The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior

Earlier this year we heard that Russell Mulcahy will be directing a sequel (or prequel, actually) to “The Scorpion King”, the 2002 movie starring The Rock that was itself a prequel to Stephen Sommers’ “The Mummy” movies. According to Reuters, the film, to be called “The Scorpion King: Rise of the Akkadian”, will be going straight to DVD, and will land at Blockbluster shelves everywhere in 2008 under Universal’s Originals banner. In fact, principal photography on the direct-to-DVD sequel has already begun this month in Cape Town, and is set to star Michael Copon (the N’s “Beyond the Break”) as the young Mathayus (the original character played by The Rock in the original). More: “Akkadian” follows the events before “Scorpion,” the 2002 summer hit that starred Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Mathayus, the fearsome warrior king of an ancient desert empire. The new production tells the story of young Mathayus’ rise to become the Scorpion King. Michael Copon (the N’s “Beyond the Break”) stars as the young Mathayus. The film also features Simon Quarterman, Karen David, Ralf Moeller and Ultimate Fighting Championship king Randy Couture. |
A prequel to the prequel of a sequel? SOUNDS GOOD!
It will be interested to see this just because this was one of the key reasons Randy Couture left the UFC...and because he also plays the lead villain.
The Mummy series seems to be expanding into a big brand. Would have liked more Rock though.
Pretty awful sounding deal, here.
That sounds just awful.
Wasn't the Scorpion King video game called Rise of the Akkadian?
so the rock is not in it
Nope, unless he does a surprise cameo.
Kinda wanted a full flegged sequel as I enjoyed the first one. |
Fuck this, if the Rock's not in it i'm not watching
It is a straight to dvd movie, of course it is going to suck.

Yeah. But they've been talking about another Scorpion King since the first was made. This doesn't exactly sound promising, though. The first one was fun. I preferred the Mummy movies, but I was surprised at how solid an action movie it turned out to be. I expected them to make a shite Mummy knockoff to cash in on the popularity of the Rock. Of course, it was kinda a Rock vehicle, but.... |
The Rock rules. Even in Doom. Yes, Doom.
lol
That was on Amazon.com
LOL
Who's the fine bitch on the right?
And why does Couture look so much like Kurt Angle?
Nah he looks like he could be Lionel from Thundercats.
More like Panthro.

In the first Scorpian King they have The Rock play the king, and in this one they get a former Power Ranger, who's next a porn star?
