Are there any good/innovative gimmick matches yet to be invented?

Are there any great, non-confusing gimmick matches that can still be invented?

Now, I'm not talking about shit like Ladder-Cage matches, or Penalty Box Reverse Ladder Inverted Lumber Jack Matches, but simpler matches like a ladder match or a cage match.

I'd say the last really good match was the Ultimate X match. It was familiar (same concept as a ladder match) but different enough and decently executed where I'd call it a pretty good gimmick match.

Basically, this is a "non-retarded" gimmick match thread that could possibly be the next "War Games".

How about one where you have to win by submission, pinfall and KO?

El Fangel 06-22-2008 08:41 PM

Oh how about a match, where you have to get three falls, one each by pinfall, submission, and count out.

Honestly I think the next step is a MMA styled match....2 minute rounds and shit.

Thats exactly what they need.
Oh well, WWE is halfways there, and TNA is Three-Quarters.

Aside from the rounds, it's been done with the Lions' Den.

About nine years ago with wrestlers that aren't active any more.

Xero 06-22-2008 10:16 PM

My point is that it's been invented.

The Optimist 06-22-2008 10:22 PM

I know. That's true. It hasn't thrown around freely yet like Ladder matches/Cage matches/Pole matches, which WWE will do if they think of it.

I mean, there has been a match in a moving truck for christ sakes.....can they really come up with anything else?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

The Chris Benoit Match.

You take each wrestler's family, put them in cages, you have a weigh lifting bench on the entry ramp and...

Oh, nevermind.

Dorkchop 06-23-2008 04:22 PM

Stripper on a pole/ last man standing match :shifty:

As for a real gimmick match, that hasn't been invented yet, that will have the lasting power as a cage or ladder match... probably. TNA sure as well won't invent it. They have too many fucking rules and are confusing.

I'm still a fan of the concept of a Triple Threat (/Fatal Four Way/whatever) where a wrestler needs to get a fall over each of his opponents. Not sure if that has been done yet. It doesn't really use a contraption, though, so it might not be what you're after.

I was thinking the other day how awesome it would be to see some kind of World War III-like Battle Royal with teams. Again, not sure if it has been done. You could use the brands to divide the wrestlers: A RAW team, an ECW team and a SmackDown! team. Everybody in, with a layout that makes the match fair. The last surviving team wins.

It would be wrestling version of Slamball. I would watch.

For like 2 or 3 episodes anyway.
