Repairing Xbox 360 discs

My disc for NHL 08 has a couple of slight disconnected scratches near the outer perimiter of the disc, not the common ring near the inside. I bought the game used like a month ago off eBay. When I try to play a game, sometimes it gets to the loading screen just before the game starts and just freezes. Other times I am able to play a few games consecutively with no issues. Anyone have any idea if there is any way to repair the minor scratches?

Also the scratches are in the same direction as the spinning motion of the disc, so they may be from the laser or whatever.

PapaGeorgio 06-22-2008 04:31 PM

you know damn well you can google that shit you lazy mother fucker...

ps i'm gonna destroy you in chess

Mayo 06-22-2008 04:32 PM

I did google it and didn't really find much. I would have preferred to have input from anyone that has actually done it personally also.

You may be god, but you are not a chess god like me :P

I see stupid tutorials on youtube where they use toothpaste, I dont know if I want to risk that since the game still works sometimes :-\

Kane Knight 06-22-2008 05:06 PM

Toothpaste works due to the abrasive nature. If you're worried about that, throw on one of the millions of products designed specifically to fix CDs or DVDs.

Also, Lasers scratching Discs?

Disturbed316 06-22-2008 05:42 PM

If they can almost cut James Bond in half, then they damn well can scratch a disk!

Kane Knight 06-22-2008 05:50 PM

Yeah, there's a ton of Disc Cleaning products out there that would work. A friend of mine severely scratched his copy of GTA IV because the silly bastard turned the system on it's side while the game was playing...scratched the crap out of it apparently. He bought an $8 fix from Wal-Mart and says it works fine now.

Kane Knight 06-22-2008 06:23 PM

LOL yeah. The stupid white paste shit works nice.

Mayo 06-22-2008 06:37 PM

Finally tried toothpaste and doesnt seem like it made it any better or worse. Maybe I should try Colgate Total instead of just normal Colgate?

PapaGeorgio 06-22-2008 06:43 PM

You need toothpaste with whitening action, that is the key.

Kane Knight 06-22-2008 07:06 PM

I used to use Crest, because it was the one known for a whitening smile. That translates into the abrasives you need.

DO NOT USE DISC DOCTOR

It broked my games :(

El Fangel 06-23-2008 05:39 AM

Get it resurfaced, Blockbuster, $5, FTW?

Kane Knight 06-23-2008 09:23 AM

Our Blockbuster doesn't do that. Is it common?

PapaGeorgio 06-23-2008 11:12 AM

I know some Family Videos do it too. Try to catch a new guy there and say you just bought it and are having troubles playing it and hopefully they will hook you up.

That's pretty cool.

At the local Blockbuster, they don't even resurface their own discs. They mail them to another site, get them all done there, and mailed back or something like that. If they do them at all. A lot of the discs are scratched in the first place, and the most they'll do is use windex and a coarse paper towel to "fx" them.

Mayo 06-23-2008 07:25 PM

Hmm I will try going to the local Blockbuster or even EB Games and see if they can work their magics, thank youse for your ideas

PapaGeorgio 06-23-2008 11:02 PM

Make sure to brush your dvds twice a day. don't want no cavities.

I dont know man, our blockbuster does it, they have a machine, that sort of looks like a waffle press, only it has grooves for discs, and you put it in, and your disc comes out looking like new.

PapaGeorgio 06-24-2008 07:47 PM

The one at family video where I worked at (I got fired for not having a personality), but it looked like a PC Tower, was fucking gigantic. They said it was mad expensive and shit, wasn't worth it as didn't do that great of a job.

Bad Company 06-25-2008 04:56 AM

Toothpaste? Jeeze you guys are rough.

Just get some light cutting compound, or use a kit.

St. Jimmy 06-26-2008 03:40 AM

You buy a new one.

Funky Fly 06-26-2008 06:06 PM

Go to Walmart or Target or any half decent electronics store and spend the $5 - $20 you'll need to get a scratch remover product, you lazy/cheap bastard.

Three bucks for solution plus cloth, 3-5 minutes of rubbing.

That sounds so dirty.

Just to bring some closure to the situation, I finally went to my local Blockbuster and they fixed it with their machine for $5. It works beautifully now, thanks guys
