One thing that always pissed me off about the WWE
Is how quite a few of the wrestlers have a catchphrase at the start of their theme music.
Now it was ok with the Rock. It just suited him. But did Ric Flair really need woooooooooo at the start of his? Or Scott Steiner's "Holla if you hear me"? It's just not necessary. It is almost enough to spoil the entrance for me. Never mind the fact that it cheapened the catchphrase. Perhaps it's just me that finds this annoying. |
I think those things are just added to give the start of the theme a bit more "pop." 2001 is a really slow song, and Steiner's theme music was basically just sirens with some bass behind it.
I don't like how they seem to want to add lyrics and shit to perfectly good theme music. I also HATE Randy Orton's new theme song. |
I agree Fox, its pretty terrible.
One that did annoy me was Goldbergs, how it was more him walking to the gorilla position then anything. |
Not the WWE but... I hate how TNA tacked on "Sorry 'bout your damn luck" to the beginning of James Storm's theme. It wasn't like a "slow start" theme either, and is probably their best theme. But for some reason they tagged on his catchphrase onto the beginning of it. Oddly enough, they tagged it on even before he started to use it regularly.

I think they should add BOOP BOOP BOOP to Kofi's theme music.

I actually didn't mind "Holla if ya hear me!" at the start of Steiner's theme. Ric Flair didn't need "Wooo!" at the start of his, though. Ric Flair's "Wooo!" does not need to be advertised. It is a part of who he is.
I only started watching TNA after James Storm had "Sorry about your damn luck" in his entrance theme, but I don't mind it being there, as it adds something to the theme. Most of TNA's stuff is really, really generic. I generally think catchphrases should be left out of entrance themes, I agree. I don't think Shelton Benjamin needs "Ain't no stoppin' me now!" at the beginning of his, even though I believe the song and the catchphrase are pretty much one in the same. I wish Jamie Noble would go back to his old theme, and not use Kid Kash's. I marked out when The US Express used the original version of it on RAW recently. Another change I would make, is getting rid of the countdown in Christian Cage's theme. Or at least modify it to something a little more flashy. |
gregory helms had it too. he had a really good theme during his first heel run and then they added the "gregory helms" intro to it. then they went and ruined it by giving him a new theme entirely.
|
Yes! That is one that really pissed me off. Why the fuck would Gregory Helms say his own name to kick of his intro? It was stupid. And then he got that theme "It's Time!" Time for what? The WWE never explained why "It's Time!" suddenly became so important to the Gregory Helms character. I mean, he never used it as a catchphrase, and they even had "It's Time!" constantly appear in his titantron video.
It's like the WWE approved a new director for Helms' character, and they didn't carry through with it. Ah well, at least Helms didn't get stuck with an unexplained "hZ" on his ring attire, like a certain tag team now stuck on Heat did. |
I really don't like catchphrases to start off a theme. The only ones I can think of that actually worked were Rock, Hurricane and L.O.D.... That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

The Harlem Heat theme was great until they took out the opening and replaced it with "Can You Dig It, Sucka"

I think they've got rid of it now but a few years ago, Bob Holly's music was changed to incorporate him saying "How do you like me now?"
Twas ghey! |
That was fucking annoying, as it was about the same time "How do you like me now" - Toby Keith started playing on tyhe country stations my parents listened to.

Also Sprach Zarathustra doesn't need anything else. The entrance is epic and iconic.
Steiner just allows me to change the channel faster. |

I'm just glad they didn't replace Austin's glass shattering with "WHAT!?".
