Better Wrestler #22
Dean Malenko won big again with his second consecutive victory over famed cruiserweight Billy Kidman. But in order to keep his title he will have to overcome a new challenger...

Ultimo. And not because Funky put a gun to my head...
...Amazed Destor didn't do this. Clearly, he hasn't left TPWW. |
Curb your amazement, he asked me to do so today
That's a tough question. Both guys are EXTREAMLY talented. Both are technical masters and both are among the very best of their chosen styles. Both are lacking in the charisma department. Ultimo is a Legend in Japan where Dean is only a legend in the mind of smarks, and that is probably the only edge either one of them can claim. But even though Ultimo has reached legendary status I think Dean is the better worker. Ultimo is one hell of a hard worker, but I feel (and this total opinion,) that Dean out classes everyone in this department save maybe 5 guys, and Ultimo doesn't make that cut. It's a really close choice, but I have to put Dean over. And yes, I am aware that most of it is because I'm a mark.
Yeah, while staying with people who have the net has let me be on here longer than my initial bleak reaction made me think, I will lose this perk before too much longer, so the new guys might as well get in the rythm.
I voted Ultimo, but I keep changing my mind
I voted Dean, mostly because I am a racist.
Nah, for real though I have just seen a lot more of Dean than I have Ultimo. That's my own shortcoming as a fan, but unfortunately it is Ultimo who is the victim here.
I honestly don't know who to vote for here. I've like re-written this reply a few times now giving reasons for voting for either of them.
In the end I think I'll settle on Dean and not give any reasons. |
Stinko Malenko. Mainly because I also have not really seen any of Ultimo Dragon, aside from a few WCW matches.
The Dragon
BECAUSE HE IS ULTIMO |
Ultimo, just because I've seen a lot more of him.
5-5 now, could be very close. |
Really close one, but I gotta go with Dragon.
My vote goes to Dean Malenko. There are not a lot of guys who I would vote for against Malenko since the guy, ring-wise, is one of my favorites of all time.
I am not as familiar with Ultimo as I am with Dean because I haven't seen as much of Ultimo's work and although I liked what I saw, Dean still has a stronger grip on my fanship so to speak, so I'm giving the vote to Dean. Really close though, Ultimo is great, but he's not enough in my mind to beat Malenko. |
I'm pleasantly surprised to see this so close.
This could be tight.
It has to be Dean. Just always loved when he was in a wrestling match, even if he could not speak on the mic.
I prefer solid mat wrestling to anything. Like old school English, 2 out of 3 falls wrestling. Dean really is the daddy at that.
Smelenko, again. |
Wow. It went from 50-50 to nearly 2-1. Holy shit.
I still stand behind Ultimo. |
11-6-1...well it's still early.

I love both, but I mark harder for Dean.

Tough decision but I'm going with my gut, Dragon.
I said Dean, because I find him more intimidating than Dragon. It's the only overly clear factor between them, from my standpoint.
Fan of both men. Enjoyed watching both very much. But I still marked a lil more for Dean. Just has a pull on me. Dest pretty much summed it all up in his first post here. Vote goes to Dean.
Going for malenko again, never really been a fan of ultimo.
Ultimo hands down. All talent aside, he also gets major props from me for training people like CIMA, Magnum Tokyo, SUWA, etc, and he's pretty much responsible for the entire Dragon System (Dragon Gate, El Dorado, etc.)
Again, they both suck. I should have voted Malenko just to spite Funky Fly.
Malenko.
Never really thought too much of Ultimo Dragon to be honest. Though I haven't seen too much of him, what I have seen didn't really seem to live up to the hype. |
Dean
Hey Diesel Mac, cool Triple H avatar. :D
I went with Malenko. Both guys are/were great in the ring, but I prefer Malenko's good WCW matches over Ultimo's good WCW matches.
Hard choice. Now I really want to see some sweet Ultimo Dragon WCW cruiserweight matches.
Dragon's bounced back again.
I guess he got the Weaboo vote. |
Malenko based on the fact that his WWE James Bond theme music still gets stuck in my head TO THIS DAY and he never slipped at Wrestlemania.

Awesome theme music, so simple and generic, but at the same time totally bad ass. Much like Malenko himself. |
