Any folk fans here?
I know "folk" is a kind of broad genre with a lot of sub-genres, so my "folk" listening tendencies are probably different than a lot of y'all, but I digs me some Melissa Ferrick, Dar Williams, Catie Curtis, Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer, Tegan and sara (Pre-shitty punk days), and so on.
I know people tend more towards "punk" and "metal" and all, but if there are country fans on here, surely there must be a folk fan or two. |
Neutral Milk Hotel. Check out "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea". Amazing stuff
|
I'll check them out once I'm doiner listening to the shitload of new music I gots.
|
I'm a huuuuge dylan fan, most of his early music is based out of english folk. I highly recommend his music, but i'm sure you all know his music enough to have your own opions already i guess
|
I didn't mention Dylan, because he tends to transcend genres. He's liked by so many.
|
I'm going to see Dylan on May 21

Aside from Irish folk, I like a bit of Bonnie Prince Billy, Nick Drake, Smog/Bill Callahan, Devendra Banhart and Vetiver. Few others probably. Ray Lamontagne might stretch to a folky sound I suppose. Haven't really got into old American folk like Pete Seeger and Woodie Guthrie properly yet, but I love the Wilco and Billy Bragg Mermaid Avenue Volumes (their takes on unrecorded Woodie Guthrie songs).

Jets To Brazil- Orange Rhyming Dictionary, is one of my favorite albums right now and i think it could be considered Folk. Love the song Sae Anemone ( probably my favorite song right this moment. ).

Well Old Dan Tucker was a fine old man, washed his face in a frying pan...
|
yea, for folk music, you basically need hard-hitting euro-dance music.... nothing else does the job really. Search around on iTunes for "euro club hits" or check this link:

Didn't I hook you up with some folk albums before?
Anyways, I'm listening to fairport Conventions' "Liege and Lief" album at the mo, for the first time, and it's pretty tasty. |
May have.

You can stream their two albums on their website. You might already know of them, seen as they are from Massachusettes. I'm contemplating on going to see them whilst i'm staying in Boston, in July, at Club Passim in Cambridge. |
