Festival season is HERE!!!

Cider, Narcotics and Live music. There really is nothing better than a music festival. I generally don't go on summerry, generic beachy holidays any more, because festivals just kick their arse.

Me and my friends tend to get in 2 a year. One during the June run, and one during the August run. Last year, we went to Isle of Wight in June, to see the Stones. To be fair, the rest of the bands weren't that great, but it was all good. More time to get leathered in the sunshine and meet some random campers.

And V (Stafford) In August. Basement Jaxx, Iggy Pop, Ocean Colour Scene, Foo Fighters, MCFLY!! (a LOT of pills. :nono:) To name but a few. Was a cracking weekend. The most messed up I've been thus far, in my 23 years.

So. This year... Glastonbury is the June choice. Getting a bad rap this year for its line up. Not to mention that tickets haven't sold out straight away for the first time in donkey's years. It just goes to further prove how stupid people truely are. JayZ is headlining. So what? There are 14 stages at Glastonbury! Just picking out a few of the bigger names Ill endeavour to see of the weekend...

The Raconteurs
Seasick Steve
The Verve
Leonard Cohen
Neil Diamond
John Mayer
Gilbert O'Sullivan
Massive Attack
Hot Chip
Elbow
Groove Armada
Mark Ronson
Buddy Guy
Joan Armatrading
King Solomon Burke
Eddy Grant
Dub Colossus
Lightspeed Champion
The Kills
Joan Baez
Kool Keith & Kutmaster Kurt
Fatboy Slim

I mean. Fuck Jay Z to be fair. There is no way i'm not going to have a good time, even if there wasn't another 150 bands on as well as that.

Then, August is looking like V again. Maybe Creamfields, as its 2 days this year to celebrate 20 years of it or something. But with V, The headliners are....Muse and The Verve, I think. But on the smaller stages, on alternate days are The Chemical Brothers, and The Prodigy. So best of both worlds.

I don't do Reading/Leeds. It's like a huge school disco. I need a more adult environment to enjoy myself I've learnt.

This does however, leave the problem of seeing Rage Against The Machine. They were obviously going to play reading/Leeds. So, alternative solutions needed arraging. Initially we were going to go on a road trip to Rock Am Ring in Germany, in 6 weeks. But, it sold out. Thus making the trip quite pricey.

A solution has been found! They are playing a 1 day festival in Paris Called Rock en Seine in the middle of August. Cheap tickets, easier travel. The best option, overall.

Wow, Wrote quite a bit there!

So, Where are any of you going? Tell me who's on, and who you are looking forward to.

And any good festival stories you might have.

I have some, but not the time to write them at this moment. Later, though.

road doggy dogg 05-07-2008 01:37 AM

I don't care how good the music is, saying that you're going to a festival sounds mighty gay.
crossrine

Kris P Lettus 05-07-2008 02:43 AM

Gonna see Three 6 (again) at a smaller festival here..

Blitz 05-07-2008 03:51 AM

For sure. It's just totally dance, apart from Ian Brown and Kasabian. My mates really would rather hear a few more guitars over the weekend, so its majority rules.

And if you think that sounds good, check out the line up for Gatecrasher Summer Sound System.

Blitz, who did you see at Coachella?

Gertner 05-07-2008 09:10 AM

yeah, i've always wanted to go see a dance music festival in europe. not much of that over here aside from the Winter Music Conference in Miami.

Tornado 05-07-2008 10:44 AM

Go to V, see Muse.

You'll thank me later.

Tons. Best shows were Flogging Molly, The Swell Season, Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip, Simian Mobile Disco, Gogol Bordello, Sons And Daughters, Midnight Juggernauts.....really great time.

El Capitano Gatisto 05-07-2008 01:46 PM

I haven't got the money this year and the line-ups don't really stand out for the big ones, but if I was going to go to a festival it would be the Greenman somewhere in Wales or whatever.

The Chemical Brothers are in the tent at the same time. I would rather enjoy myself...

Tornado 05-08-2008 06:18 PM

I may just be biased as I am a huge Muse fanboy, but they are pretty renowned as being the best live act in the United Kingdom. I've seen them 9 times, and each is as awesome as the last.

Fabien Barthez 05-08-2008 07:38 PM

I have no bad things to say about them. There are just hundreds of other people I would rather watch.

Gertner 05-09-2008 10:27 AM

headed to the Detroit Eletronic Music Festival (may 24-26) in a couple weeks. Benny Benassi, James Zabiela, Richie Hawtin, Bad Boy Bill and Dubfire from Deep Dish are headlining. The Detroit area is more into Progressive House than Trance which is kinda disappointng, but ah well, it's always a good time

Fabien Barthez 05-09-2008 03:09 PM

House > Trance anywayzzzzz...

Got a thing for Hacienda era Acid House, and any other funky or big beat house from the late 80's - 90's. 808 State, Graeme Park, Chemicals, Early Prodigy, Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling, Mr Scruff.

Love it!

Gertner 05-10-2008 01:24 PM

Rampling is the goods.

and Trance> house, which i know makes me look like a nOOb

Gertner 05-10-2008 01:26 PM

saw deadmau5 last night. fucking AMAZING show. going to see Bad Boy Bill tonight who never disappoints

Fabien Barthez 05-10-2008 07:45 PM

Yeah, BBB is the shit if you want Chi House. :y:

Fabien Barthez 05-10-2008 07:46 PM

Kris P Lettus 05-10-2008 07:56 PM

Fabien Barthez 05-11-2008 01:28 PM

going to go see Paul Van Dyk, Felix da Housecat, Eddie Halliwell , Erik Moriello May 25th and Steve Lawler and Deep Dish June 30th. Not a huge Deep Dish fan, but Lawler always brings it.
PVD hardly ever comes to Canada so I'm pretty jacked for that show
