Lots of mad hot albums this year

I was thinking about this earlier and there has been quite an influx of hot albums here in 2008. I have posted a few threads about some of them but here is a brief synopsis of stuff I think you should check out if you haven't.

The Kills - Midnight Boom
This is probably my favorite album of the year, so far. So fucking good. I've said it's Yeah Yeah Yeahs meets Sonic Youth meets White Stripes. I want to plow the singer with my dick right now too.

Tokyo Police Club - Elephant Shell
Finally an LP release by Tokyo Police Club. The songs are still really short, but they're not as "punchy" I guess could be the word as their older stuff. Modest Mouse meets Saves The Day (Stay What You Are-era)... the singer now reminds me of the guy from The Decemberists.

Atmosphere - When Life Gives You Lemons, Paint That Shit Gold
ABT made a thread about this album. It's really good. A lot different than Atmosphere's other stuff. There's more of a rock influence.

Titus Andronicus - The Airing of Grivences
Atmospheric punk rock here. Fans of Interpol should enjoy this.

Jonny Greenwood - There Will Be Blood OST
Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead's score for the film of the same name. Obviously gonna be good.

Los Campesinos - Hold On Now, Youngster
For fans of Broken Social Scene and The Arcade Fire.

Del Tha Funkee Homosapien - Eleventh Hour
RoXer posted a thread about it. More of the same awesomeness from Del.

Death Cab For Cutie - Narrow Stairs
I haven't listened to this yet but I'm sure it is worthy of mention.

Weezer - The Red Album
See above.

Also, Glassjaw is FINALLY releasing a new album late in the year.

Feel free to add your own suggestions and shit you have enjoyed.

Gonzo 05-03-2008 03:58 PM

Maybe Only Built For Cuban Linx II will come out this year. I hope.

Inadequacy 05-03-2008 04:54 PM

Murder by Death released "Red of Tooth and Claw" recently, and aside from Adam Turla trying too hard to sound like Johnny Cash, it's pretty awesome.

Kane Knight 05-03-2008 05:43 PM

Danny Electric 05-03-2008 07:53 PM

When I saw Glassjaw last year, they played a couple of potential new tracks, sounded promising.

Yeah, same here, they had incredible titles like "Natural Born Farmer," "Jesus Glue," and my favorite, "You Think You're John Fucking Lennon"

Danny Electric 05-03-2008 08:17 PM

That's the one, I remeber because the title reminded me of an Eighteen Visisons song.

Indifferent Clox 05-03-2008 10:17 PM

portishead the third is amazing. Vampire weekend is amazing.

conor oberst new solo album will be amazing. New ghostface is the shit.

A lot of great albums. Lots and lots. I will list my top 15 soon.

FakeLaser 05-03-2008 10:39 PM

Yeah, Third is good. So is Ghostface's album.

Wasn't Vampire Weekend a 2007 release? Regardless, it's a good album.

O.G Loc 05-03-2008 11:39 PM

Well...Metallica's new album should be interesting..

Blitz 05-04-2008 03:54 AM

Cannot get into Tokyo Police Club, tbh. Makes me wanna punch things.

Who gives a fuck about an Oxford Comma, regardless.

El Fangel 05-04-2008 03:57 AM

Metallicas new album.

June 3rd - Disturbed - Indestructable

Indifferent Clox 05-04-2008 04:30 AM

June 3rd is my birthday.

So Distrubed is gonna get me a present, one I probably won't like.

Fabien Barthez 05-04-2008 07:17 AM

Kane Knight 05-04-2008 12:38 PM

Yeah, how silly of me to expect shit out of the guys who brought you St Anger...

FakeLaser 05-04-2008 12:39 PM

Metallica hasn't released anything noteworthy in almost 2 decades, give it up.

FakeLaser 05-04-2008 12:42 PM

dling Murder By Death right now. I liked some of their old stuff so we'll see.

I quite liked St Anger. And you just can't judge music until you hear it.

Just John 05-04-2008 05:57 PM

Yeah 2008 not looking too bad. New Scar Symmetry is what I'm most pumped about.

Indifferent Clox 05-04-2008 06:24 PM

murder by death is the shit.

You are the clear minority and apparently like shitty music.

And saying "you can't just judge music until you hear it" is some really inane shit.

I mean, in the first place, I never said I guaranteed it would be shit. I said I expected it to suck, and even the original post I "edited" said "should be." These are predictions. The only "judging" I am doing is of their past music and extrapolating the future. It just seems like a cop out to say "You can't judge music until you hear it" and try and pretend it's actually relevant.

Fabien Barthez 05-04-2008 09:52 PM

well, its a true statement, maybe displaced on this occasion but still, its not actually an insane statement.

I wanted to say, don't be so pesimistic in your expectations. times change and so do bands. Oasis made 2 pretty poor records, and bounced back with a scorcher. Although Metallica are a bunch of diluded, self-obsessed metal fags.

Fair enough, this ones yours. You are just so 'glass half empty'.

mitchables 05-04-2008 10:51 PM

Get Foals' album "Antidotes". Such a good debut album. Seriously Frazor (and Trips and anyone else who I think might like this), do it.

Indifferent Clox 05-05-2008 01:44 AM

I love foals

FakeLaser 05-05-2008 04:10 AM

Gonna czech it out later for sure

No, inane. And it is an inane statement. You basically made a completely unrelated statement and chastised me for it. It's dishonest, and the connection is inane.

Ahh, yes. Because you can name an exception or two, I should what? Embrace the longshot? Yeah, that's not a ridiculous mentality.

No, I'm not. That's just an attempt to save some face for making ridiculous claims and lying about what I said.

Fabien Barthez 05-05-2008 11:04 AM

Its relevances is self admittedly not valid. But as a 'statement' it's not insane.

Here's a statement...

I have 2 hands.

Just because it isn't relevant, doesn't mean it isn't true. I accepted my mistake, but you carried on using it as attack, for no real reason.

Secondly, my point stands. I don't give a fuck about longshots and majorities and likelyhoods when it comes to music. You judge a record on it's individual merit. I never have positive or negative expectations when it comes to listening to a new album, I just want to listen to it. Ill do the judging afterwards.

To say that any Metallica record is 'shit' is insane. They are all massively talented musicians. Nothing they have made is shit. Might not be to your taste. Hell, 80% of it isn't to mine. Doesn't make it shit though. I've worked in studios, and toured shit holes for the last 5 years. I have heard shit bands. Metallica do not fall under that catagory at any time.

So, in saying you expect their next record to be shit, is just being pesimistic and absurd.

I'm not trying to save face. I mean, from whom am I saving face from? I already accepted the misplacement of that statement, and tried to justify what I really meant. That is as much as one can do, surely.
