I would say it's the WWE Championship.

WWE is the company that beat out and destroyed all of the smaller territories, so they're out. ECW died and WWE bought them. WCW died and WWE bought them as well. NWA is an old wrestling name, no longer associated with "the big time." TNA hasn't been around nearly long enough.

The list of superstars, past and present, who have held the WWF/WWE Championship is a long and prestigious one. More so than any other title in the U.S. today.

I think the WWE title is the obvious choice, but because of how damn ugly that belt is, I'm gonna go with the World Heavyweight Title, but that's only cuz I associate it with all the past NWA/WCW guys that have held it.

Juan 07-03-2008 04:18 PM

Except David Arquette.

The Franchise 07-03-2008 04:34 PM

Yeah, the WWE Championship. Mostly for the history behind it.

:y:, Its hard to view a blinged out belt that was once held by cena being the top prize in the industry.

When was the last time the WWE acknowledged the fact on television that the WWE Championship was a World Heavyweight Championship and not a company title.

Xero 07-03-2008 05:08 PM

Probably the last time the titles meant something.

St. Jimmy 07-03-2008 05:12 PM

WWE Championship. Not even a question.

Mooияakeя™ 07-03-2008 05:20 PM

Euro-Contintel champion means the most. Currently there is nobody über enough to hold this belt, hence no champion

GD 07-03-2008 05:22 PM

After few decades the Night of Champions will be renamed as the Night of Accessories. Where all the beautiful belts will be on the line. The #1 Contender for the respective title would finally get a chance to relish wearing fancy belts with their names on it.

Mercury Bullet 07-04-2008 01:21 AM

WWE Championship

Mayo 07-04-2008 01:36 AM

WWE title, but please get rid of the stupid spinner belt.

While you're at it, get rid of Cena too.

I think 1999.

St. Jimmy 07-04-2008 05:27 AM

Oddly enough, the best booked belt in awhile is the TNA Knockout's title.

Sadly this is true. Despite Raw being the "A Brand", Triple H will headline every PPV.

CM Punk may be World Champion on Raw, but do you honestly see them letting him headline PPV's?

Ruien 07-04-2008 12:17 PM

The title Matt Hardy has. That thing changed hand like 2 times in the past year and a half.

Looks like a stamp tramp. Actually not even that classy. Looks like one of those stickers that say "SEXY" or something a 12 year old would put on her folder.

Mr. Nerfect 07-04-2008 10:54 PM

The case for most prestigious can be named be claimed by three championships, in my opinion:

WWE Championship
World Heavyweight Championship
NWA World Heavyweight Championship

The strengths of the NWA Title are of course its history. It's the original World Championship, and from it pretty much spawned the WWE Championship, WCW Championship and ECW Championship as ungrateful children. So many legends have held the belt, but then, of course, you have the fall of the NWA and the question of just how prestigious that belt now is. The belt got off to a shaky start in TNA, with Ken Shamrock holding it. Nothing against the man, but he still feels like a WWE upper mid-carder to me. Ron Killings won the belt twice, as did AJ Styles, and even Christian Cage is a man who was in the WWE, never made it to the main event, and then won the NWA Title.

Adam Pearce is its current champion, and while I don't want to appear like one of those guys that bashes the indies for the hell of it, Pearce isn't exactly in Ric Flair's league at present. I think the best thing for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship right now, is for the NWA to ask ROH to defend it in some classic matches between the likes of Bryan Danielson, Chris Hero, Brent Albright, Claudio Castagnoli, etc.

The WWE Championship is the belt that has served in pretty much all those classic main event moments in WWE history. It was the belt Stone Cold Steve Austin won to really kick-in a new boom era. It's had its questionable choices of champion, but then again, what title hasn't?

I don't think the World Heavyweight Title can be counted out just because it has a young title history, though. The belt has been featured in the main event of WrestleMania. Any title that gets to headline WrestleMania (and is presented as a World Championship) gets instant prestige, in my opinion. Since the roster split, the World Heavyweight Championship has been featured in the main event of WrestleMania XX, WrestleMania 21 and WrestleMania XXIV. It is also currently featured on Monday Night RAW, the premier (whether we like it or not) program in professional wrestling today.

The belt has also been held by some of professional wrestling's best presented and most iconic talent: Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Goldberg, Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, Rey Mysterio, Booker T, The Undertaker and Edge. The shortest reign with the title is 28 days, unlike the WWE Championship, which has seen numerous reigns last less than a day, and in some ways, the World Heavyweight Championship is like a "second chance" for the WWE to create a main event title without nearly as many belts as a World Title held by Vince McMahon, or a World Title held by Vince Russo.

Granted, there have been some questionable World Champions *cough* Great Khali *cough*, but for the most part, the World Heavyweight Title feels pretty clean. Then there is the whole "WWE Championship currently looks like crap compared to the World Heavyweight Title" issue. And even though the titles do not share histories, the big gold belt itself carries quite a few great men not included in the World Heavyweight Champions list.

I'm not sure if I'd ultimately go with the WHC as the winner, but I think the belt is definitely at the stage where it just can't be swept under the rug, and its history forgotten (like, say, the WCW International Heavyweight Championship, or whatever it was called). I can't see it being unified with the WWE Championship, either, to be perfectly frank. I think that the World Championships are actually powerful enough to keep the roster split going, or at least to somehow survive in an environment post-draft.
