sumo match.
