Do we know when the draft is gonna be?

Belongs in Q+A, but meh

Kane Knight 05-01-2008 03:46 PM

Not yet.

KingofOldSchool 05-01-2008 03:49 PM

The next 3-hour Raw is June 23, so it might be then.

Xero 05-01-2008 03:54 PM

Never.

DarKCentaur 05-01-2008 05:19 PM

Yeah, wasn't last years draft sometime in June?

Stickman 05-01-2008 05:29 PM

Do we care? Nothing ever changes as Raw is A show, Smackdown still sucks, and ECW is a joke no matter who is on what brand.

Porcupine 05-01-2008 05:46 PM

Yeah they'll prolly raid Smackdown and trade off MVP and Matt Hardy for Super Crazy and Jim Duggan.

Team Sheep 05-01-2008 05:48 PM

Smackdown better not get ass raped this time. Last year was a joke.

Tommy Gunn 05-01-2008 07:30 PM

Smackdown's title picture has been Batista, Undertaker, or Edge since King Booker dropped the belt at SS06. That's how desperate Smackdown is for another main event player.

Kane Knight 05-01-2008 07:35 PM

Instead, they will be farmed out, and it'll still be a three man main event.

Besides, WWE is high on Taker, Bats, and Edge. They aren't desperate; they don't see it as a problem.

Team Sheep 05-02-2008 07:03 PM

I think it's been fine as of late. Just at the time, it was terrible. They resorted to Khali as there was just nobody else with an ounce of credibility to carry it. Khali was a quick fix as he could easily be built as an unstoppable monster, but you could tell it wasn't planned.

Afterlife 05-02-2008 07:19 PM

How about we stop asking for a draft that doesn't matter? Seeing as how being "on a brand" doesn't mean anything, who gives a shit what color thier guy's badge is? People are constantly going on whatever show they want, so why not just forget the damn draft and solidify the definition of "brand" before "shaking things up". That way, someone might actually notice the change.

Kane Knight 05-02-2008 07:47 PM

Not to mention people have been switching shows arbitrarily. It doesn't happen often, but between people showing up on all three brands and the occasional switch for no reason, what purpose does the draft serve anymore?

Excellent point.

-RAW is doomed to be a show where the glass ceiling is all but fixed.

-Smackdown is doomed to be a show that will always be a "work in progress" (since the top up-and-comers are almost always shipped to RAW)

-ECW is doomed to be a show that almost no one cares about.

Kane Knight 05-02-2008 08:10 PM

Someone cares about ECW?

Heyman 05-03-2008 12:27 AM

If there's a draft, I'm guessing that the following superstars will go to RAW:

-MVP
-Dave Batista
-Undertaker

The following wrestlers will go to Smackdown:

-Chris Jericho
-Umaga
-Carlitto

The following wrestlers will go to ECW
-Anyone that the WWE doesn't give a f'uck about.

That's exactly my point. That's why I said last year that they should let things settle for about 5 years and THEN do a draft when it would actually MEAN something.

The Adamle stuff has me caring for it a bit...besides that, though...I didn't even know Kane was the ECW Champ.

Indifferent Clox 05-05-2008 06:12 PM

I think ecw has some of the best matches.

Afterlife 05-06-2008 12:49 AM

Because it does.

dablackguy 05-06-2008 03:45 AM

People do switch brands arbitrarily at times. But the whole shakeup point is irrelevant at this point in time. What's more my point (and it would be relevant if WWE practiced long term booking) would be long drawn out feuds. Whereas we had HBK and Batista just feud for one ppv on each others shows; we could have that as a more drawn out, fleshed out feud if both guys are on the same shows.

Again, WWE doesn't do long term booking, so its a moot point.

Though with both guys on the same show, they do tend to emphasize the history between the two more it seems

Afterlife 05-06-2008 07:19 AM

HBK/Batista was just a filler program.

And if you honestly believe that WWE doesn't do long term feuds, you're a nut.

XL 05-07-2008 04:18 PM

I think HBK/Batista was one of the better built matches in a long time.

Tommy Gunn 05-07-2008 04:28 PM

Cena vs. Raw for the WWE Title was one long fuckin' feud, 13 months wasn't it?

Xero 05-07-2008 07:14 PM

Just because it was built longer doesn't mean it was booked well.

And boy, was it not booked well.

Fox 05-07-2008 11:43 PM

Until they treat Smackdown and ECW as equals or close to equals to RAW, the draft doesn't mean anything but LIVE, aired, promoted demotions and promotions within the WWE roster.

No more, no less. Like in the current realm of things Triple H or John Cena or Shawn Michaels or Randy Orton are going to move to Smackdown. Yeah right. Even if they do move up someone like Edge or Undertaker and we get some "fresh" programs, it still only hurts the Smackdown and ECW brands and damages the product as a whole.

DarKCentaur 05-08-2008 12:27 AM

I said it last year, but I think the WWE Draft should be handled more like the draft in real sports. They should highlight prospects from FCW and the Indy scene, and "draft" the developmental guys that are ready to move up. I'd be a lot more interested in something like that, rather than randomly shuffling the rosters, which they already do anyway.

Agreed, it was one of the headlines of backlash.

It was also an example of how WWE can pull off something good when they're not particularly trying. That was the first time I gave a shit about Batista in a long time.

And if they stopped trying to force things, maybe this shit would happen naturally more often.

Theo Dious 05-08-2008 09:48 AM

Just like taking a crap.

With the current main event, a pretty good analogy.

Kane Knight 05-08-2008 11:13 AM

Speaking of which, you notice how the sloppiest shit always floats to the top?

Tommy Gunn 05-08-2008 12:06 PM

And how the guys who are gold on the mic never usually make it past upper-mid card.
