WWE not letting Ric Flair attend his own NWA HOF induction

Quote:

Ric Flair will be inducted into the NWA Hall of Fame, but won't be present at the ceremony on 6/7 at the Phillips Arena in Atlanta, GA. WWE made the call. (source: Gerweck.net)
:-\:|:nono:

I'm not surprised, but it's still kind of shitty.

KingofKings 06-04-2008 07:03 PM

No it doesnt suprise me either! The WWE believes its the only important promotion. The thing is, if they let him attend how would it hurt the WWE in anyway. Again its just Vinces ego!

6to1 06-04-2008 07:30 PM

vince shows his ass again, an wants everyone to kiss it. ric belongs more in the nwa then he ever did in wwe crap.

SammyG 06-04-2008 07:33 PM

Come on now, Vince.

The Mackem 06-05-2008 09:11 AM

They probably don't want to recognise a HOF of another promotion.

Kane Knight 06-05-2008 11:01 AM

I thought WWE and NWA had moved back towards amiable terms? Did I misread, or did something change?

Loose Cannon 06-05-2008 11:11 AM

That's alright, cause the Naitch is coming to Charlotte!!!!

I still haven't booked my tickets yet, but this announcement might do it.

Xero 06-05-2008 11:20 AM

Don't worry, they'll pull him from there too.

Gerard 06-05-2008 11:24 AM

Just another example of how once you're tied into a wwe contract they think they own you.

Flairs retired from in-ring competition so whys it such a big deal that he goes to the nwa hall of fame ceremony? :wtf:

Loose Cannon 06-05-2008 11:46 AM

yea, Greg Price (who runs those) is usually great about not confirming or letting anything out until he has reached a deal. He's very professional. but if you go to the board, he says "It's gonna happen. It's been approved. I just need to get paperwork in hand."

So, we'll see. But even if it's signed, Flair could still potentially pull out.

FourFifty 06-05-2008 01:31 PM

Can someone let me know how WWE has this power over Ric Flair? Is he still under contract, did he sign a life time contract, or what? Since The Naich is out of the industry you'd think he would be able to go to his own hall of fame induction.

KingofOldSchool 06-05-2008 01:34 PM

He signed a long term contract with WWE, he is still doing promotional appearances for them.

Xero 06-05-2008 01:57 PM

Since he's under the contract, he can work anywhere that he gets approved with WWE, sort of like Lawler's deal.

I wonder if Tazz has that same deal but he just chooses not to use it...

GD 06-05-2008 02:17 PM

This is very gay.

They probably also have a licensing deal which would give them power (short term at least) even if he wasn't still under contract.

They're legally within their rights to do this. Doesn't make it any more correct, but....

They are

Wouldn't hurt Vince to let Flair do this but he can do what he wants. Flair needs the cash. He only has himself to blame really

Azriel 06-06-2008 07:21 AM

Why should Flair do what the WWE says? The man's retired. oh, what the WWE going to do? Fire him?

Figuring they're still paying him a hefty sum of money, yes, yes they can. And they can probably sue him for breach of contract.

The character's retired. Flair still works for them. Also, as WWKD said, BREACH OF CONTRACT.

NeanderCarl 06-06-2008 05:38 PM

That's ridiculous. That's like McDonald's suing a member of staff for eating a Burger King.

Two points:

1. Similar things have happened.

2. This isn't like that. It's like McDonald's suing one of their spokespeople for endorsing Burger King.

NeanderCarl 06-06-2008 07:11 PM

Okay the analogy was slightly off, but the ridiculousness remains, which was the main point.

Or the "Where's The Beef" lady finally finding the beef.

Down her pants.

IT's kinda dumb. I mean, it's not even really gonna give NWA a rub simply to have him there.

I think Paul E sums it up nicely.
