Metallica - Death Magnetic

So the title for the new Metallica album has finally been announced, "Death Magnetic," which quite frankly is a naff title, but less so than "St. Anger."
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...h_Magnetic.jpg

With the album set to be released in September, what are your thoughts/hopes/fears for the album?

Hopefully they will produce something decent for the first time in over 10 years, even with the master of bland, Rick Rubin. It can only get better after St Anger.

The Mask 06-15-2008 01:38 PM

dont care. havent done anything good in almost 20 years so i dont suppose this is going to break the trend.

The Destroyer 06-15-2008 01:50 PM

The horrible title isn't really filling me with confidence.

Russenmafia 06-15-2008 05:52 PM

My hopes are that we have a Metallica album that can be labelled a classic. Black album was ok but I regard And Justice For All the last amazing album Metallica made. Would like the songs to be a bit more harder and some ace guitar solos.

My fears are that we will have another bland album due to Metallica having their heads up their arse. The album will maybe have a few good songs but nothing more. The band have the ability to write amazing music (first four albums) but for some reason prefer this shitty style.

RP 06-15-2008 06:00 PM

I hope it gets leaked on the internet tommorow and Lars head pops off.

D Mac 06-15-2008 06:17 PM

Awesome

El Fangel 06-15-2008 06:59 PM

Christ, I read that as Megadeath at first glance. This better be the shit.

PorkSoda 06-16-2008 05:07 AM

Know whats ironic? Even if this album does suck, alot of people will still say Metallica is the shit because of how awesome they were back in the day.

I wouldnt judge a book by its cover or name, so this obviously could be a good album. If this sounds like their oldder stuff, then it would be swell. At least the name of the album isnt like "Rainbow Stripes" or something like that.

D Mac 06-16-2008 08:03 AM

Metallica will always be "the shit"

BigDaddyCool 06-18-2008 06:00 PM

Why can't they just be a touring band? They don't need to come out with more shitty albums.

Listening to the radio, they were talking about how the people who heard this are saying it sounds along the lines of Master of Puppets/and Justice for All..

That's good enough for me.

Kalyx triaD 06-18-2008 07:52 PM

I just like to hear new material. If anything, they'll have one or two songs that'll trump entire records of other bands. That's what I count on.

Guns N Roes will forever be greater than Metallica. One of the reasons being is that Axl has yet to release multiple cds that shit on their legacy. 1 cd 12 years in the making is better than 3 or 4 cds that make people go "Dear god, just fucking stop."

Rammsteinmad 06-19-2008 03:41 AM

Sounds okay to me. The problem with bands like Metallica is that everyone wants to hear Master of Puppets again. Get with it people. That was released 20 years ago. This is a band that has aged and matured. St. Anger how it's moments. So this one should have to.

This album will likely get bad reviews for two reasons. 1. Everyone expects MOP again. 2. Thus far I've read very good things about the songs on this album, therefore everyone will be expecting "old" Metallica and will instantly be let down.

Myself, I'm looking forward to a good heavy metal album. Regardless if it's Metallica 1988 or Metallica 2008.

I'm looking foward to it as well, and as long as they are over their St Anger phase it might be ok. I don't want Puppets again, we've had Puppets.

Let's be serious, St Anger didn't have any moments

I could not agree more sadly.

Dude, can you say you honestly never begged for mercy after Load, Reload, and St.Anger?

Also, the trash can lid thing is in the past. Lars is back to using a proper drum sound.

What Would Kevin Do? 06-19-2008 08:46 AM

I think the last Metallica album I didn't hate was Load. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. It doesn't help that Metallica hasn't aged well with me either though.

Hahaah true, Though i imagine there's a few more complicated reasons as to why the album hasn't been released yet.

And DM, i'm not mad at all, cause i know GnR will always be better. :y::yes:

Stickman 06-19-2008 01:26 PM

Not going to lie, I liked Load and Reload.

I only put them slightly lower the Metallica, they have 3 of my favorite songs.

Welcome to The Jungle
November Rain
and the most ridiculously awesome cover of Knockin on Heavens Door

Plus Slash

D Mac 06-20-2008 05:03 AM

NOT

Oh snap!

RoXer 06-20-2008 03:51 PM

Just go dl "The Ecstasy of Gold" if you want to hear what the new album will soun like. They released it about a year ago as a "teaser" to the album. It's from their S&M album but only the orchestra was playing on that track so during the recording of this album they recorded their version.
